so, who's going to be at patriot center for muse and cold war kids? be prepared for a great light/fx show along with some show-off musicianship. can't wait! but should we expect matt bellamy on stage, or gwen stefani?!? (http://youtube.com/watch?v=_c_Ca506xPE)
i've been listening to a lot of muse this week and reading through the muse wiki (http://www.musewiki.org/MuseWiki) in order to be a better consumer than i was at lolla (knew a little, but obviously not enough).
FOR VANSMACK: from the wiki we learn: When asked, Bellamy once gave this advice on orgies: "It's very easy. Novelty items. It's so fucking easy. All you need is masks or hats. Soon as people put on silly hats, they loosen up a little bit. Then you need a couple of friends who are very close to each other. Then people start bundling to each other and it just goes from there. It's as simple as that. Just bundling, tickling and novelty items."
-
Someday, I hope to rock as hard as Muse does.
-
I'll be there very early to be right up front. I've seen, heard, and been told enough that Muse is incredible live to be there early enough to get right on the rail.
Anyone think shirts will be cheaper than White Stripes shirts? Paid 30 bucks for my camera shirt, and then at V Fest saw that shirt about 50tmies, all on different people.
-
I'll be there.

I'll be there :)

freakin out for the full set tonight
...and does anyone know if you can get on the floor if you have a concourse ticket?
-
i'm in since I can't get rid of my pair. Still tired from Lolla. I literally passed out during the opening credits of an episode of Big Love last night...

wah. suck it up and dance your ass off tonight.
are you on the floor or in the seats?
-
we're gonna be in the seats...I'm well rested now... :)
let's hope for a better show than Lolla...I'm sure it would be since it's a smaller venue :D

nope. you need show a GA ticket to get down the steps from the concourse to the floor. attendants at Patriot are pretty good/strict at enforcing this.

Does it count if I wanna be there?

well to be honest, Lolla saturday was lackluster for me until the Hold Steady, which started around 5 or so? Matt & Kim, I'm From Barcelona, Rodrigo Y Gabriela all put me in a bad mood. I really should have gone late. I did like the songs from Absolution, but songs from the last album didn't really sounded good to me. But see I don't expect to be blown away every time I see a favorite band... I'm not bnyced...j/k :D

Huh?
I only have a few FAVORITE bands, and they are so designated precisely because they do tend to blow away everytime whether I expect it or not. And for the record, Muse isnâ??t one of them, and neither are the Smashing Pumpkins for that matter which might be a stunner for some. My true favorite list is very lean, and doesnâ??t include anyone thatâ??s much short of double-digit albums with a few notable exceptions. They are in no particular orderâ?
Cure
Depeche Mode
Morrissey
Ani Difranco
Sonic Youth
Bjork
Mariah Carey
PJ Harvey
New Order
Prince
Slayer
Madonna
Thatâ??s the only list that I always expect a great gig, and canâ??t remember a time when they didnâ??t deliver. I listen to a ton of music, and go to many shows, but donâ??t confuse bands that I think are good live with my favorites or those that get a pass, just about everyone else has to win me over anew each time they play, some do and some donâ??t but you can only call me a homer for those listed above.

I'm there.

Yeh, I'm setting up shop in NY that weekend, Metric, Chemical Brothers/Ladytron, Cure, Bjork Fri-Mon
-
Great show. Subtlety is not exactly their strong suit. Very loud and very over the top. Bellamy is a terrific frontman.
I was also pleasantly surprised by the sound in the Patriot Center. From my vantage point it didn't sound like complete shit.
More thoughts later...

I've been a fan of Muse since 1999. Unfortunately, I've yet to see them live. I have to ask though, what was the set list? Did they play anything from their first two albums???

ok well dont be a stranger then. on that note, i guess youll be seeing chemical brothers/ladytron at mccarren pool? can anyone tell me which venue is better for chem bros? or which is preferable and why. not been to either, and both dates are good for me. any input would help. the pro for hammerstein for me is its really damn close to where i live.

I dont recall anything form Showbiz, but from Origin there was Plug In Baby, Feeling Good, and New Born.
I'll post some of my crappy pics later. I meat Miss P and Jean or whatever. Im lame.

Chems outdoors will be infinitely better, was going to settle for Hammerstein by default but this will be great, weather willing. McCarren is a great venue, and for a show like this, perfect, everyone can spread out vertically and get their groove on, where as Hammerstein with its levels and confined space won't work as well IMO.
You're not going to see Metric? Seems like the decision would be a no brainer then.
Oh and the Muse attendees that had such a great time, you suck :p

After I got Seats 1 and 2 in Section 101 for the presale I was wondering why they didn't release anything in sections closer to the stage. Of course upon arrival I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they were only using about 2/3 of the arena so my section was actually the closest to the stage with my seat being lined up with the front row of the floor (and being 7 rows up it was high enough to see over the speakers on the corner of the stage). So visually I was good to go and musically they were good, my only complaints were no "Assassin" and that the drum sound was pretty weak throughout, probably too much dependence on triggers and electronics. But at least I was able to see them in an air conditioned venue and take in all of their light and stage show instead of standing and sweating my ass off outside at a festival.
-
fantastic show. i had a blast... and like the aforementioned comment it was an 90 minutes of a band showing off... but at least they had something to show off. was quite pleased with the setlist as well.
enjoyed the cold war kids, but have to admit, they are much better in a smaller setting.
it was a bit odd being completely surrounded by 15-year-olds in muse shirts AT the muse show. apparently they never got that memo.
also, nice to meet you DeathFromAbove1979. apparently we had been standing next to each other during all of cold war kids and didn't realize it.

Actually the memo for the Patriot Center is that everyone under 18 HAS to wear the bands merch on the night of the show, oh, and be as annoying as hell. But it sounds like you kept the little buggers in check, leave it to Miss P to make even the kiddie suburban knuckleheads all wobbly in the knees. :D

Great show, solid performers, gotta love it.
Was sufficiently inspired (and slow at work) to check out the Muse wiki, and found a treasure trove of great live audio. Got their 2004 Glastonbury show on now, with one of the recent Wembley shows on deck. Love that.
Cold War Kids... eh.
-
Matthew Bellamy *might* be the most impressive musician I've ever seen live. The fact that somebody has that kind of command of voice, piano and guitar is pretty ridiculous.
Great show. I thought after awhile it sort of blended together a bit, but generally speaking, I thought they were fantastic.
I also completely disagree with whomever said the drum sound was weak. I thought in general the sound was great for that room.
-
Better show than Lolla for sure. I did enjoy it!
I took a friend and he said:
"It was a good show, but I couldn't understand a single word he says, except for the cover song [Feeling Good]"
-
I'm so jealous that they played Feeling Good! I've seen them 3 times and hadn't seen that yet. Looks like they've significantly upped the stage pyrotechnics since last I saw them at the Curiosa Festival.

great show. i enjoyed the lolla performance a tad more, i thought the bigger stage suited the set-up a little better but i'm really nit-picking. the three-part transparent video screen that they had (see above vids for short examples) was very impressive... see-through when off, almost opaque when on. visually this show was one of the best i've seen in a while, lighting and projections were top-notch. last tour i saw that was of this calliber was NIN, and this was better. sound was really good, for an arena.
CWK were kinda boring. what was the idea behind starting off their show with a funeral march?!? they just never seem to connect with the audience. sorta weird to be at a MUSE show and think that a band is too artsy :)

that's the half-arena set-up (not 2/3 :) ). floor was sold out but the concourse wasn't, top 6-8 rows were consistently empty throughout the venue... i'd say the show was somewhere north of 80% capacity. on the upside, this was the first time i've experienced *no* lines for beer or bathrooms, which was welcome! good thing they didn't go for a full-arena set-up - although it's kinda sad to realize that these guys can sell out wembley two nights in a row...
