Amy Winehouse finally checked into rehab. I wonder if she'll get better or come out trashier like the Hollywood starlets do.
Wino was hospitalized earlier this week after suffering a drug overdose, according to various reports, confirmed by a close family member.
Says Amy??s father-in-law, ??[My son Blake, Winehouse??s husband] He told me he was very worried about her. He admitted they both drank and did drugs but that came as no surprise. It was bought on by all her excesses. Yes, work is one of them, but there??s the drink and drugs too. She??s got to get a grip on herself before it??s too late.?
Wino is now recuperating at The Priory rehab in Roehampton, South West London.

i cant wait til we're all like, "remember that amy winehouse chick, whatever happened to that talentless bitch"

wino friends say she'll be dead within a year. (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/showbiz/showbiznews.html?in_article_id=474434&in_page_id=1773&ito=1490)

Don't know about the rest of you, but I'm feeling duped and feel a refund is order for her album. I was clearly mislead about her and Rehab...
<threadjack>
It's not the singer I hate, so much as the producer. Still not quite sure why Mark Ronson is so highly touted as a producer. Had the extreme misfortune of seeing the video for the "version" of a Smiths song from his solo album. Not only did it feature a fourth rate Andy Bell, the backing track was unbearable to listen to. My inner Elvis was close to taking action...
-
Hey, don't knock Nick Ronson. After all, he was the house dj for the TomKat wedding.
-
I actually like Mr. Ronson's version of "Stop Me If You've Heard This One Before" but it loses a certain amount of its appeal after you see the singer/video.
He seems overrated by the UK audience, but I'm not sure how well-known he is here.
-
I watch that video of the Smiths cover and just think its very 'british' . . . those earnest good looking folks in good looking places crying animated tears to a queered up Smiths song (the irony) seems to me to tap into the same vibe that results in massive clap-alongs at 'events' at Wembley (like the Diana thing) or folks turning up to Robbie Williams concerts by the 100,000's.
Amy Winehouse and Lindsey Lohan bother me b/c they seem like identity crises gone horribly wrong. They aren't who they're supposed to be.

What does that mean? "They aren't who they're supposed to be." You think there's some sensitive Regina Spektor-like chanteuse deep within Amy Winehouse that's being kept down by the MAN (in this case, Mr. Jack Daniels)? Lindsay Lohan would be the next Helen Hayes if it weren't for the blow (various definitions)?
I'm sorry. I don't mean to get all Ted Nugent on y'all but I don't feel much sympathy at all for those creative/celebrity types who lose it to drugs/drink/addictions. There are millions of people all over the world who are weak and addicted and they don't have one millionth of the support system and financial resources that someone like Lindsay Lohan does. It's excused that she does a lot of drugs because she has awful parents? Boo-f'ing-hoo. Let's ignore all the hopeless junkies in England but let's champion Pete Doherty because he has such sky-scraping talent? No way. Most of these people (Winehouse, Robert Downey, Jr., Britney Spears, etc.) are just weaker than the rest of us and have worse self-esteem. We shouldn't feel sorry for these people. We shouldn't even pity them. "Ignore" seems to be the correct word.

Most likely the people around them are not supporting them. Well, maybe their behavior and habit.

And I third the notion.
Celebs are fucking babies. You act like attention-starved whores and then complain when your picture is the in paper? Look, I don't want to be a cop because I don't want to get shot. If you don't want media attention, don't become a celebrity.*
*Please note: for the right amount of money, I would become a celebrity. I have no principles.

Its a lifestyle that suits certain people, and certain people's creativity. For example, it fit Slash like a glove. (But if, say, Lenny Kravitz were a 'trainwreck' it would look stupid). But, of course, Slash never got arrested b/c he knew what he was doing.
To paraphrase Super Troopers, some people's shananigans are cheeky and fun and some are evil and tragic.
Based on their work, Winehouse and Lohan both have (had?) a talent for what they do, and their current lifestyles seem to serve to erode that talent and not enhance it/serve it. I'm not talking about whether anyone should feel sorry for them, or how the media portrays them, but that they both seem to want to be something they're not - or rather something that doesn't suit them.
I'm not familiar with Helen Hayes' work, but Lohan is/was extremely likable on screen. Mean Girls had a satisfying ending b/c she did the right thing and rejected a similar 'scene' to what is now ruining her.
Maybe this is all that makes Winehouse interesting. Maybe if she cleans up she's Joss Stone. But I think if she could be a lot more interesting if she found some balance and just immersed herself w/ the creative people who respect her - like Prince or bull930.
Both should have gone to college.
That's way more thought on those two than I ever wanted to do. Gotta love the dog days of summer.

Sorry to break the news but after that report she checked in to a rehab center in the US. Now she's out but the damage may already be done. For the guy who wrote "who cares" I just want to say crackheads are entertaining. You can't deny it. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8mpalO8Mn8)
TROUBLED AMY WINEHOUSE sensationally walked out of rehab yesterday ?? then took a helicopter to London for a brain scan.
The heroin and cocaine-addicted singer quit after less than 48 hours ?? despite her worried parents?? pleas to stay.
She left a clinic in Essex and flew back to Camden, North London, where she overdosed on drink and drugs eight days ago.
Later she and hubby Blake Fielder-Civil visited a private doctors surgery in central London ?? before planning a night out with pals.
Her worried parents Mitch and Janis are now considering getting her SECTIONED to force her into getting help for her problems.
Doctors ordered Amy, 23, to have the brain scan after she had a seizure during her overdose. It will reveal whether the singer has a form of epilepsy ?? which could have been undetected until now.
A source said: ??The London clinic has specialists who deal with brain-related problems.?
Amy??s decision to leave rehab followed a huge rift between her husband and the rest of her family.
Dad Mitch and others close to Amy are desperate to get her away from him ?? because they believe he will stop her getting treatment.

newsflash: her shows haven't been that great recently. i walked away from her coachella performance, and didn't bother showing up early enough to catch her at lolla. mind you, i'm not a huge fan of her music either.
in other related news - is she taking time to heal, or to get her party on full-time for the next month?
Ailing Winehouse cancels month of shows
LOS ANGELES - When Amy Winehouse said, "no, no, no" to rehab, she meant it. Taking better care of herself is a different matter, though. The 23-year-old British soul singer has decided to cancel her scheduled August concerts for health reasons, a spokeswoman said Thursday.
"Amy Winehouse is putting all her touring commitments for this month on hold until further notice in order to address her health issues," Tracey Miller said in a statement. "Amy will now not be performing at this weekend's V Festival in Chelmsford and Staffordshire. Her family has requested that the media respect Amy's privacy at this time. There will be no further comment."
Winehouse was hospitalized last week for "severe exhaustion." She is scheduled to begin a North American tour in September.

this whole situation is really amusing because Amy Winehouse has a song entitled "Rehab" in which she sings "They??re tryin to make me go to rehab / I said no, no, no" ... but now Amy is actually in rehab, contrary to the lyrics in her song!!

Amy Winehouse Postpones North American Tour
Aug 21 2007 8:55 PM EDT
First Amy Winehouse pulled out of shows in Norway and Denmark two weeks ago, then she pulled the plug on her V Festival appearances last week ?? now the U.K. starlet is shelving her remaining 2007 North American tour dates until next year. "Due to the rigors involved in touring, Amy Winehouse has been advised to postpone her upcoming September U.S. and Canadian tour dates," Winehouse's publicist said in a statement Tuesday (August 21), according to The Associated Press. "Amy's European and U.K. tour dates in October and November remain in place. Plans are being made to reschedule her U.S. tour for early 2008. Until then, Amy has been ordered to rest and is working with medical professionals to address her health." It is unclear whether the change in her North American tour plans will affect Winehouse's previously announced performance at the VMAs on September 9. ...

I really like Amy Winehouse and PART of me does really feel sorry for her. I don't want anyone like that to die or o.d. I was just trying to make some lame "Spinal Tap" joke. I'm sorry for writing that. Amy was great when I saw her earlier this year. And I know apparently you can't "eliminate" addiction but I'm saying a prayer every night that people who are addicts can.

Father-in-law: Boycott Winehouse albums
LONDON - Amy Winehouse's father-in law says fans should stop buying her records to force the singer to seek help for what he called a drug addiction.
Giles Fielder-Civil said he believed Winehouse and his son, Blake Fielder-Civil, had used cocaine, crack cocaine and heroin and were in "abject denial" about their problem.
"I think they believe they are recreational users of drugs and they are in control," Fielder-Civil told British Broadcasting Corp. radio Tuesday. "Clearly they are addicts."
He said fans should send a message to Winehouse "that her addiction and her behavior are not acceptable."
"Perhaps it is time to stop buying records," Fielder-Civil said. "It's a possibility, to send that message."
However, Winehouse's father said a boycott would do little good.
"It's all clutching at straws," Mitch Winehouse told the BBC. "There's only one way out of this, and anybody with any drug experience will tell you ... that the only way out of this is not sectioning them, not locking them up. At some point they are going to reach rock bottom ... and at that point they will say, `Listen, I don't want to do this anymore.'"
Giles Fielder-Civil said Winehouse's record label should be more "pro-active in helping the couple to get better."
Island Records couldn't immediately be reached for comment.
Winehouse, 23, has built her reputation on a soulful voice and a hard-partying image. Her most recent album, "Back to Black," topped the British charts and produced the hit single "Rehab."
Concern for her health has grown since Winehouse was taken to a hospital earlier this month for "severe exhaustion" and spent a short stint in a rehab facility. She has since canceled a series of British concerts and postponed a tour of the U.S. and Canada.
Last week, newspaper pictures showed Winehouse and Blake Fielder-Civil bloody and bruised, apparently after a fight in a London hotel.
Gossip Web site perezhilton.com said it had received text messages from Winehouse denying Fielder-Civil was responsible for her injuries.

i'm sorry . . . but this place is an indie national enquirer.

NEW YORK - Amy Winehouse won't be performing at the MTV Video Music Awards, or anywhere else in the United States anytime soon.
The British retro-soul singer was to perform at the Sept. 9 event in Las Vegas, but her U.S. record label, Universal Republic Records, said Wednesday that all U.S. appearances have been canceled "in a continued effort to support Amy Winehouse's well-being."
It is the latest setback for the gifted but troubled 23-year-old. Last week, she was photographed with her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, bloodied and bruised after an apparent fight in a London hotel.
The gossip Web site perezhilton.com has said it received text messages from Winehouse denying Fielder-Civil was responsible for her injuries, saying she cut herself after he found her about to do drugs.
She canceled a series of British concerts and postponed a tour of the U.S. and Canada after British media reported that she was in and out of rehab recently.
Winehouse made her U.S. debut this year with the acclaimed album "Back to Black," but her tabloid troubles have often overshadowed her talent. She's spoken openly about her past battles with drugs and her penchant for alcohol and marijuana. Her hit single "Rehab" is an autobiographical tale of her resistance to being pushed to go to rehab
