I'm going...and think that, with two bands, it may end early and I can get to DC9 afterwards!
-
it is a possibility

geez, did you consult your magic 8 ball? :)

Mongo like South. I'll be there.
-
Reply hazy, try again.
-
I bet South come on at Midnight.......
I intend to be too intoxicated to do anything other than roll down the stairs into the backbar. The last 2 times south played they hang out after the show and were quite entertaining.
-
Still working on it.

no, i'm consulting my aching foot...got some cortisone shots in it yesterday and was told not to run for a while, don't know if that applies to standing up at shows...its achey today, have to see how it feels tomorrow
i do want to go though, so, yes, it is a possibility

Will likely be there, at least for Metric and some of South. Last time I saw them they opened for Cornelius, who was aweseome. I almost fell asleep for their set.
-
will be there
-
Remember, it's 2-for-1! PM me if you need the email....
Markie, way to make up for those dry weeks! But if the band hangs out (though it's Metric I'm going to see...)
-
I'll be at the show.
-
the show at the galaxy hut will be better

haven't heard from pete since the last gig...

Can't compare it to the South show, but Myracle Brah was running like a well tuned engine last night. Even on an off night the band is scorching, but last night it all came together for one of the best sets I've even seen them do. Guess it's what happens when one gets a chance to tour Spain and get a little airplay. They started with six straight songs off "Treblemaker" and then proceeded with a typical greatest hits list. Awesome stuff, lets hope the fire is still there on Friday!

I miss Pete....
his CD still has not left the ipod. Quite a feat.
So, somehow I managed to consume 14 beers and a pepsi with vodka yesterday. I had a great day. Thanks to the suppliers.
Metric were absolutely perfect live. I can imagine that was how blondie was at her best. Seeing South afterward was bumping into an ex-girlfriend right after you had fallen in love at first sight.
-
ok. so south not very memorable, eh? we didn't get out of our engagement in time to make it so we had to skip?
14 beers and some vodka, christ markie, making up for not drinking during the week?
-
Metric were great, probably the best set I have seen this year, I know it is early, but it was better than a lot of my favorite shows last year as well.
South were painfully boring live.
-
I'm bummed I missed Metric.
Alas, the things we sacrifice for love......

Hate to say i told you so...glad we left 4 songs in. Metric were great.
-
I have to agree with all that has been said. Metric had great energy and sass. Fun, dance-able tunes. And a cool frontwoman who played the keyboards like she was possessed. As for South, a few tunes were good but for the most part they were nondescript and ordinary.

From Spin Mag online...
Bands to Watch: Metric
Who: Perky new wave quartet from Los Angeles via Toronto and New York City. Fronted by an intimidatingly cool, swaggering art girl, Metric include a guitarist who was formerly a renegade Juilliard trumpet student, an earnest drummer who immediately admits he??s fibbing about being related to national anthem composer Francis Scott Key, and an earthy, dreadlocked bassist who owns up to having no knowledge of J.Lo.
Sound like: Their debut, Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?, rocks like a sexy librarian: smart, sassy, and classy. On ??Combat Baby? and ??Dead Disco? (both of which have received radio airplay), singer/keyboardist Emily Haines?? sweetly edgy voice and slinky synths never waver, even as the songs veer from playfully danceable to elegantly eerie.
Kicking it Billy Joel-style: ??Keyboards have joined the ranks of serious rock instruments,? Haines proclaims. Indeed, Metric??s slick, hip-shaking live act reveals no evidence of the pianist??s perennial dilemma: less-than-cool stage poses. Guitarist James Shaw says, ??If you want to get up with a key-tar, go for it!?
As a bonus, they??ll catch your spirit if it flies away: ??I had a transcendent experience in Detroit,? Haines says, describing an intense audience. ??I hit some crazy high note and felt like the crowd??s souls all landed on me.?

Dudes, that's the outfit she was wearing at 9:30! Ditto to all that's been said. Metric was great. I actually thought South was going to be good as well; the first two songs had some life to them. But they kind of petered out after that.
And DC9 was cool. Bigger and 'nicer' than Velvet Lounge...I have high hopes.

Bags, my backyard shed in nicer than Velvet Lounge....and that's not a put-down because I like the place, but it is what it is.
Not so sorry I missed the show after these reviews..I could've gone after all, but it was last minute and I was settled with my pajamas, slippers and Ovaltine so couldn't be arsed at that point.

Oh, I know....Velvet Lounge is a shit house, but it's our shit house! And they have to get cred for being a venue that brings in smaller, regional acts. It will be interesting to see if DC9 and the Lounge act together to forge even more of a 'live music corridor" over there, or if they end up headbutting over bands, etc. I, of course, hope they both are very successful...
