In spite of all of this talk of Rams Head in Baltimore, we could be missing the start of something great.
Club Sonar, which WAS an all dance (rave) club and is now morphing to a rave/hip-hop/indie dance club and now has a concert hall attached to it.
the whole club holds over 1000 and i would say the concert area holds over 500 (maybe more)
Its only 4 blocks from Power Plant, but safe enough from the Power plant bars to not attract too many goofballs.
this fall they had Talib Kweli and future shows include....Le Tigre, Mos Def and Alter Bridge.
Maybe not your cup of tea, but not bands that would play anywhere else in Baltimore.
Don't know about sound and stuff yet, but the owner of the club has been a long time promoter in the rave scene and his events have been hailed as some of the best ever, production wise...
The best club venue in Baltimore, could just be turning into the best concert venue in town as well.

I'm interested in the place. I've heard good things about it. There have been a few good hip-hop shows there that I wanted to attend, but couldn't talk anyone into going...bastards!

I thought that the concert space hasn't opened yet. I went there last year and I like it there.
I think it'll be a fun place to see a show.

apparently it is now. they had Le Tigre scheduled to play last week. and Mos Def on Monday.
if you've ever been there on NYE or a big club night, sometimes they have that part open with DJs. like tomorrow night when Charles Feelgood is playing.

But it is right next to the new Hammerjacks which has its own group of goofballs.
I always prefered the old Sonar with the wood aesthetic to the more industrial new place. Also, there were spots that you could hang at the old one, the new one is louder everywhere. I wish Lonnie the best with the new facet to his venture, and I will probably be going to some of the shows there.

Who's gonna be there? Probably not Scott Henry since he's more of a DC person.

Freq Nasty and K-Swing, two breakbeat DJs one from England somewhere and one from NYC (NJ actually)
plus a friend of mine i think too. no hardcore techno or drum and bass boocrap.
:)
and Scott Henry is from Baltimore, remember that.

Is he? I just know he lives in Georgetown and most of his gigs are in DC.
Somebody is excited about the 15th. So I might be taking a trip up there.

Isn't DJ Sun still in B-more. Then again look what it did to him (he still is brilliant).

yeah i've been to sonar maybe 3 or 4 times since i moved there....their hiphop/indie/electro/rock nights on friday (taxlo) are halfway decent...though i think mainly because it's $4 pitchers of PBR before 11, heh.
i've also been there during their dnb/techno/whatever nights and its been alright. i just wish i could walk there instead of taking a cab heh. (i live in the canton area)
