Yeh, pretty much. Though if people want to turn this into a thread about metal and its different genres, by all means do so.

My post was more about lineage than genre distinction, King Diamond's first big break out of Denmark was with Mercyful Fate, so I was just pointing out that anyone actually interested in KD should start at the beginning (brilliant) rather than the end (pathetic).

This may have been taken the wrong way. I wasn't making fun of King Diamond or Mercyful Fate. It was more of that statement, "I like everything except country and rap." OK, here's an Ornette Coleman live album. It generally means they listen to Mix 107.3 or something.

No, I recognize that bullshit statment comes out of the mouths of a lot of people, it means they basically don't buy much music but rather listen to crap pop radio stations that feed them crass commercialism. And when you kind of call them on it, they seek to show how truly open minded they are with of course the exception of two deplorable extremes, country and rap.
But I wasn't sure if that was the road you were taking, or just pointing out that you think KD is some unlistenable screechy shit that even those "open minded" people couldn't tolerate. Alas I apologize for side-tracking your thread.

By saying some bullshit like "I love Black Eyed Peas!"
Pause.
True story.
"Rap is not pop/
If you call it that, then stop"
Just an add-on for people that say, "I listen to EVERYTHING!"

Nah man. Not making fun of King Diamond. Though a guy I knew in college interviewed him over the phone and apparently he speaks in falsetto as well.

moving on to rap, did you guys hear the story that 50 cents will stop making records if Kanye West sells more CD's than him?
Textual from sohh.com via suicide girls: "If Kanye West sells more records than 50 Cent on September 11, I'll no longer write music. I'll write music and work with my other artists, but I won't put out anymore solo albums."
man, this is really tempting, and to tell you the truth I really dig KW latest single...
-
gotta love fiddy's sense of linear logic:
"I'll no longer write music. I'll write music"

omnivores -- how do you explain your musical tastes to people?
i tell them "i listen to everything", but i don't think that quite explains it ... when people ask what i've been listening to i usually just end up mumbling something about the arcade fire or something like that, it's a littler harder to say "um, today i listened to throbbing gristle, femi kuti, and jay-z; how bout yourself?"
