So the Grammy nominations are out.
Fountains of Wayne are up for "Best New Artist".
Lots of recently dead people are up for awards. Some of those may be deserved, but I can't help but think they got more than a few sympathy votes. The White Stripes are in there too.

I like that both Bill and Hillary are nominated for a Grammy.
Bill's is the more interesting story. He's up for spoken word performance for a remake of Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf. In the new sanitized, politically correct version, the story is told from the Wolf's perspective. The Wolf is victimized by urbanization, polluted streams and the rapid loss of his forestland habitat. this explains his aggressive behavior. In the new ending, the Wolf is relocated and released in a protected wilderness area.
Nothing like making the classics bleeding-heart-friendly.

The guy self releases an album, and it gets nominated for a Grammy. I guess the big corporations don't control it all.

What the fuck is Fight Test by the Flaming Lips up for Best alternative ablum?
1. It's more like an EP at only 5 songs.
2. The Title track was on an album released more than a year ago.
3. It's really not that good.
Perhaps just a reference to Jack White will get you a Grammy nomination these days. I like the Lips but that is one nomination that could have been given to a more deserving effort.

I guess I'm a little surprised to see Queens of the Stone Age on there. I know "Songs for the Deaf" went gold or was just about to, but I really didn't get the impression that they were well-known in the industry. A friend of mine that worked in a mental hospital for teens tells me that QOTSA are very, very popular among the patients. Somehow that makes sense...apparently Black Sabbath is also pretty standard.

I like the White Stripes and Queens of the Stone Age.
I hope Outkast wins some awards, that along with Coldplay.
But anyway from the list nobody really interest me. I don't find any of the award shows entertaining.

the commies on comedy central looks like a good award show, and the video game awards on spike tv.....
