Anyone up for "woodland nymphs making lysergic folk, the Smurfs with a clutch of early Pink Floyd records" (Balt. City Paper)? I am!

That's exactly the reason I didn't buy tickets early.  Oh well, you can't win them all...unless one of you has an extra ticket or two you'd like to part with?

i tried buying them the other night at the club. kept checking the black cat site to make sure they were still available before i went to their "box office." never posted as sold out... but it sure was.

i'll never forget how lucky we are to have a venue like 930 where we can find out how a show is selling and even a potential sell out date/time.

guess i'll be trying to pick up extras at the door tomorrow. oh well.

its really great when you go to the black cat to buy tickets in advance and the guy at the table either 1) doesnt know where the ticket dude went and has you wait 20 minutes or 2)tells you the printer is broken

i <3 930 box office for this reason.

According to Charlie Nakatestes, Japanese Golfer, if you feel it takes a long time to get tickets at the Black Cat, you are either impatient or too cheap to get a new watch. I could dig out the quote, but it would take at least 12 seconds to do so.

So how was it?  I ended up choosing Netflix over standing outside begging for a ticket.  Any reviews?  Snailhook, any chance you know some of the setlist?

I thought the concert was pretty good.  It was definitely one of the weirdest i've ever been to.  The drummer, who was one of the best i've seen, stood up the entire show, jumping up and down banging on the drums. The guitarist had this sweet look to him where he was constantly jumping from foot to foot, lying on the ground, or singing into the microphone with such power it looked like he was trying to puke.  And, Panda bear's vocals were incredible.  He was perfectly on key the entire show, and his screaming (like on grass) was one of the coolest vocal tricks ever. I only knew a few of the songs, though,  like purple bottle, grass, banshee beat, Kids on holiday.  Those were definitely the highlights for me, especially purple bottle, which was incredible.  Some of their newer (or older?) songs that nobody knew got long and hard to listen to after awhile, although some were really good.  I think the audience was much more into it during the songs they knew, and it would have been a much better show if they played more of those.  But, then again, where's the art in that?

 What did other people think?

i heard rumors of animal collective not being that great live and they were right. i thought their show sucked. they maybe played 3 good songs the whole night shuffled in with the rest of the 45 minutes of screaming b-sides. the dude with swaying mine flashlight was just plain annoying. the opening band from iceland blew them out of the water. don't even bother seeing them in towson on friday if you missed out last night. you'll be wasting your money

I actually agree with this.  I saw them last year, and despite really liking their last two albums, I really didn't enjoy their live set at all.

Well, this was the first show in a long time that I truly didn't enjoy.  I didn't know much about the group and had only heard the latest album a few times, so went in with an open mind.  After about 45 minutes I pretty much knew it wasn't my cup of tea.

I don't want to say they were "bad" necessarily.  They certainly had passion and it was a sold out show, so they've got fans.  But all I could really hear was cacophony.  No melodies or anything I could follow musically except the drum beat.

I wish I had caught more of the opener.  I walked in during the end of the last song.  I think I counted 9 on stage.  Cool sound, I liked the brass.

I love them on record - was a bit disappointed with the live show - too much unfamiliar weirdness the first half of the set, standing in one place in a hot crowded room, I lost interest during the more familiar upbeat songs at the end and ducked out before it was over.  Don't get me wrong, I don't need to hear all my fav songs when I go to a show, but it was just a poor sequencing of the setlist in my opinion.  Opening band was entertaining... accordian, brass, banjo, distortion on an acoustic guitar, ugly shirts, broken english and goofy smiles.
