You guys might think Im a douche or whatever, but this is serious. My stepdad flipped his shit when I told him I voted Obama. He said I couldnt eat food out of HIS regerator [even though I buy me and my sisters food AND him], he said Id have to start paying rent, and he also said I will have to give him $5000 dollars because that's how much Obama is going to raise his taxes. He said Barack's a communist and that me voting for him takes money out of my family's pocket. He calls me a dope smoking piece of shit even though I havent' smoked weed since I was a Sophomore in high school almost 7 fucking years ago. Outside of shooting him in his fucking mouth how can I get him to shut the fuck up?
-
move.
-
can you couch surf until it blows over or until you can find a place you can call your own?
-
tell your stepdad hes rich and should be buying your weed
-
funny, on one hand you think electing a black president would improve racial issues in america, on the other hand, it seems to be bringing out the worst in people. I've heard the "n" word more times this week than i've heard it all year long before that.
and although your stepdad didnt say anything racist, its hard to think he would be THAT upset about a white candidate he doesnt agree with. but i dont know him, now do i!
-
Dude, get out. I didn't support Obama but he's OUR President now so all the still be haters need to get over it. I like the guy now and I think he'll do a fine job although he has a lot of crap to clean up. If you stay, it's only gonna get worse and you might do something stupid....Like what you said in your last sentence. It's not worth it!!!!!!!
-
he's back!!! i've missed you so!
-
See, this I'm glad to see. Rob's walking the walk, and it's refreshing to see someone realizing that we can't all just sit around for four years crying in our panties. And I say this going for either side, since we should retire the whole "Al Gore won" whining (even if it was bullshit ;) )

Nobody else better to insult? ;-)
What's up buddy. I thought about you this year when the Red Sox were kicking the Yanks @ss in the standings.
-
I can't believe all the credulous dumbasses on this board.
"Death from Above," you're full of shit.
And in case you're not full of shit, if you were a sophomore in HS 7 years ago, shouldn't you be a college grad by now? What are you doing living with your stepdad? Get off the dole you liberal twat.
-
i just the other day was wondering where you went Buck... welcome back
and buck tells the truth that it's best to get out and not ending up doing something you'll regret for the rest of your life...
i'd check craiglist and see if you can find someone looking for a roommate

Maybe Julian has an open room?

Stupid Tampa Bay.
-
My thoughts exactly!
I moved back in with my parents for a year after grad school and I paid rent. My wife moved out of her house at 18 and started supporting herself.
Either move, or pay rent.

nkotb, it would have been pretty hypocritical of me to say I supported Bush (even though he did a horrible job) all those years because he was OUR President and not support Obama (who will be much better in my opinion) now that he is OUR President. I consider myself an Indpandent because I don't really follow either party, which makes it easier for me to support EITHER candidate when they win.
-
Sonick, the only thing stupid about Tampa Bay was that they didn't represent the AL East as well as they could have. I was happy to follow their story all year. I mean, last for ten years or more to the World Series, that was pretty fun to watch even if it was at the expense of our teams.
-
nice... let pass judgement on why DFA1979 is still living at home... maybe there are reasons beyond financial why he's still there...
-
Move. He may be an ass, but by my calculations you must be at least 21 or 22 years old, so why are you living there anyway?
Time to leave the nest.
-
Just to explain, I was being straight-up. It's nice to see someone throw support behind our new president even if they didn't support him. It's pretty noble. I think a lot of people (on both sides) should take note of that. P.S. Welcome back!

pretty soon, the christians will say people who voted for obama will burn in hell and attempt to amend the constitution so others cannot vote for him in the future.

I live at home to keep my stepdad and mom from killing each other and to support my sisters while theyre in school. As much as Id love to move out I really dont think itd be healthy. My stepdad is a closet alcoholic, a control freak, a racist, and Im prettys ure an epic bi-polar. On top of that He's a giant child, no one can tell him he's wrong ever and if we or I do we're just threatened. My grandparents have tried and tried and tried to get him to move out but for some god damn reason he WILL NOT. On top of that he's a cop in DC so he, seriuosly, could come up with something to get us all thrown in jail and he get custody of both of my sisters [5 and 10].
Thanks for all the advice, Id really love to leave but all I can do is ignore him and what he says. The only thing I really fucking hate is that he gives my mom the most shit and when she doesn't listen he yells at my sisters and well I tell him that they don't need to know what OUR problems are as adults he flips his shit. THe man has a short fuse if he even has one at all.
-
seriously..if its his house, its his rules. so i guess you can listen to what he says or move out.
-
I honestly have no problem paying rent I really dont, Im sick of him treating me like Im 15, like I dont matter, like Im some fucking thug piece of shit that just mooches off of him. I pay for all my own shit outside of rent. And I consider this my mother's house, not his.
-
hopefully it will blow over.
It reminds me when Martin O Malley won the Governor race 2 years back and my boss was so fired up mad about it, he was like screaming at everyone for 2 weeks, especially people he knew were behind O Malley. Crazy how people cant seperate things in their brains sometimes.
-
If he's a DC Cop, why does he think he's going to get taxed an extra $5000.00? Last I checked, DC Cops don't make over $250,000 a year.
-
I tried to get him to explain where this math came from and he could not for some reason. He works with the Magistrate, I know that. But it's still just some desk job. I hope it will blow over but he's not one to let things go. The man is gonna have a heart attack and then maybe he'll relax, he knows exactly how to stress himself out and prevent it, but he doesn't.

Hahahahaha
Dude, I have a blog.
-
well this a situation people never want to find themselves in... my gut feeling is that you should talk to a professional in a reputable organization through anonymous contact at first to find out what your options are... Al-Anon possibly? but having no experience what so ever in this area, i can't say for sure...
maybe someone who has first hand experience dealing with situations like this can PM you better info
-
If he's bi-polar like you think he is and he doesn't get help, it will NEVER get better unless something bad happens. You can't win unless that person gets help. That's what it sounds like to me but like Kosmo, I'm no professional and can only make suggestions.
-
I hope we don't end up seeing you on the Nancy Grace show.

this board is so exciting lately

if it'd just been prefixed with a "Hola amigos," that first post coulda been a classic Jim Anchowar column

I need to call up Intervention. He's not as bad as that bum ass alcoholic dude, but he's close.
-
Intervention rocks!!!!! Too many reruns though for a show that only comes on once a week. Unless they changed the schedule but from what I remember, it was just Monday nights.
-
Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.
-
be nice, jew lion
-
What? I was nice! I implied there was no one nicer that a similar travesty could befall. Am I not using that phrase correctly?
-
DFA, you need to get the fuck out of the house.
And your mother needs to grow a spine and do the same, with children in tow.

awesome

Meh, we'll see how it goes. My grandfather always offers helps but whenever we talk to him you can see him in his head plugging his ears and stomping around like a child until he gets a chance to yell.
Its dumb.
-
It's not dumb, it's childish, like you said in an earlier post.
-
Thanks for the advice all. It's very much appreciated.

document everything and convince your mom to move out with the kids. would also do what kvinyl suggested and seek professional advice to find out what the options are.

obama's not a communist. he is a black panther and a muslim.

yup. what charlie said, charlie. that's a really shitty situation you're in and you have my sympathies. if what you say is true, your step dad is a manipulative asshole. the fact that you're sticking around for your sisters' sakes is pretty cool, but you should plan an exit strategy.
if you want to be confrontational: maybe provide some research showing that his taxes won't go up by $5000? you could point him to sources that shows that his taxes should go *down* under obama's plan. undoubtedly he'll claim all those articles are false, at which point ask him to back his beliefs... hint, tell him "my drinking buddies told me so" doesn't constitute proof. eventually/hopefully, he'll have to admit that he can't be certain, or he'll have to admit that he's certain without being able to prove it.
i'm probably over-stepping here, and i say this knowing nothing about your situation, but it sounds like you need to have a word with you mom about how intolerable this is. this man sounds abusive and isn't providing a decent home environment. what kind of an example is he providing to your sisters? great way of encouraging democracy, a fundamental american value, btw.
an dobviously, don't let him eat any more of your food.

he could poison it first

Then move out, because this really isn't about Barack Obama.

He is absolutely a manipulative prick bastard piece fo shit. Do not get me wrong I have been around him since I was 6, I love the man and honestly appreciate everything he did for me growing up but Im not 6 anymore and he will never see that and he only sees the negative on life. It is an absolutely horrible environment to be in and all I can really care for is for him to seperate his mine and my mothers problems from my sisters. They don't need to hear racist remarks, they don't need to hear about his grudges with his brothers, his job woes and just about any and every curse word.
And no one can tell him he's wrong is the worst part of it all. Thanks again for all the advice and I am doing and have done research on Obama's tax plans and even what McCain didn't sign and Obama did. There is literally, emotionallly, physically and figuratively no way to get through to him.
-
Man up and find a place to live.
-
Given that there is no way to communicate with this individual, I wouldn't bother laying down facts in front of him. It would be a frustrating experience that wouldn't accomplish anything positive.
Do have your story straight though if the conversation comes up again.

Living with the folks in your 20's and not paying rent........that statement pretty much sums it up in my opinion. If you had any balls you'd protect your mother and sisters against this bully.
Sorry to sound harsh on you but it's not personal as I don't know you, but going from what I've read you're a man now and need to start behaving like one.

don't give people any ideas. kids shoot adults for no apparent reason now (besides of course being controlled by years of fucked up media).

I don't think this gives him as much clout as you think it does. Especially since if he has issues the people he works with are probably aware of it.

Ok the title of this is so goshdarned awesome, I couldn't not use it to start my comment about voting.
On to the topic at hand...ARL pulled one of the first underdog wins (I don't think it's called that) in US Ranked Choice Voting
In perhaps the first proportional #RCV primary election in US history, @maureencoffeyva vaults from 3rd place to victory thanks mostly to backup votes from fellow pro-housing candidate @JDforArlington.
