Instead, Guillermo Del Toro (of Pan's Labyrinth fame) will direct the LOTR prequel.

Devil's Backbone is my favorite Del Toro flick - highly recommended.

I seem to remember reading something where a bunch of peeps involved in the first three claimed they wouldn't return if Jackson wasn't involved.  I'm sure hefty paychecks will change their minds, but still.

He's still producing the movie, so it's not like the guy is out of the picture.
