Hippest of festivals? check. Retarded baby boomer? check ...who everyone thinks is a genius? check. (http://www.kesq.com/Global/story.asp?S=8240551&nav=9qrx)
"Vote Obama" slogans? check.
Your pathetic fellation of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Morrissey, Nick Cave, Lou Reed, Springsteen, Beatles, Lennon, Paul Weller floating away while fresh, young talent remains? check.
Where or where has your little pig gone?

Who votes I delete this garbage!
-
I think this is the first Brian Wallace post that has actually made me laugh.
-
This reminds me of the Homerpalooza Simpsons episode.
-
It's not funny...it's tiring and boring. If he hates being here so much, why doesn't he just go the fuck away? It's a waste of his time, and ours. I moved away from my family to get away from people who spew negativity. Brian Wallace is like the drunken guest at the Christmas dinner table who gets up on the table and takes a shit on your plate. I'm done with it.

the fat drunken guest, actually!

Man, no wonder you wanted to get away from your family.

I say leave the post. It's a post from Brian, so everyone should know what to expect, and the title doesn't exactly give the warm and fuzzies that he's NOT going to mock the board.
If you really can't stand Brian's posts, just don't read them. Seems pretty easy. Personally, I'd rather have someone to offer different (if not fundamentally wrong) opinions here, but that just might be me...

I love the guy
makes me feel good about not trying to please the perennially unhappy
-
How come Seth isn't No. 1??
I'd delete this lame thread
-
bearman: agreed. i don't get why he bothers with this bboard. maybe brian is delusional and thinks he's on a crusade to change hipsterdom?
question: is brian as much of a loud-mouth douche in real life as he is on this board?
methinks not. i'm willing to bet he's a frustrated, quiet man who has trouble talking to other people. probably a shut-in. should we send food, brian? maybe a hug? a therapist to help you work through the issues associated with having been abused by a classic rock hit?
or maybe you just need to grow up. your on-going whining is childish.

Yeah, cause Brian is such a happy go lucky guy. is he going to your festival? i bet he isnt!
i think some people have the strange stereotype that people on here are perenially unhappy.
I think its ridiculous. But i guess if thinking the Offspring, Lil Wayne and KT Tunstall at a festival isnt worth spending $200 on....then color me unhappy!
There are several , i mean, dozens of threads on this board that are positive. But one negative thread and "OMG these people are crybabies!!!"
Is it easier to discount a demographic when you say they are impossible to please?
-
I think it's time to retire the expression 'color me '
-
Well, I don't consider myself a misanthrope but...
Actually, this probably belongs in the Vfest thread but Seth, PLEASE, specify some sort of rehearsal for Mr. Berry and the Silver Jews or Silver ELO or whatever. I've personally seen Mr. Berry perform and:
#1) Bo Diddley blew him off the stage which...
#2) ...wasn't too hard a feat.
It sounds shambolic and not in the Mats-in-'84-after-the-club-offered-free-beer "cool" shambolic way. Really sort of "what the hell is he playing?" kind of way, which tends to lose a festival crowd.
Funny anecdote. You know what a Springsteen nut I am (R.I.P., Phantom Danny.) Anyhow, during the early 70's Springsteen was playing various halls up and down the Jersey shore and was in a promoterā??s office after the show. Springsteen saw that Chuck Berry was coming in soon and the promoter complained that he would have to put together a backing band. Springsteen looked at the other E Streeters and volunteered "WE could be his band!" So, Bruce and company rehearse Berry's catalog and set up the night of the show. With the crowd waiting, Berry gets out of his Cadillac carrying his Gibson ES-335 in its case and goes to the promoterā??s office to get paid. After that he gets introduced, comes on stage and plugs in, never acknowledging Bruce and the band. Bruce asks him what songs they're going to play. Chuck replies "We're going to play some Chuck Berry songs, son" and launches into "No Particular Place to Go."
True story. But it's actually a lot better when Bruce tells it.

I say let him have his say...he spends his whole life in his bedroom posting on the 930 board or wanking off to National Geographic magazine because he's not old enough to buy Penthouse or Hustler.
-
ok calling it garbage was a bit harsh.. however, what bugs me most is the constantly flawd logic being used here...
sure 95% of this board still listens to and gets excited for acts/bands of the past. i would also say that the vast majority of the people here also get excited for the young fresh talent out there as well.. however apparently we can't listen to the past and aren't listening to the proper young fresh talent. i honestly want to know what proper young fresh talent is BW approved as all it has ever seemed to be is Fallout Boy, Panic At The Disco and Dana Cook. none which is very fresh... BW claims to being saving us hipsters and olde music fans from themselves, but trying to foist those acts don't our throats ain't going to cut it.
p.s. bashing people here for liking any band that appears in pitchfork is such a non-starter, given it's become a clearing house for "indie rock". it's like bashing a gadget that shows on gizmodo or engadget.

Brian comes home from school and says proudly to his father, "Guess what Pa, I have the biggest pee pee in 5th grade". "That's great son, you must be very proud" "I am. Pa, do I got the biggest pee-pee in 5th grade coz I'm blessed?" "No son, becaue you're 36 years old!!!"
I was referring to mental age more than anything else.

Why does everyone use any available thread to get on their soapbox and bleat on about petty, pissy grudges? Crapping on a table. The correspondentā??s dinner. 47 year old virgin's disturbing obsession with grade school penises and Morrissey. Pointlessly rambling on about all that you love...and all that you hate.
All you distrust and all that you save.
Let's get back to the topic at hand. Some washed up retro act LOST A GIANT INFLATABLE PIG!!!
Let's keep our eyes on the prize, people.
Yes, we can.

Because you felt the need to preface your "clever" comment with your usual verbal diarrhea diatribe about this forums collective tastes in music and oh so boring tacky comments about bands that you don't consider "fresh".
Do a little self editing and some of us might actually get a rats ass about what you are on about...

perfect metaphor indeed, but brian got it wrong:
aging rocker headlines major festival and is paid tons of money; while sad, spiteful "fresh young talent" is left to post pointless drivel on a little-read message board (when not touching himself to Nat Geo pix, of course).

Whoa...he got to meet Clay Davis! Greatest made-for-tv politician ever. That would've made it all worth it for me.
Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit
Edit: I'm writing in Clay Davis if Obama doesn't get the nomination.

Leave it to me to follow the beat of a different drummer but I really like Brian. Don't agree with about 95% of what he writes but that doesn't phase me. Also, I know the guy hates about 95% of most of the music that I like but that doesn't phase me either. There are many others here who don't like it either but I'm not going to hold it against them as well. I don't like a large amount of music discussed on this board but I too keep coming back. It's the general love of music itself and some of the other banter I enjoy. Occassionally, I even stumble across something new that I like, thanks to you all. Brian makes me laugh...a lot. Maybe it's just my warped sense of humor. Those who know me know I love the crazies anyway.
Brian has never, ever insulted me personally so I don't take his slights against any given music as a personal affront. Even his Baby Boomer cracks don't bother me. I just perceive them as more misguided thoughts of a misled mind. Period. I can't help but think that some people take him too seriously. Or more importantly, maybe too personally. Unless he's pulling one on you, you ought to just let it ride. When he does that, it's usually after another board member has already taken him to task first then it just snowballs. Not that I'm keeping score but the guy is often just shooting back, often in delay mode. You all should learn to get a sense of levity and loosen up a bit. You too Brian. ;)
Like NKOTB said, it's great to read different points of view regardless of whether or not you agree.

Says the guy who perenially whines about the people on this board. Nice irony there pops.

i think the problem some of us have is that hes just trying to be contradictive and agrumentative, not that he has some new outlook on things.
anyone who claims to love My Chamical Romance but yet thinks Skid Row and Queen were never any good , surely is just pullin' our legs!
I'm all for someone with a different outlook, but when it seems as though ppl are using the internet to make up fake personas just cause they like to get ppl worked up...seems wasteful of everyones time.
-
Are you referring to Vansmack pretending he's some kind of ladies man?

Oh, man. This looks like it's going to be an entertaining thread today and I have to leave for work now.
Rhett, you just made me laugh. (Sorry, Smackie. ;) )
Sonick, you made some valid points though I guess we just view the situation a bit differently. Personally, I think the guy's taste in music sucks but he too thinks mine sucks, so we're even. Fine with me since I respect one's right to like whatever the Hell they want to like. I don't think Brian is a fake persona but maybe I'm just gulible. Will get back with you later.
Have fun ya'll and try not to lose your cool.

Yes...."fake personas"..."Erinaceous Sonickus" or "Vansmack" or "Sweet Cell"... I think Seth and I are the only two people on this message board who use their real names. You may think I'm a clueless idiot but I don't say these things to get a rise out of people. I'm not a provocateur. I believe what I say.
Anyhow...DAMMIT! They found the pig! (http://www.kesq.com/Global/story.asp?S=8240551&nav=9qrx)
I was hoping Roger Waters would make some pathetic video on YouTube impassionedly pleading with his still-living-in-their-parents-basement-while-writing-"new"-"funny"-Monty-Python-skits fans to:
"Please return my pig. It's not paid off yet, and that bastard David Gilmour has been on my case about late payments. But vote Obama...Drop the Debt and return my pig!"
Or maybe someone could have taken it around the world (like they do with garden gnomes) and took pictures of it standing next to famous "rock" landmarks. Like the toilets at CBGB's or Winona Ryder's vagina.

oh where oh where is the hot young talent we are reportedly missing out on, or is it just another case of something filled with hot air?

welcome to the club of the perenially unhappy! :)

Day Three and still no recommendations of Fresh Young Talent in which to satisfy our ears with. Let fellawaiting continue...
-
Yeah, I agree with Kosmo, lets have Brian recommend US some good music to rock to!!!
Cause saying Fall Out Boy and MCR , thats like us championing Radiohead and Wilco, its nothing new.
surely theres some other cool new bands. I'd like to hear em too, after just turning 30 anything to keep myself feeling connected with Generation...whatever they call themselves.
-
you guys are mistaking brian for an actual music fan. how generous of you.
-
hey i'm just try to give Mr W. the chance to prove there's some action behind those words...
-
speaking of fresh young talent, i saw the "Bamboozle Road Show" last night and there were 5 bands of fresh young talent,
Lydia, Metro Station, Armor For Sleep, Set Your Goals and Saves the Day and let me tell you
if thats fresh young talent, you can have it cause it sucks big fat hairy rotten eggs!
(actually Lydia was ok, decent instrumentation with a hint of SDRE thrown in)
-
Do you really think I'd smugly, arrogantly dictate what's good and what's not good to you people? Open your ears. If you hear something fresh and exciting, that's great. Spread the word. If you're happy when "Everyday is Like Sunday" comes on the radio, turn it up and say "That's my Jam!" then, good for you. Good luck with that.
The kind of person who would start a "Things ________ thinks you should know" thread? Yeah...I'm the exact OPPOSITE of that kind of person.
Brian

point proven
-
cant even name ONE band. pretty disappointing.
and here i thought everyone had at least SOMETHING to contribute.

I dont know about the rest .. but Armor For Sleep and Saves the Day aren't young at all .. or fresh. WTF. Is that what this tour is supposed to tout? Both have been around several years .. hell, Saves the Day like 10+ years.

no no, i realize that Saves the Day has been around for a while. it was just the show i happened to be at and most of thier fans are 15.
Though, Saves the Day are old married dudes who were completely wasted when they went on stage, drank the entire time they were "taking requests" and then finished with "we'd love to play more but we're so wasted we'd probably just embarass ourselves"
kinda late for that, i thought.
