According to their web site they are coming to D.C. in early-to-mid March. Anything anyone wants to share? I imagine it will be at the 9:30 Club?
-
I definitely will not be missing them this time.
-
YEEEEEEEEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I can't wait for the words of wisdom from Brian Wallacallace regarding this topic.

Here's the website posting:
"Spring 2008 USA Goodness
The Pogues have announced that there will be shows in Chicago, Washington DC, Baltimore, New York City, Boston and Philidelphia. Dates and venues have not
been announced, but the tour will take place between March 5 (starting in Chicago) and March 20 (ending in Boston). Saint Patrick's day will be at Roseland
in New York City."
So it looks like two area shows.
-
Then again, they did play 2 club shows last time around didn't they?
-
Yes, they played for two nights last time.
-
Last time, 2007, they skipped DC. In 2006, they played DC for 2 nights.
-
if they were smart they would play the birchmere. the food is better and parking is free.
-

BAH humbug. This happened a couple years ago -- they played NY for St Patty's day, but were in DC during SxSW. Folks in NY could skip a day of SxSW, but they played DC over the SxSW weekend....

Anybody have the password?

Ah yes...St. Patty's Day...the annual holiday that celebrates the disc shaped serving of ground meat.
It's just pure coincidence that it is celebrated on the same day as St. Patrick's Day, the patron saint of Eire, also known in most countries as St. Paddy's Day.
-
Pogues web site is unofficially saying (on their forum) that they are playing the 9:30 Club 9 and 10 March, then RHL in Baltimore on the 12th, if I remember correctly. So, again, this was just someone saying that Spider (whistle player from the band) told them these dates, but it looks pretty reliable from past experience. Cheers!
-
CONFIRMED at the Pogues web site. See you at the shows! Cheers!

It looks like one dc date and one nyc date will be added once the dc/nyc shows sell out.
-
Thanks for the heads up. There's an internet pre-sale on Monday, December 17th via their web site.
-
Unfortunate that the DC date is on a Sunday. Looks like I'll be calling in sick on Monday...
-
just got my tickets...thanks everyone for the heads up on the pre-sale.
-
I just got mine too. Although I was surprised at the price: $55+. Was it that much the last time they played 9:30?
-
Wow, $55. Too costly for my blood. And I don't have time to bother with recouping the cost by buying and selling extras.
-
If the Police and Madonna are getting $200 plus, then the Pogues must be worth a G at least.
I'm seriously thinking about coming up for that show....I can always get tickets on the day if I pay enough, and there's no hope they'll come to FL.
-
Um, neither the Police nor the Madonna are worth anywhere near $200. So your scale is off.

I agree, but that's what they were getting...
-
They were $50 last time...and went pretty fast.

SO there is nothing on this website about when the general public will get a chance to buy Pogues tickets for the 3/9 concert. sadly, i missed the presale for DC. any idea when tickets will go on sale for the unfortunate people like me? i think i am going to scarf up some Baltimore tickets just in case.

I thought I read it would be Thursday, but I may be wrong. Good luck, should be a great show.

Uh...have you been on The Pogues site?
-
tickets.com comes back with nothing when you enter "pogues" or "the pogues." ticketmaster is only showing the 2 shows in NYC for the Pogues. weird.
-
yes, i have been on their website (which is how i found out that i had missed the presale). it says that tickets go on sale tomorrow, with a link to the sale "to be announced." absent a desire to create a feeding frenzy, one would think that providing more than 24 hours notice for announcing a show and putting the tickets on sale would be de rigueur in this business.
-
check tickets.com after 6 pm. Since the general on sale date is tomorrow, it will definitely be on tickets.com tonight.

tickets for 930 shows normally go on sale every Thursday at 10AM. go ahead and check tickets.com later tonight. the show will probably be listed there with the exact on sale date and time. good luck getting tickets.
-
there ya go, as per tickets.com
The Pogues
9:30 Club Sunday, 3/9/08 7:00PM EDT
On Sale on 12/20/07 10:00AM EST

anyone know when show #2 will go on sale? immediately after #1 sells out? or on friday, or next week?
i can't make the sunday show, but might be able to do monday night.
-
#2 not on sale immediately, but definitely happening
-
but the real question is; Is Shane gonna be there?
Ive heard rumors he might not be. it would be a let down expecting to see him and he's not there.
-
He'll be there. Philip Chevron, the guitar player, is on medical leave for throat cancer, but since he is on the mend we remain hopeful that he will be back in the lineup in March. Shane MacGowan, on the other hand, has not missed a single show since they reunited. So, yes, Shane will be there and will likely balance a bottle on his head without spilling a drop.
-

I think you meant to say:
"Shane has started every show since they reunited. He's probably finished just over half of them."
-
chances are I'll miss this one too. way too steep. I'm hoping, but... bleh. =/ I'm glad they're playing though maybe I will end up getting some luck from Santa.

Nonsense.....he has finished every Pogues show.
-
NIGHT 1 SOLD OUT!
-
A little secret...Shane does not get as shitfaced as he portrays on stage. Have you noticed how much water he drinks during the show???
-
He gets pretty fucking shitfaced
-
yeah. pretty shitfaced doesn't even come close to covering it. he was much better at the last pogues shows that at his solo gigs, but it is most definitely not an act.
-
This will me my first live Shane experience. I wouldn't expect him to be anything less than completely blotto, but can he still sing in the shape he's in? I have visions of him reading along to a tele-prompter.
-
they were brilliant 2/3 years ago at the club
-
Yup, sober.
Attempted Interview w/ Shane (http://youtube.com/watch?v=SirutCHZ-QI&feature=related)

I always thought Shane was great as Nog on Star Trek.

<img src="http://ickmusic.com/pics/shane.jpg" alt=" - " />
-
always too drunk to take care of his teeth, smokes like a champ, yet always finds the time to put on a suit
pretty much my hero

I do not worship at the "alter of Shane", but to his credit, he can belt out the songs regardless of his condition. Some people seem to think its some kind of act.....its not -- the man gets into a state in which most would/could not perform well. Its probably the lack of teeth that effects his singing the most -- proper enunciation is hard without teeth. But no shit -- you're asking really is: "is this going to be a crap show?"... and the answer is absolutely not. If you like the Popes or teh Pogues, you are going to be well entertained by Shane. And catch it while you can, because who knows when they will tour no more.
-
<img src="http://www.pogues.com/Pics/Covers/Books/Drink/drink.jpg" alt=" - " />
He mentions his condition on stage in this book, and I have no reason to suspect he's lying. He says that in the early days he was completely out of it, but later he played it up a bit because people would be disapointed if he wasn't competely out of it. Besides, not only does he never forget the words, his timing is also perfect, so I find it hard to believe he could be absolutey destroyed and perform like that....I never said he fakes being drunk, I just said he's not as shitfaced as he portrays. I agaree, His lack of teeth is partly to blame for his slurred speech.

i've had "conversations" with the man before and after his shows. i'm a pretty good judge of drunk, and he was most certainly that. that's all i'm saying.
anybody that needs someone to shine a flashlight on his face when the lights go down to make sure he walks in the right direction and not off the front of the stage is pretty far gone. this was several years ago, and he was much better last time. still needed an assistant, though.
-
Happy Birthday 50th Shane!
<img src="http://img.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2007/12_04/MacGowanXP2412_468x704.jpg" alt=" - " />
Here's an article where he claims to have started drinking at FOUR. More importantly he's getting his teef fixed!!!
First Ribena, then Stout (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/showbiz/showbiznews.html?in_article_id=504386&in_page_id=1773)
-
In the book I read he says his uncles in Ireland used to give him Guiness at 4 years old....He also said he was getting his teeth done after the first re-release of Fairytale a good few years ago so don't hold your breath on that one...
;)

Picked up three tickets to the Baltimore show yesterday so they are still available
-
I saw him with The Popes sometime in the early 2000's and he passed out for three songs. The band continued playing.
Two years ago I saw him with The Pogues. Great show all around.
He gets drunk but so does everyone else.
-
Does anyone have an idea what the day second show will be? Any chance for a Saturday nighter? would be nice not to have to go to work the day after a Pogues show.
-
The 2nd show is Monday night, announced on www.pogues.com (http://www.pogues.com)
-

Where is this announcement? I only see March 9 listed.
-
I'm not sure what I read or where that led me to believe that the second show would be the 10th and not the 8th. But the 8th is my birthday, and if I must go to a Pogues show on such a great occasion, then I might as well bring my daughter to teh show, as she was born on that date as well! (btw... any coaching on where to stand with an 8 year old at teh 9:30 Club will be appreciated... and yes, I've been to plenty of shows and have no intention of taking her onto the main floor in front of the stage...cheers!)
-
I'd probably go up to the balcony if I had an 8 year old in tow. At the Pogues show you always get the stupid frat boys pretending to be all drunk and Irish and stuff....it's really quite pathetic.
-
I don't see it on there now, but did see it when they were first announced on there. Could have been wrong date on there, but it was a Sunday and Monday in DC, then a Wednesday in Baltimore.
-
That would just make sense.

I guess they are waiting to see how many people sign up for the web list thingy. Or maybe the sales in Bmore are lower and they want to even things out.
-
the second show was definitely announced as being on monday the 10th. when i asked seth (http://www.930.com/cgi-bin/ubb-cgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=016629;p=1#000032) about onsale for the second show, he didn't correct me about it being on monday night - you'd think he would if i was wrong. other than that, i'm too lazy (and on vacation in hawaii :D ) to find confirmation for ya.
-
At a Popes show several years ago, Shane was drinking a clear liquid throughout the show from a big pint glass. It looked like water. After the show, as the roadies were breaking down the stage, I asked one to hand me the glass (which I took home as my one, truly bizarre Shane McGowan souvenir). Shane hadn't been drinking water, but straight gin. He probably gulped two or three of these, in addition to swilling from a big bottle of wine. I doubt he was pretending to be drunk that night.
I expect as much from Shane this March. Though I got shut out of the first show, I hope I can grab tickets to the second.

Pollstar has another show listed on the 8th.
Possible that the Pogues would play a late show. But much more likely means the second show will be on the 10th.
Damn! Some of us have to work with children on Tuesday mornings!

-
Its the 10th. Good luck getting tickets everyone. I think I'll stick with the 9th. Cheers! :)
-
Where is it said it's the 10th? I am not doubting, I just want to be sure when I make various travel plans tomorrow.
-
Presale tickets are on sale now. I was going to go but it's a little more than I anticipated. Here ya go...

Gracias
-
Did anyone else get an email announcement on the 2nd show with a "link" that doesn't work???
-
6949 - Many thanks for posting that Pogues site link! It worked like a champ!...and 3/10 tickets are available...
-
No need to fool with the link, just go to tickets.com and type in 9:30 Club for the venue and you'll see the listing for the 3/10 show.
-
$55 + fees! Have fun.
-
Is he really only 50? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYlGWzZaqXo)
Poor guy sounds barely alive in that clip.
-
I am slow

Has anyone heard who will be opening for the Pogues shows? Maybe someone on the club staff knows? Thanks!

I'm guessing William Elliott Whitmore...
-
Shameless bump. See you at the show.
-
come early and see urban voodoo machine. they were very entertaining.
-
So who saw the show last night? 9:15 sound about right for showtime?
-
I think the Pogues started at 9:30, but you should follow thatguy's advice above. The Urban Voodoo Machine was a fun opener.
-
Just one more thing...when did they wrap up? 11:45 metro last call is such a kick in the ass...
-
last night was the worst sounding show at the 930.
-
They started at 9:30 and ended at 11:20. That included two encores.
-
Did Shane get totally shitfaced? Drinking is so cool!
-
i'd never seen the pogues before. how did that compare to other shows? didn't do all that much for me. the openers were pretty fun, like a cross between social d and stray cats, or something like that. have no idea how they will fit on the red and black stage on tuesday.
-
I don't think Shane "gets" totally shitfaced....I think he just pretty much "is" totally shitfaced.
That said I thought the show was pretty good. I was there the first night. I didn't think sound was that bad...there was some occasional feedback (monitors I think) and there was one song where things went pretty wrong soundwise but other than that OK. Not the best but not terrible sound.
Shanes voice held up better than I thought, some of the material he sounded quite good, but he's got a great band to carry him.
