Round Correct Pick
First 1 point
Second 2 points

Fourth 8 points
Semifinals 16 points
Finals 32 points
Maximum Possible 192 points

the standard scoring method is the best, so no one gets confused.
can you see everyone else's brackets on the yahoo thingy?

I've run a pool for about 15 years of family and friends across the nation. With people across the nation you get a good mix of fans of different conferences and a good mix of varied picks. I use paypal as well. I also offer a few ways to get at least your money back.
THE RULES:
1) The cost is $10.00 [paypal offered]
2) All picks must be made on the CBS web site by 11:30 ET THURSDAY MORNING
3) Pick all games
4) Pick one "BIGGEST BLOWOUT" (INCLUDING THE POINT SPREAD - TIE WILL SPLIT) and email it to vansmack@msn.com by tip-off Thursday.
5) Standings will be available on the Web Site after each game.
6) Points are as follows:
FIRST ROUND WIN: 1 POINT EACH (32 TOTAL)
SECOND ROUND: 2 POINTS (32 TOTAL)
SWEET SIXTEEN: 4 POINTS (32 TOTAL)
ELITE EIGHT: 8 POINTS (32 TOTAL)
FINAL FOUR: 12 POINTS (24 TOTAL)
CHAMPION: 16 POINTS
7) PRIZES:
MOST POINTS: 2/3 POT (TIE SPLITS WHOLE POT)
SECOND POINTS: 1/3 POT
MOST WINS: $10.00
LAST PLACE: $10.00
BIGGEST BLOWOUT: $10.00
PM me an email address or email vansmack@msn.com for an invite.

as i'm organizing the fantasy baseball league, i think i'll defer to someone else on this ... but i am most certainly down for whatever price we decide on (anything $25 and under)
-
ok. . since sonick's paypal is on the fritz. . i'll put it together. . .however, since i'm lazy, i'm gonna use the yahoo point scoring . . .so, big bonuses to people who get the final four right. . .i'll put the info on here in a few minutes. .
$10 a bracket. . .pm me to let me know you're putting in a bracket so i can send out my paypal info. while i'd like all everyone to pay by the end of the week, i'm a reasonable person. . .so, please pay by sweet sixteen. . .i don't want to have send my boyz out to get $10 from ya.
as for the winnings. . .i think last year i did 2/3 for first and 1/3 for second. . .but i'm open to suggestions. . .

I always like the partypoker tourney split
1st: 50%, 2nd: 30%, 3rd: 20%
The brackets are such a crapshoot anyway, I think it's better to cut more from the 1st place finisher.
-
oh, and I think we should make the brackets $5 each ... it will encourage more people to join, and that's all that really matters anyway ... plus you can sign up for multiple brackets on yahoo, right? so you could put in 3 or 4 brackets if you want ...
-

you think we'll have more than 50?
if so, I can be the keeper of the brackets, and Bede can be the holder of the money, so you send your money to him and your bracket to me.
does that work then?

well, yahoo automatically updates the point totals. . .so, no need to have a bracketkeeper, i think.

not really, see. Mankie moved away from America so he doesnt have to be around all the doodles. but as far as we're concerned, he hasnt gone anywhere, he's still posting on this board.

its not the same as a parlay bet. a parlay bet, you must get all bets right to win.
and i guess trying to pick the teams isnt the fun part for everyone.

Nothing against college sports in particular, just jumpy-bouncy in general.
Although....... :D
The college players do go overboard with the celebrations when they haven't actually achieved SHIT. Take College runny-catchy for example....after EVERY single play they're high-fiving, arse-patting, hugging, raise-the-roofing, and all that was achieved was he ran for a 6" gain. I mean...what's up with that??
Oh, and those morons with painted faces and giant foam #1 finger pointing thingies, they just need a good slapping.
Then there's the cheerleaders, at least there is something positive about college sports. ;)

and its actually on campus in our gym ... i'm really surprised ESPN is covering that, they can maybe fit 3,000 into McDonough
and i have no idea how good cal st. fullerton is ... i know their baseball team could kick the shit out of g'towns.

an update, because i know you all care ...
until the late games friday night my bracket was #100 out of 100,000 on cbs sportsline ... my bracket was completely busted after that night though (had cuse in the final 4), but i'm still #1000 overall and leading my 40 bracket at $20 a piece league, and that would be a niice win ...

My wife went 28-5 (I was 25-8) in picking the first round, inclusing 4-2 with underdogs. And we have never watched a college basketball game in 4 years together.

here's a good preview (http://www.hoyasaxa.com/sports/bb-gameday0531.htm)
looks like CSF has five injured players and starts noone taller than 6'7"
sounds like it should be interesting ... although i hope more so than the 64-34 trashing of BU last week ...

I just hope the coach sits all the players down before the game and says:
"And David put his hand in the bag and took out a stone and slung it. And it struck the Philistine on the head, and he fell to the ground."

Why Athletes Can't Have Real Jobs
Chicago Cubs outfielder Andre Dawson on being a role model: "I wan' all dem
kids to do what I do, to look up to me. I wan' all the kids to copulate
me."
New Orleans Saint RB George Rogers when asked about the upcoming season: "I
want to rush for 1,000 or 1,500 yards, whichever comes first."
And, upon hearing Joe Jacobi of the 'Skins say: "I'd run over my own mother
to win the Super Bowl," Matt Millen of the Raiders said: "To win, I'd run
over Joe's Mom, too."
Torrin Polk, University of Houston receiver, on his coach, John Jenkins: "He
treats us like men. He lets us wear earrings."
Football commentator and former player Joe Theismann, 1996: "Nobody in
football should be called a genius. A genius is a guy like Norman
Einstein."
Senior basketball player at the University of Pittsburgh : "I'm going to
graduate on time, no matter how long it takes."
Bill Peterson, a Florida State football coach: "You guys line up
alphabetically by height." And, "You guys pair up in groups of three, then
line up in a circle."
Boxing promoter Dan Duva on Mike Tyson hooking up again with promoter Don
King: "Why would anyone expect him to come out smarter? He went to prison
for three years, not Princeton."
Stu Grimson, Chicago Blackhawks left wing, explaining why he keeps a color
photo of himself above his locker: "That's so when I forget how to spell my
name, I can still find my clothes."
Lou Duva, veteran boxing trainer, on the Spartan training regime of
heavyweight Andrew Golota: "He's a guy who gets up at six o'clock in the
morning regardless of what time it is."
Chuck Nevitt, North Carolina State basketball player, explaining to Coach
Jim Valvano why he appeared nervous at practice: "My sister's expecting a
baby, and I don't know if I'm going to be an uncle or an aunt." (I wonder if
his IQ ever hit room temperature in January)
Frank Layden, Utah Jazz president, on a former player: "I told him, 'Son,
what is it with you? Is it ignorance or apathy?' He said, 'Coach, I don't
know and I don't care.'"
Shelby Metcalf, basketball coach at Texas A&M, recounting what he told a
player who received four F's and one D: "Son, looks to me like you're
spending too much time on one subject."

Nah,they'd take too big a pay cut,and no off season

By the way, the list of injuries is quite disturbing:
One guy has cancer
One guy hasn't played all season because of "multiple concussions"
One guy blew his MCL out last week
One Guy broke his foot the first NIT game
One Guy blew his ACL out last month
That's a bit harsh.

Georgetown 74, Cal State Fullerton 57 3/22/05 11:30 pm
"This is where we practice, this is our real home." --Brandon Bowman
Jeff Green and Brandon Bowman combined for 39 points as the Georgetown Hoyas advanced in NIT play with a 74-57 win over a gritty Cal State Fullerton team at McDonough Gymnasium Tuesday. The first on-campus post-season game in 12 years and the first nationally televised game from the old gym since 1982 drew an overflow crowd of 2,604, although the early box scores credited Georgetown with 6,604.

i think Georgetown should be relegated to Conference USA. i mean really. they arent any better than UCF or UNCC.

i guess it depends on if you win. cause polls are all about talkin' trash...which i kinda get to do this week
-
the fact that two wisconsin teams and two big ten teams in the sixteen has been very, very good for me.
-
the big ten schools are funny
3 in the sweet 16.
Illinois had to beat Farliegh Dickinson and Nevada
Wisconsin got Northen Iowa and Bucknell
and Mich St got Old Dominion and Vermont!!!!
even counting the 3rd round, 8-9 of thier games are against seeds 9 or higher!!!!

That and the Circus was in town.
I'm proud of my boys. They played hard all the way through and never gave up despite being exhausted. The man-to-man was effective in the beginning, but when they got tired, they changed to the zone and got crushed. You haven't heard the last of Fullerton basketball.
Oh yeah, and our gym's much nicer.

Yes, but the point of the tournament is to win, right? that's something that a number of other teams haven't managed, right?
I mean, come on, Bucknell beat Kansas, so they're not the worst team out there...
