Title: Nuggets
Post by: walkman on February 16, 2004, 02:01:00 pm
as a bit of a vinyl junkie, I've come across a guy looking to sell his original pressing of the Nuggets two LP set in near mint condition.  any idea what a fair price would be?  here's lookin' at you, kosmo...

This will give you some idea (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00000AFWZ/qid=1076954993/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_1/103-8182028-2805467) of what they are selling for.

 -Edit-
Damn, my original link didn't work so I had to link only one set. You'll have to click around for the entire set.

don't rightly know... i'm more a vinyl gatherer  than a collector.  when it gets above a certain price point i'll pass and let some other person who will want more than i fork over for it. it's just not worth the cash when i already own it on cd. don't know if i've ever seen the orginial nuggets release.  i would check gemm or possibly goldmine to see what it's going for.

my impression of rare vinyl is that in general prices are skyrocketing. there are those who are touting as an investment kinda of like rare comic books or baseball cards, which is bs because the only people making real money on such things are the dealers who wont pay you nearly what they'll turn around and sell it for.

i thought this was about a rumoured third nuggets boxset which is going to concentrate on contemporary gargage influenced bands.

For a high estimate look at

 Gemm.com

a search for nuggets under title will give you one about half way done on the second page. $35. Which means really its worth about $15..... less if its not mint or EX.

Just go out and buy the CD box set instead.

Post by: walkman on February 16, 2004, 03:39:00 pm
thanks.  looks like the box set goes for about the same price as the vinyl anyway...although I'd love to own those LPs.

(and by the way mark, the item for $35 is the reissue...the first pressing apparently goes for a little more)

If you look for stuff on ebay, you will find that it normally goes for a fraction of the price of GEMM. But they just have the CD listed.

Opalmusic.com is a good place to look up values of more recent  stuff.

With the advent of the DVD music format, I wonder if audiophiles will finally give up on vinyl, leaving it absolutely obsolete?

Post by: kosmo vinyl on February 16, 2004, 06:35:00 pm
don't know about audiophiles but there is still lots of stuff only available on vinyl... audiophiles don't usually care about the music, it's more about how expensive the equipment is and how pure sounding it is...

I just think vinyl's a better overall aesthetic experience.  Audio quality aside, the cover of Sgt. Peppers or Odessey & Oracle are intended to be seen at full LP size.

Minus all of the problems with vinyl, it's a much, much richer sounding product. So much deeper and warmer sounding than any other media as of yet.

Also, the artwork is always so much nicer.

a couple new rhino handmade releases of the nuggets variety....

Hallucinations: Psychedelic Pop Nuggets From The WEA Vaults
Welcome to a brand-new series of Nuggets, which draws on the combined vaults of Warner Bros., Reprise, Atlantic, Atco, Roulette, Jubilee, Loma, Elektra, Cotillion, and Rhino. This particular collection is a cache of major-label psychedelic-pop gems. Obviously, these aren't your average French-bootleg/mumbling-about-Jesus/fuzz-drenched/private-press psych tracks. However, just because these artists were going for mainstream acceptance doesn't mean they weren't also trying to achieve "heavyocity" in their own, artistic way. Just remember, it's a nugget if you dug it. So, let's go!

-- Andrew Sandoval, from his liner notes to this Rhino Handmade release

Hallucinations gathers 24 psych pop treasures released between 1966 and 1969 -- none of them available on Rhino's Nuggets boxed sets. Groovy packaging includes a 22-page booklet with color photos and detailed track notes, as well as a full-color, tri-fold digipak featuring a rotating kaleidoscope wheel.

Hallucinations: Psychedelic Pop Nuggets From The WEA Vaults is available as an individually numbered limited edition of 7,500 copies. Get it at:

 http://www.rhinohandmade.com/browse/ProductLink.lasso?Number=7821 (http://www.rhinohandmade.com/browse/ProductLink.lasso?Number=7821)

Come To The Sunshine: Soft Pop Nuggets From The WEA Vaults

There's an old adage that during the '60s anything seemed possible. Certainly, the unlikely group of middle-aged producers, studio vocalists, and reformed folkies featured on this collection proved this to be true. They sang of sunshine, cotton candy, and, of course, love in a totally irony-free context. One must remember, it was a time when The Mamas & The Papas were actually considered a rock band, and The Association claimed they played "bluer blues than The Rolling Stones." Sure, there were dark days ahead: People got heavy, rock became adult, and the music contained herein was deemed suitable only for those "other adults." Nevertheless, a critical reappraisal of these sophisticated sounds has provided a beautiful afterlife for sunshine pop. It is now widely coveted, collected, and consumed. Heck, nowadays, soft disciples can openly exclaim that "Kites Are Fun" without fear of a hippie hitting them over the head with a bong, and there is no shortage of hipsters who can correctly spell the name of Curt Boettcher. So, join us in the park, at the beach, or wherever your soft dreams usually transpire. We've got a whole lot of rainbows to find!

Wow, I'm glad I bought it early. It's kinda surprising that it sold out so soon, but it was only 2500 copies, after all. I better act quick on the Guadalcanal Diary, also only 2500. I'm also tempted by the Code Blue, which has a wonderfully dated cover.

Are you aware that another label has released "Walking..../Jamboree" as a 2-on-1 disc?  You don't get the bonus tracks that rhinohandmade offers, but  you get all of Jamboree and it's MUCH cheaper.

But it's not remastered, contains minimal liner notes, doesn't include the  Watusi Rodeo EP, and GD's website says that Rhino may be releasing  all of their CDs in limited batches. It may cost a lot more but it's worth it to me.

if you support gay rights . . . then would you want to give money to a company that clearly hates gays?  or is the product more important than the thought?  you are right, i do not know you, but i know what you write.  who would want to know someone that tells people to fuck off because they are trying to stop hatred.

wait a minute . . . i told people to fuck off if they ate there.   now i've confused myself.  nevermind.  don't listen to me . . . like you do anyway.

hopefully now, people who didn't know that chick-fil-a supports anything to do with hating gay people, will not support them anymore with their money.  the end.

and i'm sorry that people nowadays have to "walk on eggshells" when it comes to hating others.  doesn't that suck?  i mean, having to not hate others.  perish the thought.

everyone knows that mcdonald nuggets are the fucking best.  there.  deal with it.  they aren't chicken; that's the key.  when they start adding chicken, the tastes becomes horrible.  and you save chickens too.  plus the hot mustard sauce is the fucking best.  the best you here.  and when you mix it with ranch . . . watch the holy hell out.
