Before you rip my head off for posting this, I looked and didn't see it anywhere on this board.
Bye.
-
YEA! i'll leave your head intact, and give you a kiss on the cheek instead.
-
Awesome, thanks for the info, it made my day.
-
Looks like John Doe is opening.

You are correct. My bad.
-
forum presale, please, seth?
-
yes, please. i'm super psyched for these shows. give the local superfans a chance to buy before the intraweb bots?
-
Wow...that's fucking awesome
-
Seems like to small of a place for them though. I'd love to go to both shows, but if i get shut out of both i'll be crushed.
-
In all seriousness, can there please be a 9:30 presale of some sort? How about an "in person" presale for the locals.
I like my awesome presale idea.
-
Any sort of presale would be awesome. I just fear scalpers getting all these tickets :(
-
correct me if i'm wrong, but if you do the music today presale isn't it will call only? thus making it tough for scalpers since they have no hard tickets...
-
I could be wrong, but normally wilco presales are a very limited number of tickets. So even if that is the case, most tickets will be out there via normal sale. I seem to remember major scalping issues one time before with wilco here
-
the last time wilco played 930 - october 2006, to be exact - there was uber problems getting tickets. the fans, such as myself, who tried to buy tickets at the door saw absolutely huge markups on the tickets. if i remember correctly, face value was around $30. people were forced into paying $100 or more.
i'm hoping ticket karma pays off for the loyal fans who don't do this to other fans.
-
I always wonder who's going to these sold-out shows since the real fans almost never get tickets.

i figured it was mainly jerks who knew than can get $70 bucks out of fans who would wait outside before the show in a desperate attempt for entry. i'd bet most of them don't care about the band at all. it's frustrating.

I love Wilco but the last time they came to 9:30 the show was so over sold it was a miserable experience. So miserable, my husband swore to never go to another Wilco show again. Did anyone else feel this way? Please don't over sell the show again!
-
Wilco is the new DMB.

Then if these 'real fans' can't be arsed to go online and buy tickets when they go on sale then they fully deserve to get ripped off at the door.....not that I think it's being ripped off, it's simple economics 101.
-
they do sell out in like 35 seconds, though
-
i was online within minutes of both the presale and the public sale and i STILL didn't get tickets.
what bothers me are the people who buy extra tickets with full intention of reselling them at the door for astronomical markups. this happened to me for the arcade fire show at DAR. i found a guy on craigslist who sold me two tickets for much more than face value. after i thanked him for the tickets, i said "sorry you can't make the show." he responded, "oh, i'm going. when the show went on sale, me and a friend bought as many tickets as we could, figuring we could make a lot of money." charming.

Don't buy from scalpers. Ever.
I bought 4 tickets to the New Orleans show on March 4. I'll probably end up selling them at face value if anyone is interested.
I'm trying to find out why they haven't been delivered yet.
-
At the risk of sounding like an asshole, you have nobody to blame but yourself. Don't buy from the scalpers and they go away or reduce their prices once they realize their gamble was a bad one.

agreed. i hate to buy from them and i try to get tickets at the original sale as much as possible. however, shows like the arcade fire and wilco sell out quick. sometimes the only option is to go to those selling what they have -- and i negotiate as much as possible.
the problem, of course, is someone out there is almost always willing to pay more than you are. consequently, scalpers will never go away. at the very least, i hope ticket karma catches up to those capitalizing on actual fans.

Last time, for the 10/2006 show, there were two presales ( a "Volume" magazine presale & a Musictoday one) and a public onsale.
-
Has anybody heard anything else regarding the presale?
e.g. presale start time, password, ticket price, etc.
-
Ditto.

I hope you'll go with a Washington Monument theme, a la your thermals poster and like the Heads of State posters for the 2004 and 2006 Wilco shows.
-
God, i'm going to miss the presale because of work. Maybe i can give my students some sort of work sheet and slip out to the computer lab
-
any info on the presale would be money...

Wilco had a Washington Monument poster at their show at the Club back in 2004. I have that one framed. So I'd like to see something different :)
-
Theodore Roosevelt Memorial?
<img src="http://www.russfinley.com/d/14621-1/058-11-003.jpg" alt=" - " />
-
I thought the Wilcoworld pre-sale was today, but I've been looking at the list of pre-sales for the past 20 minutes and the 9:30 Club shows aren't listed?
-
I thought at it was tomorrow, but at the risk of sounding like a moron, the wilco world/presale pages thing confuses me.
-
Hoya's post in this very thread said it was today.

Yeah, I finally found the mention of when the pre-sale starts on wilcoworld.net, and it's tomorrow. They must have corrected the date recently.

They did variations on a theme for both the 2004 & 2006 Wilco shows. El Jefe has also done two Washington Monument posters - Mastodon and the Thermals. I like themes.

I have the blue one framed in my place.
So, the day before the presale and we don't even know what time it starts or how much tix are. Sweet.

Ah, the red one is nice, too. Okay, you convinced me...I'm down for a theme...

while it would be nice to know, does the actual price really matter? based on my limited wilco experience, they charge upper-end prices (~$30), although they probably could ask for more. and wilco fans strike me as relatively rabid, so it's not like the price would keep them away.
-
Over the last 5-6 years, I have seen more fisticuffs at Wilco shows than at all other 9:30 shows combined.
I'm just sayin'....

Listed at $35 on Musictoday. If I remember correctly, they're fees are a little less than ticketmaster.
-
I had to submit sketches so we will see what they choose. One is very DC-centric the others are not. We shall see, they are looking at them now, hopefully I'll hear back soon.

if memory serves, your answer is "yes". i seem to remember that this nike4o1 dude is the same who proudly announced that he scalped smashing pumpkins tickets for big buck$, and that he made thousands of dollars during his college years as a scalper. he seemed to think it was a great thing to do.

The "view recent posts" feature only lists the users most recent 50 posts. Newbies and lurkers, such as yourself, may have fewer than 50, so all of their posts will be listed. Smackie has thousands of posts; the list only goes back to 12/19. If you think that's a search function....

The above poster complimented him on finding a quot from a past conversation of himself and I...seeing that I only have 30ish posts, all on mostly the same topic, it didnt take a genius...

I usually forget how old I am now. Haven't seen Wilco since that show with Sonic Youth so looking forward to this.
-
did anyone get tickets? is worth continuing to try?
-
wow, that was fast. i thought i was on top of it, but as expected tickets sold out in less than a second.
i'll be on a plane tomorrow morning, so i take part in the public onsale. if anyone happens to nab an extra to either show, i'd be very grateful if you'd consider selling it to me. would also happily pay for your drinks at the show. thanks.
-
i hate that website
-
That was awful
-
I screwed something up. I had two and then, once I went to put in my name I didn't have them anymore.
Oh well.
-
I got 2 for Wed. I kinda figured everyone would try Tuesday first so I went for that.
-
I got shut out last time so I consider scoring a pair this time right and just.
And I used the same logic as Mr Jones.
-
i was shut out.
-
got 1 for Tuesday after repeated tries.
-
Also shut out.

locked out. and there are people selling tickets on craigslist right now. awesome.

Keep trying. I just pulled up a set for Tuesday.

I got 2 tickets to the Tuesday show. I tried for Wednesday too but it wouldn't let me get both. I'll try again tomorrow during the public sale.

Yeah, I noticed taht I couldn't pick any up for Wednesday. I'm guessing it was a total ticket limit of two per user?

*grump*

pre-sale now sold out. my bad for giving up so soon... i stopped after 3 or 4 minutes, assuming tickets were all gone by then. stupid me.

Looks like we got the go ahead. Alas, they did not want a DC specific one.

Was there a two ticket limit? Will there be a two ticket limit for the general sale? Is it better for my friend and I to split our three ticket order into two orders?

That seems to be the question of the hour. I assume a link will be available here tomorrow. http://wilcoworld.net/tours/index.php (http://wilcoworld.net/tours/index.php) You can try sending an email to wilcotickets@musictoday.com That's the address given on my confirmation, so they should be able to help.

all 930 club regular onsales are through www.tickets.com (http://www.ticekts.com) - no need to ask wilcoworld, they'll only send you there.

during the wilcoworld presale, one had the option of choosing up to 4 tickets. i'm assuming this meant that the limit was 4... kinda perverse to offer the option of 4 if only 2 is allowed. then again, i guess that would be a self-enforcing way of weeding out the greedy :)
-
Does anyone know why Tickets.com has not listed the show yet (even as upcoming)? The club doesn't have it listed either. Just want to make sure I'm at the right place tomorrow when they go on sale. Thanks...
-
I was able to get 4
-
Yeah...but I think if you placed one order, you couldn't place another, even if it was for the next night. As soon as I got my Tuesday night tickets, I started receiving an error on my Wednesday night window, saying my order allotment had been filled.

With all due respect, tickets.com is pretty weak-ass website.
I seem to remember this before. The show will just "suddenly" be listed on tickets .com at ten tomorrow.
Or maybe noon.
-
I spent ten minutes during work today with no luck. I doubt ill be able to do it tomorrow since i actually have to teach. Fucking hell
-
Would be nice if it was 12. If so, I could get my tickets at the box office and save on service charge. If it's at 10, no doubt they will be sold out by the time the box office opens.

This is true. Why wouldn't the box office and online sales start at the same time? Seems lame and weird.
And it's at ten today.
Wilco on sale at ten am today (http://www.tickets.com/browse.cgi?pgid=2004340)
-
Would be nice, but since this is a high demand show, probably only the first two people will be able to get tickets at the box office if online sales are going on at the same time. What's the point?

Went off with only a small hitch - got tickets for both nights.
-
just snagged 2 for Tuesday. Yeah, man
-
I'm going both nights! Yipee!
-
two tickets to both nights. oh my God i'm so excited.
-
Huzzah! Both nights.
-
Looks like it's sold out now.
-
Sold out. Not sure how I got so unlucky while hitting buy tickets for the past 10 minutes. I got shut out once again. Any extras for somebody who always sells extras for face+ a beer? I will kindly return the favor.

got 2 for sweetcell...!
who wants his CC number? haha!
ok, going shopping now. I believe he has a $1,000 credit limit.

Keep trying.

I got the "ticketing system too busy, unable to process request" message.
So I tried to get a couple of Pogues tickets - same message.
So I tried to get Hives tickets - same message.
So I tried to get a parking ticket for moe (not that I really wanted that) - same message.
Wash, rinse, repeat until about 10:15 when I was able to get the Pogues and Hives tickets.

I know you're right. Maybe I'm a little too idealistic but is it totally unreasonable to think that the box office could pull 100 or so tickets and sell them (2 a person or so) to the first 50 people in line?
Either way I'm going both nights.

After trying frantically for 18 minutes for two Thursdays I was able to snag a single Tuesday. If I never hear a mouse click again I will be happy.

You could always switch between F5 and clicking. It'll be hard to never hear a mouse-click again.

What Thursday show were you trying for?

I got shut out for both nights during the pre-sale and both nights again today. Very frustrating not being able to see my favorite band in DC. If anyone has a single ticket for either night that they can't use please let me know.

It sounds to me like everyone who was on at precisely 10 got what they needed. I got 1 wednesday.

Actually I was on at 9:58 both mornings and was completely shut out.

Got one ticket for both nights!
-
Doesn't Wilco do a fairly standard set? I think those who bought for both nights are going to end up getting less of an experience.
I was seeking three for one night. I couldn't get them for the first couple of minutes, then changed my order to one, and got it. Then on the same order, I went back and chose to buy for another show, but chose two more tickets for the same night.
Does anybody have experience with tickets for two different shows (in my case not really, but it might be looked at that way) on the same order? Will they all come in one envelope in the mail?
-
I figured with these shows coming shortly after their 5 night stand in Chicago where they pledged to go into the depths of their back catalog they would be more apt to have some setlist variety over the two nights.
-
Normally I'd agree. But between how killer their Merriweather show was, and the fact that Tweedy just had the new line-up learn the older songs for that 5-night run in Chicago, I'm optimistic for a killer set list each night with a bunch of older songs.

The tickets will come in the same envelope, if they were indeed part of the same order. I think you save a couple dollars in mailing costs if you order them together too.
I went to see Wilco on both nights when they played the 9:30 Club a couple years ago, and I was very glad I did. There was plenty of variation in the set lists as I recall.
-
Last time they played back-to-back nights at the 9:30, both sets were 27 songs. 15 songs were played on both nights.

Wow, I see Casino Queen was played alot on the last half of 07...
-
Given that they have already done a Sky Blue Sky tour and they are coming off those shows in Chicago where they play their whole catalog, I think there is a good chance they'll play a lot of stuff they haven't played in a while.
-
Pro: Sky Blue Sky's mediocrity will drive away the fair weather fans.
Con: The hardcore fans have to listen to live songs from Sky Blue Sky.
It's really a Catch-22. Sky Blue Sky was the first record I've ever wanted to return after listening to it.
-
And here I was thinking it was Wilco's best, and the best album of 2007, period. And Wilco and I go all the way back to me seeing them at the F Street 9:30 Club. Silly me.
Why didn't you care for it?

Despite what it might look like, I'm not trying to crap on Wilco. (I apologize if it seemed like that.) I own everything they've released, and I went to one of those sold-out October shows. I used to be a big fan.

It just struck me as so bland, so lacking in any spark or fire. Like a musical representation of that washed-out grayscale cover.
There was a time I would've been first in line. As it is, I didn't know about this tour, this show, or this sale. Kinda sad.
Not sure why I felt the need to share my Wilco disillusionment. ;) I hope everyone (who got tickets) has a great time at the show.

Since when is bland necessarily a bad thing? I mean both vanilla and chocolate ice cream are pretty bland. But when done right, they fucking rock.

I also found it disappointing. Mainly because I was expecting something totally different and more aurally engaging/challenging from this lineup.
Isn't there a Jim O'Rourke mix of Sky Blue Sky under wraps somewhere? I'd love to hear how that sounds.

#1. Music isn't ice cream. Do you typically equate art with food products? ;)
#2. I really wish they'd "done Sky Blue Sky right." 'Cause then it would rock.

The Post ranks the Wilco albums:
1. "Summerteeth" (1999) The album that bears the least resemblance to any other in the catalogue is the best. Their third effort was the first that first helped the band shed the alt-country tag, with Tweedy showing his diversity of songwriting styles and Jay Bennett doing his best Brian Wilson impression with his obsessive attention to detail (remember those scenes in "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart"?) resulting in an immaculately produced album. Many of Tweedy's best pop songs can be found here ("Can't Stand It," "I'm Always In Love," "Candy Floss") but some foreboding folk tunes ("She's a Jar," "How to Fight Loneliness," "Via Chicago") add a dark touch. Even the sinister songs have a warmth and brightness to them, though. This was the album where the band's creativity and confidence met at the perfect intersection, resulting in a true classic.
2. "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" (2002) Its legend doesn't quite match its legacy, but Wilco's breakthrough album remains a mesmerizing listen. You might remember that during recording the band butted heads with then label Reprise, ended up becoming free agents, released the album on the Internet for free (this was back in 2001, mind you) and became indie cause celebres. The album signaled a new direction for the band, with pop obsessive Bennett giving way to noted Chicago producer Jim O'Rourke, who gave the album a claustrophobic, slippery feel. The drums, guitars and vocals are all very processed; it's a long way from the rugged, rustic feel of the band's first few efforts. A couple of epics ("I Am Trying to Break Your Heart," "Ashes of American Flags") are the clear standouts, but "Jesus, Etc.," "Kamera" and "War on War" are also worthy of the Wilco canon, showcasing a nuance in songcraft that wasn't previously there.
3. "Being There" (1996) Like all double albums it could certainly use some trimming, but this is Wilco delivering some of its most pleasing, straightforward rock-and-roll. The back-to-back of "Monday" and "Outtasite (Outta Mind)" is nothing but fun, which you can't really say about much of the band's later work. Twangy moments like "Forget the Flowers" and "What's the World Got In Store" don't have much depth but are enjoyable and breezy. "Being There" doesn't have the range of styles and emotions found on later albums but shows that Wilco did the roots rock thing as well as anyone.
4. "A Ghost Is Born" (2004) This was the first Wilco album that didn't feel like a new direction for the band; it was more a sequel to "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot." It's the first album without any input from original guitarist Bennett and you can certainly hear Tweedy pushing the band further away from alt-countryville on the kraut-rock influenced "Spiders (Kidsmoke)" and spacey "Hell Is Chrome." The catchiest songs ("Company In My Back" and "Theologians") are actually kind of annoying with their insistent "McCartney Bounce." The band deserves credit for mixing it up, though, and the stoned shuffle of "Handshake Drugs" makes for one of Wilco's finest moments.
5. "Sky Blue Sky" (2007) Yawn. It's one thing to retreat from the experimental tendencies that were starting to alienate some longtime fans. But I found myself longing for the hit-or-miss nature of "A Ghost Is Born" after spending some time with the agreeable-but-pretty-boring material on "Sky Blue Sky." Yacht rock, dad rock, Volkswagen rock - call it what you will, although "rock" might not be the most accurate descriptor. Guitarist Nels Cline provides many of the highlights - his nimble playing on "Impossible Germany" is particularly entrancing. But his virtuosic talents almost serve as a crutch, with the songs sort of floating along until it's time for Cline to rip off another impressive solo. It's ideal background music, but not much more.
6. "A.M." (1995) When Wilco announced its intention to play every song from its back catalog during the five-night stand in Chicago it was most surprising because that meant revisiting "A.M." in its entirety. It's not a bad album, it just has more than its share of by-the-numbers roots rock, the kind that most bands who play at Iota on Friday night could pull off reasonably well. It starts off very strong with "I Must Be High," "Casino Queen" and "Box Full of Letters," but never reaches that level again.

i commented earlier on that post-rock thread but it didn't seem to go through
hard to put AM at the bottom, so many classic tracks on there and they sound "limber", like they're actually having fun while making the album
"i've been gamblin like a fiend / on your tables so green..."

all i know is i listen to a.m. way more than ghost
-
1) YHF
2) Being There
3) ST
4) AGIB/SBS (Tie)
5) AM
-
I think the only reason it gets lumped by most as the weakest album is because it's not really a surprising album. The songs are straight-forward with no frills. Still, I find myself playing AM more than most of the other records...or at least wanted to hear it more often.

As someone who saw Wilco at the old 9:30 Club in 1995, and who has seen a number of Friday Night Iota bands, I'm going to have to disagree with them. Wilco 1995 was better than anyone who I've ever seen at Iota.

and, in other news, Wilco is scheduled to play Saturday Night Live this weekend (3/01).

:)

Wow. I guess all of Jeff Tweedy's talk over the past year about being frustrated with Yankee Hotel Foxtrot lately is pretty true. That was some serious country-fried Wilco. Very good show, but it felt like this band's goal is now to turn almost everything in their catalog into something off Being There. Of course, if that means sets ending like this:
Red-Eyed and Blue
I Got You (At the End of the Century)
Monday
Outtamind (Outtasite)
then I'm pretty cool with that. What a run they pulled off there.
I wonder if tomorrow is gonna be the same sort of show, or if they saved up all the noise-rock shenanigans for one show. I'm very much wishing I bought tickets for both nights now.

Amazing. They blew me away. Can anybody help me with some more board cliches?
Definitely ranked among the best Wilco shows I've seen. I want to say the best, but how can you compare the Wilco of today with the Wilco of 1995? Sure, maybe they're headed back in the direction, but it still seems like a different band.
And thanks to the chubby, dark haired beauty behind me. Your off-key and incredibly loud singing was so fucking pretty. You even managed to drown out Jeff's singing in my ears quite a bit. And your shouts of "Tweee-dy, Tweeee-dy"...very creative! Thanks for enhancing my show experience!
-
I thought I saw you as I was heading out last night, but the crowd was a little too stifling for me to try to say hello.
I was wonder what your taken would be several times through the show, especially with comparing the former line-up with the current on. As a relatively new fan (probably only been listening for 8 or 9 years, I guess), I'm shocked by how fierce they can be, but also how mellow and downright pretty. Still, I could see how someone would prefer the more straight-ahead approach of the line-up that (I'm guessing) you saw. Glad to hear you liked it...I'd worry if you didn't :D
By the way, does the second guitarist/keyboardist annoy anyone else? I get it, you like to windmill and hold the guitar at funny angles. Too bad your stuck to the side of the stage for a reason...

It looked like Brendan Canty's film crew was there. I know they did Tweedy's solo dvd and I really like their Burn to Shine discs. I hope something good comes out of that footage, it was probably the best I've ever seen them. The horns took some of the sky blue sky songs to the next level and the ending to the main set was amazing.
-
really, really good show. one of the most consistently excellent wilco shows i've seen over the past few years. the last four songs of the main set were perfect. give tweedy credit, he knows how to hire -- nels cline and glen kotche have got some serious skills and only seem to get better. although that extra guitarist/keyboardist is definitely a major tool.

Were you near those two incredible tall guys? I was directly behind the one in orange, and man, he had to be at least two heads taller than I am. The odd part was that they weren't related; they never spoke and went their separate ways afterwards. What are the odds that two guys that tall would stand right next to each other???

we were behind one guy in plaid (who i named jebidiah) and another tall guy in a blue/white plaid (dubbed Aloysius) and a shorter dude who took off his jacket to reveal a...plaid shirt. But one woven with silver lame threads! not kidding. we dubbed him "Snorky Pete" because his hat made him look like a snork. Jeb and Snorky were holding three beers each. at once. minium. sometimes 4.
Jebidiah sang along with a voice that sounded like 'buffalo bill' from silence of the lambs if he sang into a large, empty can of Chock full O nuts.
Someone warned my friend sean that jeb was about to pass out any second. which he may have. he went away and never came back....which left room for a gross make-out couple.

I wouldn't call it the best Wilco show I've seen, but it was very enjoyable. Better than the last couple of shows for sure. I agree that the run toward the end of the first set was absolutely spectacular. The encores couldn't match it and were a bit of let-down in comparison.
Just once I'd like to attend a Wilco show without hearing "Heavy Metal Drummer". I'm just really tired of that song. I think the band is too. Last night's rendition wasn't their best. Maybe tonight they'll play something different? Probably not. It's such a staple.

yeah, seriously. i couldn't believe THAT was the one someone shouted out on a night when pretty much everything in their catalogue was fair game. i think "a shot in the arm" is the other one that rarely gets a night off, but that's a better song.
-
was there a poster at the show?
-
yah, both a tour poster and a DC poster. 25 bucks though
Im leaving in about an hour to be front of the line to get in tonight
-
Why not just get there late and push your way to the front, like some groups of women think they have a right to do?

I went from row 2 in front of Jeff to about row 4 near the horns last night between John Doe and Wilco. Those people suck. It's different if its one person meeting a group, but when people just do it to push up...shitty

Someone up in the DJ booth area yelled it.

JFdL's blog predictions... yeah, you can take that stuff to the bank.

ELT was cut for Via Chicago...
Hoodoo Voodoo and The Lonely 1 were also on the setlist, instead they played California Stars and Monday
-
I listened to the first hour last night. Sounded like their noisier edge was completely gone.
Bummer if you ask me.
Happy I sold my ticket. The person who bought it definitely enjoyed the show more than I would've; that's for sure.
-
Noise, noise, noise. Aren't there enough shitty noise bands out there for you to choose from? Better yet, aren't there enough construction sites in DC where you could stand around and listen to the noise? Why should the best rock band going be reduced to playing noise? :p

Anybody have any comparisons of night 1 and night 2? Looking at the setlist, I think I might have liked Wed even better than Tues, had I gone to both.
-
Musically, I thought they were right on both nights. Nels seemed to spaz out on solos a bit more last night (including accidentally launching his glass slide into the front row...ouch). They definitely didn't rock as hard, but that was more to song selection than playing.
Still, night 2 gets my vote, for two reasons:
1) 30 extra minutes (and no cheating with a jammed out Kidsmoke), and
2) Box Full of Letters -> Always In Love.
And to further my win in Hipster Bingo, the crowd was much less crushing last night. I had a ton of breathing room, and never had the rush of people to fill every spot around me. In fact, I had people ask nicely to move ahead, and when I told them there really wasn't room, they backed off. That was nice.

i agree. tuesday was full of characters, but last night there was breathing room. and a weirdly short crowd! i had no problem seeing everything.
also, i thought the pacing was more leisurely last night than tuesday which was just crushing. in the best possible rock & roll way.
-
I'll go with last night as the better of the two concerts. First off, the energy started off slower than Tuesday night but it kept building and it maxed out with the final song of the last encore, which is exactly how I like my concerts to go, unlike Tuesday when the show crescendoed before the first encore. Last night, both encores kicked ass. Secondly, no "Heavy Metal Drummer"! It's like they were reading this thread and saw my post from yesterday. Last night was my 8th Wilco show, and it was the first one without "Heavy Metal Drummer." Hallelujah! No, seriously, I do think the set list was a little better the second night. As for the lack of noise, they saved it almost all up for "Via Chicago," which was spectacular. I'm really glad they went with that instead of "ELT".
-
Nels appeared to be possessed last night.
-
My friend and I were speculating on how much variation there'd be between nights. I told him I'd be happy with 25% different songs. Turns out it was 55%. That's a pretty staggering number, in my opinion...as long as I'm not mathematically challenged.
Well worth going both nights.
-
Listening on NPR last night I was glad I didn't go two nights...for me it seemed to be lots of the same songs (I wouldn't have guessed only 45%, though) and I've seen them play box full of letters/i'm always in love before (although they're two of my favorites and definitely would have loved them on Tues). I was actually expecting them to vary it even more after the chicago run.
I didn't realize till this morning but I think I would have been most happy to hear That's Not the Issue. Do they play that any more?
-
Thought the shows were great.
Thought first night was better than the second night
Last night was, without a doubt, the most crowded I have ever seen it in ten years of seeing shows there.
Do they need to play Walken and Hummingbird both nights? How about one of the 50 other tunes they have in their catalog that they didn't play?
The song is called "Its Just that Simple" not "Its not the Issue"
-
"That's Not the Issue" is the song before "It's Just that Simple."

Indeed it is.
Someone had the name wrong for "Its Just that Simple" last night... caling it something similar to "...not the Issue".

Clearly you were not at the Lupe Fiasco show - I think they sold that show out twice. It was ridiculous.
But I agree, night 1 was better, but both were great.
-
Wouldn't people be predisposed to thinking the first night was better?
If you're hearing 45% of the same songs the second night, presumably you're not going to be as excited about those songs the second time around.

Good point.
I think the performance was a little stronger 1st night though.
-
I disagree with that statement, but to each his own....
-
does anyone know if some kind soul took the NPR recording and carved it up into individual mp3's (like the last time?)
-
Agreed. Though it would have been nice to hear the A.M. songs. *sigh*
I was very impressed with Keren Ann's show at the Black Cat, though...

After listening to the NPR stream of the Wed show, I'll stick with preferring the one I went to. Though that could just be because I was there instead of listening to an archive of the Wed show.
And I'll take that Tuesday run of four songs from Being There over anything they did Wed, including the AM songs, by a nose. For one brief time period, hearing those four songs transported me back to being 29 instead of 40.
I probably didn't give Keren Ann or Dean and Britta a fair shot. They didn't stand a chance having to follow up the night after Tuesday's Wilco show.

Red Eyed and Blue into I Got You (at the end of the century) made me really happy on Tuesday.
I skipped Karen, Dean, and Britta and stayed home listening to the wed night stream.
