Title: News from Jeff Mangum!
Post by: amnesiac on June 27, 2006, 11:15:00 am
If this is true, I'll be going wherever they play...

 Via  E6 Townhall (http://www.e6townhall.com/viewthread.php?tid=6592&page=1):

 hello again.

for the past few months ive been putting together the pieces of everything ive written in the past three years and its been a revelation. whenever i had the time ive been writing melodies and keeping them in my head for later, and songs just accumulate, im not waiting as some have said. i still dont know how we??re going to put it all together, the songs will have more noises and collages in them. because of that we dont know whether this will be korena pang or neutral milk hotel or michael bolton but that doesnt really matter. names are just a box we put things in to separate them, and we??re figuring out what box these songs go in.

we dont have a timetable for releasing the album yet, so dont get your hopes up for new songs now. if you want more ??aeroplane? just ignore all of this, the songs are songs but they??re longer and more free. when jeremy came down after his tour we just spent days playing noise while screaming and it was incredibly liberating.

it has been so much fun that we will for sure be playing a show or two, probably more. freedom is a wonderful thing but at a certain point you need the routines of normal life. ive had that for a while but i realized last year at the show with the livys that the best sort of normal ive ever had was on the road with my friends. getting to gigs late with cars coughing and trombones smacking on doors, the giant egg leaks over the masses, the yolk sustains us, we eat whites for days. it can never be the same but i need to get as close as i can to that again.

so thats all. everything is happening soon, this is the year.
 thanks for listening. jeff.

Update via Pitchfork:

However, according to Robert Schneider, Apples in Stereo frontman and Mangum's close friend, Mangum confirmed that he did NOT author the post.

Pitchfork just got off the phone with Schneider, so stay tuned for more details.

Update: Mangum Disavows Web Post About New Music
 Neutral Milk Hotel

 Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.
Updating a story first posted here yesterday (June 27), Neutral Milk Hotel principal Jeff Mangum has disavowed a Web posting attributed to him, which falsely referenced the progress on the reclusive artist's first new album since 1998's iconic "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea."

Longtime collaborator Robert Schneider, who fronts the Apples In Stereo, reached out to Mangum in an attempt to verify the posting, which was made on a Web site devoted to the Elephant 6 musical collective. Schneider then posted Mangum's reply on the site, which reads, "I am sorry to inform you that this is not my post. Could you please inform the good people ... that this is not my writing?"

Schneider's manager confirmed for Billboard.com the authenticity of Schneider's post and Mangum's reply.

Hey, Jeff Mangum thread. Been quite a while. Here's an addition to you.

He still sounds in top form. Even more excited for Baltimore and NYC.
The whole show is on Dime! (http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=369523)

i thought he sounded like some eighties porn star with a cheesy mustache and dripping wet chest hair as he exits a pool.  that's what i thought.

I sure do like Magnum ice cream bars.

Although I'm almost positive the ones you buy on the street in Europe are larger than the ones in the frozen desserts aisle at Giant.

Also, if anyone's interested in two tickets (face plus fees) for one of the NYC Town Hall shows, let me know.  Picked up two, but with the two Bmore shows, I'm bailing on it.

Has anyone seen his solo show?  Is it worth it or is it just a bunch of people hoping to relive the legacy of NMH?

If you don't know/don't care about Jeff Mangum, there may be more productive uses of your time than hanging out posting messages in a thread about Jeff Mangum.

Went to the Baltimore show last night.  The show was incredible, maybe the best show I've ever been to.  The Music Tapes opened up and were also incredible.  The only downside was 2640 Space - mainly because it has no AC and it was insanely humid yesterday, so it was basically a sweatbox.

Did The Music Tapes bring their 7' tall metronome? Theyre a fun band. Julian's dad was at the show in NYC and their set was really awesome. Supposedly Mangum was there. (this was an olivia tremor control show).
