Title: In a galaxy not to far from here...
Post by: kosmo vinyl on February 17, 2004, 03:44:00 pm
While at the Galaxy Hut this weekend I chatted with the bartender who is in charge of booking Hump Night, about the possibility of djing there some future Wednesday night.  Lary said he could find me a slot as long as I could promise to bring in warm bodies to fill the seats during my set.

So can I count on any of the forumites to trek out to Arlington for a midweek evening of drinks and good music?  Seeing as dosen't take many people to make the Galaxy Hut look busy,  all that is needed is a few good drinking loons to make it work.

Many of you have a good idea what I spin on regular basis, but feel free to check out the tracklistings (http://www.hi-fipop.com/mixedup.html)  of my most recent mixed cds for a better picture.

Well if I have to drive it will be diet pepsi only for me. I guess the other half can drink my share. Do they have edible food?

Count us in, as long as its not a big show night.

It's pretty much right across from Iota.  I may drive, nonetheless, as it's a school night and I should keep it to one or two pints...

Try for May 12, and I'll make it an "the bitch is *really* old" celebration.  Though I am blessed with a Friday birthday this year!

Interesting, I was trying to organize a Bigyawn staff meeting for that night. Maybe I'll have it there. Would be a couple reasons for some of the board folks to come out.

All of you not going skiing or conferencing on the 3rd pull your calendars out and mark down Hump Night with DJ Wren at the Galaxy Hut in Arlington, March 3rd.  Haven't decided what I'll spin, but hopefully those attending wont hate everything.  Post requests here, via PM, email or sign my  guestbook (http://www.hi-fipop.com/gb/guestbook.html).

I'm thinking a little warm up for the Cooper Temple Clause show might be in order.  Kosmette will there ponying up for a couple pitchers to those drinking.

that's awesome!  I've been going to the Hut on Wednesdays for years now... Lary's a really nice guy and the changing djays brings some really good (and some really bad) music in.  (Worst DJ's have played ambient/white noise/whatthehellwasthat music, but the rest are pretty good.)

FYI-- they do have food, but the kitchen usually closes around 11.
FYI2-- when they say DJ, it's a loose interpretation.  Lary doesn't check your equipment before booking, so I've seen folks "spin" from two discmen, from an iPod setlist, from a notebook computer setlist, I think once one guy just had one discman.

Bags, Grandaddy at the Warfield that night.  Smackette and I will be there.  That could save you from an early death.

I'll catch up with you guys one of these years. Maybe Huey Lewis and Corey Hart will do a tour and you guys could meet me there.   ;)

Ummm... you're taking a group of 10 to the Hut??  Have you been there before?  The whole place fits like 40 people max and the tables are usually all taken... and the biggest table probably seats 6, 8 if you're lucky...

Smack, Grandaddy is not high on my list...okay, they're not on my list at all.  I don't get 'em.  And I may have dinner with cousins that night...I was thinking of the Jackson show, but don't know if I'll hit anything.  But if I'm free, I may go out just to go out!

well even if he was drinking water at the galaxy hut theres no guarantee he'd be  safe (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A23661-2004Mar2.html)

I believe there are little bits of pooh-pooh floating around in DC tap-water, it counters the taste of lead evidently.

I can't read the wash post link about MoCo water because I refuse to register with them.

Thank heavens for Brita though, we've used it for years in our house.

Us, too...and in Chicago, which until recently had a great supply of water...I don't know why folks just don't go buy these. It says it takes care of 98% of the lead. I'd never regularly drink unfiltered water from any city source (or probably any source for that matter)

People at work drink water from the water fountains next to the bathrooms - blech! I keep a Brita at my desk. The purifier at home purifies vs. filters the water (so my brother tells me).

I've heard about this in NY (someone was just talking about it), but didn't know it had hit the DC area....hmmmm.  Could make for an awesome forum "battle of the ipods" night.

And I like this from the article:  "Inspired by "No Wax" at London's trendy dreambagsjaguarshoes and Andrew/Andrew's "iParty" at New York's APT lounge, The Cricklewood Massive
presents "iPod Jukebox" at Galaxy Hut on April 28. "iPod Jukebox" is an open DJ night that replaces the turntables with portable MP3 players. No vinyl. No CDs. No kidding."

I love the name of the trendy dj night dreambagsjaguarshoes -- it's like a fun amalgam of forum members...   :D

Uh oh, it's like the folks on that DJ board (where Dupek sources the article from) know we're coming:

"just think of the average person you see with an ipod (i'll exclude myself, i'm obviously not average), and think about what kind of music they listen to on it. i guess there's no way to really know but i imagine a guest ipod dj night would be bloody horrible...full of wierd indie rock almost emo music that you would hear on a volkswagon commercial."
