Title: New Years Eve Plans
Post by: Truckher on December 22, 2004, 06:22:00 pm
Are there any happening venues that any of you can recommend for New Years Eve?  Just found out a couple of girlfriends are coming to town and I'm still pretty new to the area.  I prefer the kind of music they play at The 18th Street Lounge (what do people label that kind of music anyway i.e. Kruder & Dorfmeister mixes for example), but heck, it's New Years so I'd be willing to check out any venue where debauchery will ensue.  Okay, maybe not debauchery, but dancing and lots of cute men for my friends.  And a 30 something crowd.  And not too Shi-shi.  Your advice is greatly appreciated.  And sorry if this is a spent topic.  Recently joined.

It's generally called Downtempo.  I'm sure Chi Cha would have something nice for New Years.

a quick glance seemed to mention a semi-private party and a $99 cover?  no thanks!  Asylum or St. Ex, on the other hand, are free of charge.

you crazy forum-ers; able to change people's quotes when you respond to them.  i will learn how to do that, if it kills me.

for a good time in dc on new years, just head down to 14 and k, strip naked, and exclaim:  male hookers need love too.

then let the good times roll.

Good for you. I'll just stay home and watch a DVD with my girl.

oh rob; so eager to impress; so lifeless, it's a depress.

i've had plenty of both, and dvds and girlfriends are for people under their spines of snatched control.  enjoy 'em while they are new, return them when they are used.  have fun at home!  hope the rating system still is in place.

Could anyone who posts on this board actually afford to get drunk at St. Ex?

If I were in Chicago tomorrow night, it would be a no-brainer: Bobby Bare Jr. at Schuba's. Bobby puts on an outstanding show, and Schuba's is a great place. And at $15, what a bargain. Alas, it's sold out.

But he'll be at Iota on January 31.

How's asylum?  I was thinking of going for new years, but have never been there before.  Sounds pretty cool though.

on NYE?

are you going to the GBV show?

perhaps not.  I think Local H and Detroit Cobras are playing at the Double Door on Milwaukee Ave.  or i know, i have a flyer, tickets are $55.  :)

yep, flying out tomorrow morning.

i would've done GBV, but the people i'm with aren't into that scene.

and i know about the detroit cobras show. my friend i'm staying with actually lives a block away from the double door, so my plan is to get everyone trashed enough to persuade them to walk down 500 feet to hear some "good ol' motor city rock 'n roll". let's see what comes of it...

It's pretty chill usually with an unpretentious laid-back crowd.  Here's some info:

Is anyone else still hungover from New Year's Eve (like me)?

I'm not going near shots of Jagermeister again - I don't care if (like this past time) it is someone's birthday or not.  ;)

 Cheers

 DJ Medusa.

as one who was "smart" enough to go to gbv's last show, i was rewarded with an absolutely f*cking amazing experience.  gbv played for 3.5+ hours and dusted off a lot of tracks from the older albums. the crowd was filled with hardcore gbv fans from way back and it definitely was the place to be on nye, in chicago or otherwise.
