Right of passage.....
For what it's worth, 9 times out of 10, the LSAT will not beat you, you will beat yourself.
Go in positive, come out positive; stay relaxed, be rewarded. That's the best advice I can give you.
-
thanks vansmack ... i heeded your advice and got a motherfucking 160 on the december test ... time to jump in front of a metro car!

irrational suicides wait for no man!!

bad taste suicide jokes aside ... anyone here go/went to law school in DC?
I was hoping on georgetown or GW, but i'm thinking more along the lines of george mason / american now ...
-
Why are you going to law school? Granted, lawyers make a lot of money, but they work long hours, have no quality of life (until they're 50 and can't enjoy it), and worst of all, the legal profession is one of the few professions that has a net negative effect on national productivity rather than a positive effect.
-
I went to court in DC once.

because i want to get a professional degree, and law just makes sense. i'm an analytical person.
unless someone can get me a job with spin/rolling stone ....

Unless it's changed since I took it, most test takers score between 145 and 159. A score of 160 is not a bad score at all.

You can do a lot with a law degree that allows you to maintain a splendid quality of life, and not work the ridulous hours.

It was my law degree that led me to Ben Fong-Torres. It will open doors for you if you allow it.

The legal profession is expanding at an exponential rate. By the year 2030 everyone in America will be lawyers at birth.

25% - 75% of acceptees:
gtown: 167-170
gw: 162-16something
i'll be lucky to get into GW... very lucky...
-
i went to mason. never bothered applying to any of the dc schools for financial reasons. mason also was geared toward the area of the law in which i wanted to practice.
i believe my lsat was around 160 as well.
-
A friend of mine got a 163 and was wait listed at Georgetown. She was unwilling to apply to GW though, since it's rather expensive for a not so good school

Watch Law & Order marathons instead.

Is a "right of passage" something particular to those living on the West Coast? Is it the same thing as a "rite of passage", or is it something altogether different?

a friend of mine got around the same score you did, within a couple of points. he didn't get into g'town. he got into GW. he's in his second year and just accepted a job at a firm that will be paying him $2,400/week. so i think you'll probably end up doing just fine.
but then again, he is like 1/8th hispanic, so that may have helped him out.
-
160 is good enough to get you into uva or william & mary...
georgetown is a great school - but fuck d.c. it's a shithole, in case you haven't noticed.
the best thing about d.c. is the bulletproof drive-thru windows @ taco bell - at least you can be sure the employees won't shoot you.

LOL. the Golden Rule, if you don't have enough evidence you can always cut a deal for "man 1" :)

So education, in your opinion, is defined as 'making money'?

oh yeah, i'm going to law school as this grand intellectual academic exercise ... won't it be great to know all about torts and con-law?!
i'm actually not even planning on getting a job afterwards, i'll just apply for unemployment benefits and wallow in my debt.
-
If there's one thing America doesn't yet have enough of, then it's surely more lawyers. Good choice!

The point is, that if you're going to spend $150,000 dollars on an education, you'd better have some way of paying it off later... be it a job at a firm, or a good public interest job with a loan forgiveness program from your school.

I'd always heard that law was the study of language. If you're in law for any other reason, then you're really not getting "An Education"...you're merely getting lessons on how to make money.

if that was entirely true, we wouldn't have lawyers on here talking about "rights of passage" would we ;)

Believe me, if you finish law school you'll get an education whether you make money afterwards or not.

I'm sorry. You'll never make it as a lawyer if you're just gonna go ahead and admit that you're wrong! Claim temporary insanity or something... that usually works.

Fun discussion.
Hoya - as one of the board's "scum of the earth" lawyers (and one that went to that untowardly expensive lawschool known as GW)I can tell you that a career in the law can be interesting, lucrative, and beneficial to society ans still allow you time and flexibility to go to 9:30 club shows from time to time.
It does not really matter where you go to law school if you want to practice law. If you want to get out of school and make around $200k to start, then it matters where you go to law school, but those folks have a pretty low quality of life for at least the first 10 years of their careers, and they are almost exclusively doing behind the scenes work for large corporations as opposed to helping the little guy.

Speaking of Law & Order, various news outlets are reporting that Jerry Orbach (aka Lenny Briscoe) died last night.
-
I read that as well. That's sad. He was going to start an new show from the creators of Law & Order.

hoya: i'm a '97 GULC grad. if you want info on Georgetown or law school in general shoot me a message and we can talk offline. 160 isnt a bad score, but would be tough to get into GU unless you have really good grades. in any event you should tier your applications so you end up with some choices.
-
just what this town need more dam lawyers... wonderful
-
okok, all honesty. i got a 163. i was waitlisted to georgetown. and it looks like i'll probably be going to northeastern this fall. look for me on the tt the bear's mailing list... :p

Good luck and congrats on Northeastern... great public interest programs. Georgetown seems like a hellhole.
