Jude376's post about a band being from his region and not knowing about it inspired me to think about this.
Who is the best band or solo artist from your hometown?
Mine would seem obvious, being that I'm from Anaheim, that it would have to be No Doubt. But I would say that the little known fact that Jeff Buckley was born and raised in Anaheim makes him the best musician from Anaheim, hands down.

Baltimore has:
<img src="http://aces.tabulas.com/norman/cover_hatebeek.jpg" alt=" - " />
-
Hell yeah.
There's not a lot of local Sykesville bands, so I'd choose either Marshall Slaw or Compression. But since I lost their homemade cassettes probably 10 years ago, they might not be as good as I remember them...

Hometown is Santa Rosa, California...
I would say The Velvet Teen.
-
Sarasota, FL: Hot Water Music or Against Me!
(both of which are "technically" from Gainesville, FL, but both have band members who went to my high school in SRQ)
-
I don't think anyone is from my specific hometown, but Ted Leo hails from the adjacent town of Bloomfield, N.J.
-
Novato, California (in Marin County)
Huey Lewis & the News
Metallica - San Rafael, CA and Novato, CA (at least some of them live there now)
En Vogue - Novato (or so I had heard)
hmmm guess the best is Huey Lewis :)
-
karl hendricks
-
I grew up in rural upstate NY. The Figgs are from the nearest town, Saratoga Springs.
-
karl hendricks
How's the cat?
-
Glen Ellyn, IL: Billy Corgan
I guess technically he grew up in Glendale Heights, but his step parents live there now and he went to my high school for a year. So I'm claiming him.
-
My mind is blanking out but just a few.
(Baltimore)
Billy Holiday
Cab Calloway
Chick Webb
David Byrne
Though I'm not a fan in the least, I bet that Hoya would want to add TuPac(sp?) and Cisco to my list.
-

Sisqo?? the "thong song" guy from Dru Hill?? ... i'm truly offended that you'd think i like Sisqo
2pac, on the other hand ...
-
STORY OF THE YEAR!!!!!!
or Son Volt, Wilco would be a stretch since they turned their back on the St. Louis area for Chicago, both are actually from Belleville, IL (just outside of STL), but Farrar now lives in St. Louis
or Chuck Berry
-
Buffalo-- Ani Difranco and moe.
And I'll throw old Goo Goo Dolls in there for good measure, but not newer Dolls.

LOL. Sorry....but, you do know how to spell his name correctly. Better yet, you, a Floridian living in DC, know that he was from Druid Hill. Even I didn't know that.

What about Roy Buccanon? Or was he from out closer to Frederick?
-
Dave Grohl lived around here for a while, but his parents currently reside in Bethesda, so I think that's what I'm going to take. For now.
Spike Jonze graduated from my high school...can he count, anyway? He's dated enough musicians. Close enough.

hmmmm, depends on your definition of from
Bono is strictly speaking from Dublin but lived in my hometown of Bray while I was growing up (in a Martello Tower (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martello_tower))
Phil Coulter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phil_Coulter) lived literally across the street from us....not many people here will have heard of him but he's a pretty famous musician
-
Kelly Willis went to (and dropped out of) my high school (Annandale HS) and Dave Grohl would've went there as well had he been a year younger (they merged Thomas Jefferson into Annandale as it became a solely high tech school).
-
i'll go with
Rush or Neil Young
-
Roanoke/Salem: Wayne Newton, there's no contest.
My favorites were the local bands in the early ninties: Fallout, Integration, Equity, Swank.

Don't forget Ms. Myra Ellen Amos.
-
Hometown: San Diego
A few to choose from and if we are going by cool factor and not popularity then Mojo Nixon and the Beat Farmers trumps Blink 182.
-
Joan Jett went to my junior high (Randolph) in Rockville.

Destiny's Child
ZZ Top
a whole bunch of crunk rappers
Go Houston!
Actually, the father of my friend down the street was a private investigator and did some work for ZZ Top. This was in the early 80s during their popularity peak. It was pretty cool when I was 12.

One that eluded me.
We also have:
Ric Ocasek
Greg Kihn
Will Oldham (aka Bonny Prince Billy)
There was also someone from The Commodores but I don't know who. Never bothered with them. I just know that a good friend of mine works with someone (or used to) who was married to one of them. Don't know how he ended up here or for how long.

Not Woodbridge, Springfield. North Springfield to be exact. Currently weathering the after-effects of something called a "microburst".
Looks like a bomb went off. A bomb made of branches and twigs and leafs of all varieties.

I used to know some guys who rented her old house. Every time I was there I always thought about that terrible movie she did with Michael J. Fox.

I'm just around the corner from the Light of Day.
Yeah-Uh.
-
Has anyone heard Joan's new CD? Any thoughts on it?

Anyhow, I have two hometowns (yah, yah, tone it down)...MT = The Decemberists, off the top of my head; AZ= Gin Blossoms or Jimmy Eat World.

??You should let me in. Do you know who I am? I??m The Hoff.?
I'm never going to stop laughing at that.
-
Well technically Clutch is from Germantown/Gaithersburg, but since both those towns are in the same county I grew up in (I lived in Silver Spring) and I went to high school with a guy who played on their original demo... I guess I claim them.
-
Birthplace - The Stooges
"Hometown" - The High Strung & The Funk Brothers
-
I'm from St. Pete, Florida, which can be expanded to include Tampa, and I have no friggin' idea. There was no one there while I was growing up, or no one who'd been from there.
Even Credence Clearwater Revival is from California, not Clearwater.
Terrence Mann, who played Javert in the original broadway cast of Les Miserables, went to Largo High, the high school for my neighborhood.
Apparently after I left there was quite a metal scene.
-
Olivia and Marty from Washington Social Club went to my college... ;)

I hail from Toronto. and not from the suburbs either, i lived in the city proper. and no, i didnt really "decide" to live there.
my uncle lives in Massachusetts and i stayed with him a few summers, which is how i got to be a Red Sox/Bruins fan. and i did live there for 3 years once i moved to the states.
(ha, i just noticed which smartass forumite is now "the cooler", you're very funny)
