Well I guess I am going to be posting on the board a little less in future......
I just got approval for my H1 visa. I dont know when I start my new job but it wont be long.
Mankie, can you hook me up with a mini?
-
congrats bro!!!
It looks like my efforts at INS to prevent your Visa from coming through failed....
You'll be missed on the board, but if you post when you get home after work, I'll still be on the board!
-
Who'd ya bribe?
-
I'm happy for you...that's great news. Now you can get crackin' on some fabulous scientific discovery...I'm sure you'll find a spare moment here and there to post.

From what your wife was telling me it can't get any smaller...okay, with the penis joke out of the way, when do you need it.
How did you get your visa by the way?? Register for flight school under the name Mohamad Sheit Ma Pents?

well done markie!!
-
There is a $1000 fee for rapid processing.
Still I got my job offer in the beginning of April.......
I need a car to get to College Park, I will be working for a small biotech firm.
I am so fucking excited about not having to go back to the UK. Anyone want to join me for a rousing rendition of God Bless America?

Don't you mean "God Bless Amerikkka"?
-
thanks everyone,
Well I dont know when I start yet, could be Monday. Could be soon after. I guess I will need to go and get a drivers license tomorrow and sort out a car loan at my bank today.
These are the variables. But its not easy to get to by public transport. So if I cant get one pretty soon I will have to get a rental and or buy a focus.
I need to call my new place and see when they want me to start. Perhaps I should do that. I am too excited to talk to the boss on the phone right now though.
-
yikes college park is just down the road from where i live/work...
-
wow, that's great markie! i used to work in college park *happy memories*.

She's emailing me what she has in stock as I type so will let you know.

Can I kiss you?
-
Why don't you get one of these instead of a Mini?

ahh, GGW, so kind of you to offer. As I have never owned a car, I have never had to insure a car. Somehow 400hp V8 and $100,000 make it unlikely anyone would insure me, dontchathink?
And I said you were kung fu master.......

You forgot to add the fact that you live in a high-crime city.

Congratulations, Mark! Fantastic news...I didn't know you were in danger of leaving!? I'll take fewer posts, as long as I get some (posts, that is). Oop, I think that's two beers on me....

I thought I was the weenie?
Yes Bagster. I only had till March 18th before I got deported. I think I will be drinking more than 2 beers at the Ted Leo show.
-
Congrats by the way...just a bit of friendly ex-pat advice. Stay true to your roots and don't become a total doodle, or you'll become hated by the rest of the world.

My girlfriend wants me to become an "arrogant american" if we get married. One of the reasons why we are not yet ;)

I still do not know what that means....
All I can think of is," when you are caught between the moon and New York City........"
-

I don't have any albums, and I have not liked the two songs I've heard (I've seen some video, about 6 months back, and listened to an MP3 from their site that someone posted a few days ago -- but could only listen to the first song before something mucked up...it was TERRIBLE -- "Set you Free"). I've got no shows coming up until WSC at Black Cat next Friday! Oops, except Simon & Garfunkel.

me niether. but i am assuming it means, "all the way" you know, dont ever give up....something like that.
it was an older saying when the moon seemed further away.
I saw "Catch me if you can" last night...it was in that.

set you free is off his first solo album, which sounds nothing like anything else he has done

I liked that okay, at the 2:30 mark (when the drums kicked in...). Trying the next song now...that's the single. I like it but I think that's because I've heard it a lot. For some reason I think I'm not a Ted Leo fan... I like that one part, the lead in to the verses.

You probably don't like him because you somehow knew he once got in to a fight with Bob Pollard, threw a pitcher of beer at him and everything. :D

Everyone hates France also, i dont hear them complaining either. I'm sure 95% of the world hates England also. Whats your point? That countries like Zimbabwa and Peru dont like us? What a huge loss for us. How ever will we survive without those mega super power type countries?

You'd better start being nicey nicey with China because they can seriously kick your arses. I don't see Dubya invading that place to rid that axis of evil. ;)
History has shown that any regime that didn't give a toss about anyone else has fallen.
Roman Empire, Nazi Germany, British Empire are three examples.
-
I think someone else agrees with you Mankie seeing how now we dont agree with Taiwan being Independant.

We've been discouraging Taiwan from declaring independence for more than three decades.

well, those three also were a) empires and b) run by an absolute leader (be it a caesar, dictator or monarch). what does your history say about democracies?

more because China provides cheap labor for many US corporate concerns than because they can kick our asses...

my history says that people who win the popular vote actually win......

What the hell is Bush if he's not an absolute leader???Certainly wasn't voted in now was he?
I thought America might have learned by Britains history, obviously not.

They don't cover the Electoral College (http://www.fec.gov/pages/ecworks.htm) in those citizenship classes?

see ggw's post (above) about the electoral college.
nevermind that it was the 4th time (if i'm correct) it had happened in u.s. history.
