It takes a very special football team to win a treble. :D
-
Fuck Chelsea!!! So good to see Luis Garcia score the goal against them! I am so glad to see Mourinho out of the final.
-
Moron'ho is so arrogant he makes Sir Alex Ferguson seem humble. He's now bitching about the disputed goal. What was the other option? A penalty and red card for Czech, which with 96....or rather 108 minutes left to play, almost certainly 1-0 down as a result of the penalty, reduced to 10 men and second string goalie on the field, so even the goal was a call in Chelski's favour so early on in the match. I'd love to know how they came up with 6 minutes of injury time too.
AC Milan all the way baby!

You know Liverpool are going to do what United couldn't do....win the whole thing! It's destiny mate!!!!!!
-
How great was that? I have never rooted for Liverpool before, but yesterday was a no brainer. I had to watch the game on my computer at work, but it still looked like a goal or a red card to me - I thought the goal was the lesser of two evils for Chelsea and was a bit upset about the call. I would have much rather Liverpool had a man advantage against the back up keeper. I have grown so tired of Mourinho.
I pass the local football bar on my walk home and 4 hours later scousers were still dancing and singing in the pub! Good for them.
And oh my, weren't AC Milan a bit lucky today!

Bless em! They don't get much to celebrate about these days. I do hope Liverpool become a major force again so the Mancs and Scousers can fight it out for English football supremecy like the good old days, and leave the cockney twats as 'also rans' where they belong.
In my almost 45 years of being on this planet, Tuesday was the first time I ever wanted Liverpool to actually win a match, I doubt they can overcome AC Milan, and don't really want them to to be honest. I just hope Everton can keep the 4th spot, the pride of Merseyside.
As for chelski, with the League 'nobody gives a toss' cup as part of the treble, and not the FA Cup it would've been a Mickey Mouse treble anyway.....I don't begrudge them a spot of silverware every 50 years either.
-
The pride of Merseyside? Now I know you're having a laugh!

It'll take more than three points in the Premiership for Everton to be the pride of the city. But United could well become the pride of Tampa Bay next year! The Russians and the Yanks at that top of the Premiership....how much more British could you get?
-
What an unbelievable match. Congrats to the one liverpool fan on the board - an amazing comeback!
I'm sure you'll enjoy watching Everton in the Champions league next year.
-
Shit, incredible comeback, and against Milan AC! really happy for them.

Let's just see if the officals of the Champions League will let Liverpool defend their title next season! It may not be fair, but there is serious talk about letting the Reds do so....should know in about two weeks time.
Everton will have to qualify first and that will be an uphill battle.
Viva LIVERPOOL!
-
Quit yer whingin...you get to keep the bloody trophy so there's nothing to 'defend', ;) it's a whole new trophy for United next season.
I just wonder how Gerrard will feel in his new blue kit next season? At least he'll be in the Champions League!!!!!
Congrats on a great comeback though....
-
this is gonna sound like sour grapes, because, uhhhh, it is sour grapes
great game and great comeback but lets just say "lucky enough to win it this year, not good enough to defend it next year" - if they change the rules to let them in it will be a travesty
its kinda galling that a club thats been mired in such mediocrity for so long has the same number of champions leagues wins as United in the last 10 years....oh well, its a funny old game
but all my Pool supporting friends are ecstatic so I suppose that counts for somethign
-
Actually scum have won it 5 times, which is why they get to keep the actual trophy. United have only won it twice. Now thats the travesty.
The champs league is certainly losing it's glamour though....a nothing team wins it last year and another nothing team scrapes it this year.
I said it before and I'll say it again. Penalty shoot-outs is just a bollocks way of deciding a tournament. After the 90 minutes they should just keep playing 15 minute periods till somebody scores, taking a player from each team for every period.....10 men for the 1st one, 9 for the second, 8 for the third etc etc.
-
I knew that - was talking about the last 10 years....
Actually scum have won it 5 times, which is why they get to keep the actual trophy. United have only won it twice.

My apologies....btw, as amazing as last night was, it's still not the greatest comeback in Champions League history. That accolade was won in 1999. No extra time, no penalties, just a great comeback to win it outright fair and square :)

It's not on the schedule because it is an "Instant Classic" and therefore couldn't be scheduled in advance. They replayed it last night and will do so agian today. It was on ESPN Classic last night.
And while we're giving out accolades, Barca, congrats to your squad as well. That too was a long time coming.

Had Liverpool scored the winner in regulation, it would rival the '99 game, but you're right, with yesterday's extra time and penalties (which are crap), the '99 game is still the greatest comeback in Champions League history.

Typical Buccaneers supporters replies! You get bent out of shape when the spotlight isn't on your team.
One of the most thrilling things in sport is when the underdogs rise up and slay the giants. Yeah, Liverpool isn't up there with the cream of the Premiership, but neither is their payroll. Don't worry boys, Papa Glazer will do his best to buy you some trophies too!
Whether you like it or not, Liverpool are the Champions. They beat some great teams to get where they are today. Stop your sour grapes and let them enjoy their moment in the sun.
Liverpool has won the Champions Cup five times, that's the same amount as all the other English clubs, combined!
I'll take luck over the Buccaneers anyday of the week! :D

hey there!!!
as a bleed-pewter-and-red bucs fan who can talk at great length about our practice squad and NFL europe players, i can tell you that glazer has been a fantastic owner who didn't merely "buy" a championship for the bucs ... they've made great business decisions, have a fantastic new stadium, and turned a franchise that was the laughing stock of the league into a championship caliber team
now if we can just get back to a .500 winning % i'll be happy =)

When you walk through the storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of the storm
There's a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of the lark
Walk on, through the wind
Walk on, through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone
Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone
Put that in your Manchester Buccaneers crackpipe and smoke it! :p

Holy shit, look at this, some Mancunians who AREN'T insecure. Of course they're Manchester City supporters.
OASIS celebrated LIVERPOOL FC??s incredible CHAMPIONS LEAGUE victory at an intimate LONDON gig last night (May 25).
The band didn??t come on stage at the Coronet until the match between Liverpool and AC Milan had been shown on a giant screen, in front of thousands of drunken fans.
Instead of coming on to their traditional intro tape of 'Fuckin?? In The Bushes??, the band came on to Liverpool??s anthem ??You??ll Never Walk Alone??, bathed in red light.
Speaking recently about the show, Noel Gallagher explained: "The gig was sold out and I said, 'Instead of getting a support band, why don't we get a big screen and stick it in the middle of the stage so everyone can watch the game. Then we'll play after the game and get a late curfew'. They all went for it, so we hired a big cinema thing."
Liam Gallagher dedicated 'Stop Crying Your Heart Out' to the Italian fans. AC Milan were 3-0 up at half-time, but ended losing on penalties 3-2 after extra time after Liverpool came back to draw 3-3.
-
Shitty fans celebrate anything that Man United don't win....they probably had a party for Arsenal last saturday. It's due to the fact they don't get much opportunity to celebrate their own team actually winning anything.

Still think it will be Given?
he's on the record as being 'unhappy' at Newcastle
-
Inside scoop!!!!
Sir Alex Ferguson, frustrated at the delay tactics by Carroll and his agent, took matters in his own hands by calling Carroll into his office and presenting a three year contract to him. He tossed the pen to Roy, but unfortunately he dropped it......Carroll was released shortly thereafter.
Fergie is reported to be partial to Italian goalies, but Given or Robinson are both eager for European experience. I would like to see Given because not only is he a great keeper with big-game experience, he has a presence back there, not unlike the great Dane used to have. Plus he's Irish which gives him the edge for me to be honest.
-
I'd demand a better return for my hard earned £! Come on boys, buy those t-shirts so the Bucs can buy some more quality players. Surely we can get some kind of cup next season! Being a Man B supporter is the same as letting your wife loose to shop at Macy's. ;)

Oh man, bummer! Hee,hee,hee...
LONDON (AFP) - Global sportswear giant Nike could back out of its sponsorship deal with British football giants Manchester United if the side fails to return to its winning ways, it was reported.
Nike has a 303-million-pound (440-million-euro, 553-million-dollar) sponsorship deal with United, but since the 13-year deal was signed in 2000 -- the year after the team won the European Champions League -- the club's fortunes have waned.
This past season United -- taken over earlier this month by US sports tycoon Malcolm Glazer despite an outcry from diehard fans -- has won no major honours, and finished a distant third in the Premiership.
"Chelsea won the league this year, Arsenal won the FA Cup and Liverpool won the Champions League, so you could argue that Manchester United is only the fourth-best club in England at the moment," Ian Todd, Nike's vice president for sports marketing, was quoted in the Sunday Telegraph as saying.
He added: "If, for example, Manchester United failed to qualify for the Champions League next season, that might be a problem. We will look very carefully at this situation, as we do with all our sponsorship agreements."
Todd said Nike was due to meet Glazer next month to discuss his strategic vision for the world's most famous football club.
United fans angered by Glazer's takeover have called a rally for Monday in Manchester, northwest England, where Nike and other sponsor products can be surrendered for charity as a gesture of protest.

Here's something else that could wipe the grin off the smug Man B supporters....
From the Liverpool Echo
The Supergroup of European football clubs today demanded that the Reds be allowed to defend their trophy.
G14, the grouping of elite European clubs, has thrown its weight behind the calls to see justice being done.
Uefa bosses must decide if they can make an exception and allow five British clubs into the Champions League, the top four in the Premiership and cup holders Liverpool.
G14 was the body that forced Uefa to expand the Champions League in 1998 by threatening to se up a breakaway competition and now it has thrown its weight behind Liverpool, one of the founder members.
A G14 spokesman said: "We support the desire to see Liverpool defend their trophy and the matter will be raised at our management board meeting next month.
"We believe Uefa should look at ways of allowing this to happen."
The organisation is made up of 18 powerful clubs including Real Madrid, AC Milan and Bayern Munich - as well as Manchester United (now known as Manchester Buccaneers) and Arsenal - and a formal approach will be made in Uefa after the G14 meeting in Amsterdam on June 9.
Meanwhile, the FA's chairman Geoff Thompson, who is also a Uefa vice-president, has continued lobbying for there to be five English clubs in the Champions League so Liverpool can defend their crown.
His main arguement is that nearly all the 52 Uefa member countries would be given an extra place in the Champions League in similiar circumstances - apart from England, Spain and Italy because they are already allowed four teams in the competition.
The FA believes that is an inconsistency in the regulations and that even if Uefa is not convinced on this occasion it should change the rules for the future.
Thompson said: "We are working extremely hard to try to secure the extra place for Liverpool."
"Our basic concern is to ensure that all 52 countries have the same opportunity. There is an additional place guaranteed should the champions come from 49 countries in Europe but not for the other three - England, Italy and Spain.
"We are saying that there should be a level playing field and that every country should have the same opportunity."
Liverpool will have to wait three weeks before they will know one way or another - the issue will be decided by Uefa's 15-man executive committee at their meeting in Manchester on June 17.
There is some hope for Liverpool because Ufea's president Lennart Johansson is understood to be broadly supportive, and his influence is extremely important though not necessarily decisive.
Mario Lefkaritis, a Cypriot member of Uefa's executive committee, said he would approach the meeting with an open mind.
He said, "It is very dangerous to pre-judge anything. If the issue is raised in Manchester we have to listen to all sides and then make a decision."
-
Defend the fucker all you want, it's at least another 20 years before you get a sniff.
As for Nike....who gives a toss? I mean really....some other clothing manufacture will be more than happy to take their place....it's all about business, and Man Utd is a huge business

Man Utd boost after Nike warning
Manchester United have been backed by two of their sponsors a day after sportswear giants Nike issued a warning to the Old Trafford side.
Nike say they may reconsider their sponsorship deal - worth up to £303m - if the club continues to under-achieve.
But brewers Anheuser-Busch, who make Budweiser beer, say they remain "fully committed" to the club and its fans.
Bookies Ladbrokes said: "We're refusing to enter into this debate. We hope this matter eventually settles down."
Manchester United's takeover by American billionaire Malcolm Glazer has contributed to apprehension about the future.
Nike's deal began three years ago but it contains a break clause that can be invoked after six years.
Manchester United shirt sponsors Vodafone, the mobile phone group, also intend to discuss the terms of their deal with new owner Glazer.

Anheuser-Busch? That's sounds about right. I think Walmart should stake a claim too. They could sell those cheesy kits along with their other fine lines of clothing. I'd love to see the Vodafone emblem replaced with that lovely Walmart logo! They truly are America's team.

These scouse *unts crack me up...even the psuedo variety....they crawl from under a rock every 20 years, scrape a victory via penalties, expect the whole European Football Authority to change it's rules because they sucked so much they didn't even qualify to re-enter the bloody competition...and become so full of themselves it's unbearable.
With the Liverscum "let us play next year even though we aren't good enough" mentality....even though the winners of the world cup aren't even guaranteed qualification the next time round unless they happen to be the host nation... United should've won the FA Cup because they were hands down the far better team on the day, but they didn't they lost to a much weaker side on penalties, just like AC Milan did the following Wednesday, but that's the breaks of the game....Ipswich should've been promoted to the premiership because over the season they were the third best team in the championship, but they didn't, West Ham did...again, that's the breaks get over it!
GET OVER IT, YOU JUST AREN'T GOOD ENOUGH TO PLAY IN THE COMPETITION NEXT SEASON Support your neighbours in blue and see you in 2025!

You can't change the facts Mank. With all that money spent, the Bucaneers have nothing to show for it. Come and see me when Man B have a Champions League trophy that can permantantly stay at Old Trafford.

Okay, fine...whatever. Liverpool football club are the greatest thing since toilet paper, especially in the last 20 years. Their record speaks for itself. Congratulations on being the greatest football team that ever donned a pair of shorts. I'm sure you'll be battling giants of the sport such as Charlton, Wigan, Manchester City and West Bromich Albion for mid-table suprememcy next season.
Happy now?

Go back and read the previous posts. I never once said that Liverpool were a great football team. I've always stated that to be competitive in the Premiership you need investors to spend the same kind of money on a team that Chelski and Man B spend on their teams. Before the new season even starts in late August, everyone already knows that Chelski, Man B and ARSEnal will dominate the top of the table, then about five teams will compete for that fourth spot and the rest will fight relegation. It's not rocket science.
After the FA Cup, I congratulated Man B on their performance even though they lost. I think if you go back in this thread you'll see that right after Liverpool won the cup, before I posted anything about it, you and the other Buccaneer supporters were talking trash about Liverpool....being lucky, not being in the Champions league next season and on and on. That's when I started to give you a load of shit about the money Man B spends and has nothing to show for it. Yes, you have next season in the Champions League. For your sake, I hope they don't waste it again.
If it's decided that Liverpool can't defend the cup, so be it. I can live with it. They did play poorly in the Premiership matches this year. Everton deserves to be in it.
-
If you were to check my posts you'd find that I was happy scum won, I said I was neutral with a slight bias for scum a week before the match. I was even supporting scum over chelski.
It just cracks me up that because they got lucky, apart from 6 minutes of pure genius, scum fans are acting like it's the hey days of Shanks all over again....if that's the case then why is Benitez dismantling this 'amazing' team?
Everton didn't have two pennies to rub together and finished 4th....so it's not always about the money, although it doesn't do any harm I admit, as £218,000,000 of Chelski's cashola proves. Besides, scum fans as yourself are only using the money excuse because your team doesn't have any.....what would scum do if they had it? Put it in the bank for a rainy day?? Well it's been pissing down over Anfield for the last 20 years. Of course they would spend it, so don't come the holier than though shite.

Dropped trophy dents celebration
Celebrating Liverpool players got so carried away after winning the Champions League that they dropped the trophy, damaging it.
The club's museum said the famous silverware, which the club now owns after winning the competition five times, now sports a dent on one handle.
There are no plans to get the trophy fixed, the club said.
Curator Steve Done said: "We decided not to get it repaired because it is part of the character of the cup."
The trophy was reportedly dropped by a player during celebrations at the team's hotel in Istanbul.
They won the competition after beating AC Milan on penalties last Wednesday following a dramatic comeback from 3-0 down at half-time.

Everton in talks with investors
Everton have held talks with a London-based consortium over investing in the Premiership club.
The group is led by former Tottenham director Howard Shore, but Everton chief executive Keith Wyness insisted they had only held "preliminary talks".
He said: "We have talked to several parties and always have an open mind about such things.
"But as a club we obviously have a duty to look seriously at any offers that come along."
The Shore consortium also includes Everton fan and London media man Keith Young.

I am glad for Liverpool's catalan, basque and other players and coach from Spain. To me Benitez is the best coach you can get along with Barcelona's Rijkaard and Milan's Ancelloti. He is a good coach and he is humble, doesn't get into the type of stupid behaviour of Mourinho. I hope they get into next year's Champions League.

Thu 02 Jun, 11:47 PM
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - England captain David Beckham on Thursday joined those calling for Liverpool to be allowed to enter next season's European Champions League.
"They way they've played, they've won the Champions League so of course they should be in it next year," Beckham said in an interview following the launch of the David Beckham Soccer Academy in Los Angeles on Thursday.
Liverpool won the Champions League with a dramatic come-from-behind victory against AC Milan last week but missed out on automatic qualification for next season's competition after finishing fifth in England's Premier League when only the top four go through.
European body UEFA is expected to discuss whether to allow a fifth English team in next season at its executive committee meeting in Manchester on June 17.
Beckham arrived in Los Angeles after helping England to a 3-2 victory over Colombia in New Jersey on Tuesday. His Real Madrid team mate Michael Owen scored all three England goals.
"It was a great performance. Michael Owen is a great goalscorer and he proves that when he plays, when he gets chances and he got chances the other night and he scored three goals so for us it was great," Beckham said.
England also won the other game of their short U.S. tour, beating the host nation 2-1 in Chicago. Several young players including midfielder Michael Carrick, winger Kieran Richardson and defender Zat Knight performed well for the team.
STRONGER TEAM
"I think it (the England team) gets stronger each year. I think new players come in and it makes the team stronger," Beckham said, when asked to compare the current side with those he played in during the 1998 and 2002 World Cups.
Beckham said England were well placed to qualify for the 2006 World Cup in Germany. They lead European Group Six by one point from Poland.
"Of course we are in a good position. We are top of the table at the moment. We've got to carry on winning and qualify for the World Cup," he said.
Beckham was asked if he might consider playing in the U.S. when his contract with his Real Madrid expires.
"Playing in America does interest me a lot," he said, noting there had been a "huge" improvement in the U.S. national team over the last five to 10 years.
Beckham is due to fly to Singapore next month to support London's bid to host the 2012 Olympics after receiving a phone call from Prime Minister Tony Blair.
"Watching the Olympics is something special, being part of it is something special. To be asked to go and head the bid is a great honour," he said.
The International Olympic Committee picks the 2012 host city in Singapore on July 6.

I heard Benitez is just learning the English game at scum, preparing himself for a move to Old Trafford...aka (insert doodle company name here) stadium when Fergie retires. :D
A fantastic coach, I think you'll find I've said that quite a number of times if you look up the board archives...what he did with a team of very average players, and a couple of great players, is nothing short of genius. The two best managers in the premiership this last season both reside in Merseyside imho.

Man Utd fans planning legal challenge to Glazer takeover
Fri 03 Jun, 5:03 PM
MANCHESTER, England (AFP) - Manchester United supporters are taking legal advice over a possible challenge to Malcolm Glazer's bid to take the club into private ownership.
Supporters' trust Shareholders United, who have carried the torch of opposition to the American tycoon moving in at Old Trafford, claimed on Friday that this was an avenue they are exploring.
The group, who announced plans to launch a Phoenix Fund' to eventually buy the club back when Glazer "fails", are ready to challenge the Tampa Bay Buccs owner should he de-list Manchester United plc from the Stock Exchange.
They are collating a list of volunteer shareholders to put their names to an action under the Companies Act.
According to SU, holders of 5 percent of shares or 50 shareholders can go to court to overturn a resolution to take a company private.
A spokesman said: "We want to take action to prevent Glazer implementing his plans to take the company private and load it up with excessive amounts of debt, with no realistic prospect of paying it back.
"SU and the small shareholders will be aiming to block his ambition every step of the way, having taken the best legal advice available."
The pressure group claim that the full extent of Glazer's borrowing is "more horrifying" than they first imagined.
The SU spokesman said: "Glazer's business plan projects EBITDA (operating profits) in the year to July 31 2006 of 57.1 million pounds (103 million dollars) and in the next year July 31 2007 of 89.1 million pounds (161 million dollars).
"Where can he find another 32 million pounds (58 million dollars) of operating profit in one year's trading?
"Our analysis of Glazer's financings before refinancing the PIKs (preferred securities) shows negative net cash in year two and little net cash in year three.
"That situation carries major implications for Sir Alex Ferguson (or the next manager) in terms of player transfer budgets and contracts."
SU are also setting up the Phoenix Fund into which supporters can contribute some or all of the proceeds of the sale of their shares.
The fund is viewed as the launchpad for buying the club back when it comes on the market again.
"If only half of the 72,500 SU members and the remaining individual shareholders put in 500 pounds (900 dollars) each to the Phoenix Fund, it would kick off with 36.25 million pounds (66 million dollars) in the buyback pot," added the SU spokesman.
"This could be the best chance that fans of a major football club in the UK will ever have to genuinely reconnect their club with the community and the fanbase."

Okay...now it's just getting pathetic. HE BOUGHT THE TEAM, GET OVER IT OR FIND A NEW TEAM TO SUPPORT
I don't like the idea either, but it may well end up being a great thing for United if you look at what he did with Tampa.....
-
oooooh, I almost forgot. Did anyone get to see England conquer the Americas last week? Maybe they should've got the French to bail them out like the last time.
How 'bout that Kieran Richardson Smackie???

What did he do with Tampa? Yeah, they won a Superbowl, but with the salary cap, so have a lot of other teams. That's why I have the deepest respect for the Patroits. When you can continue winning Superbowls with the cap, that's outstanding.
Mankie, you know more than most that Mancunians can whine for England. It must be that milltown atmosphere.

Fucking hell, there aren't many true Scousers in Liverpool! I think you've got your cities mixed up. You must have been talking about Manchester.

You're probably right that there's more scousers in manc than there are in Liverpool!!!! They have to go somewhere to see a good game of football and a decent pint. ;)

Man Utd agree Van Der Sar deal
Manchester United have reached agreement with Fulham to sign goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar.
The Holland international has agreed a two-year contract at Old Trafford and will undergo a medical after returning from international duty.
Van der Sar had been linked with a move to United in January but agreed a contract extension with Fulham until summer 2006 instead.
United however have been looking for a new keeper after Roy Carroll turned down a new deal and have moved in to sign the 34-year-old.
Van der Sar is United's first new signing since the club's takeover by Malcolm Glazer and he is likely to join the squad for next month's tour of the Far East.
He will become the latest in a long line of keepers to have been tried by manager Sir Alex Ferguson since the loss of Peter Schmeichel in 1999.
Mark Bosnich, Massimo Taibi, Raimond van der Gouw, Fabien Barthez and Carroll have all come and gone while Ricardo's contract expires this summer.
United's other keeper, American Tim Howard, agreed a new contract to 2009 last month.
Van der Sar joined Fulham from Juventus for £5million four years ago. United were involved in an acrimonious transfer deal with the Cottagers for Louis Saha last year but this deal appears to have been reached cordially.

Glazers take seats on Manchester United board
Tue 07 Jun, 6:38 PM
LONDON (Reuters) - Soccer club Manchester United Plc <MNU.L> said on Tuesday that Avram, Bryan and Joel Glazer, the three sons of U.S. tycoon Malcolm Glazer, had joined the board as non-executive directors following the takeover of the club.
The English Premier League side said in a statement that Roy Gardner had resigned as chairman and Ian Much and Jim O'Neill had resigned as non-executive directors, as expected.
On May 16, U.S. financier Malcolm Glazer said he had raised his stake in Manchester United to over 75 percent, finally gaining full control of the club he battled to acquire for more than two years.
The reshuffle leaves the line up of United's board with the three Glazers as non executives directors and three executive directors; Chief Executive David Gill, Nick Humby, United's group finance director and Andy Anson, the commercial director who has been reappointed to the board after being ousted by Glazer when his last bid attempt fell apart.
One key question is whether CEO David Gill intends to stay with United once Glazer's takeover of the club has been completed.
A source close to the process said Gill had been asked to stay on but that so far no talks had been held between him and the Glazer camp.
"We'll negotiate new terms once the acquisition is complete," the source said. "He's been invited to stay and we hope he will stay."
Glazer finally seized control of Manchester United last month by buying a 28.7 percent stake from the club's biggest shareholder, Cubic Expression, an investment vehicle for Irish racehorse magnates John Magnier and J.P. McManus.
Over the following days, Glazer's advisers snapped up more shares until they reached a key 75 percent plus threshold, giving the American full control of the club. He now owns 76.2 percent and has launched an offer for the remaining shares.
The first indication of shareholders' appetite for the deal will come on June 13, the first closing date of Glazer's offer.
The source said reception had been good so far, with Glazer already gaining about another 4 percent of the club bringing his holding to over 80 percent. That figure could rise between now and Monday as most shareholders tend to wait until the closing date before tendering their shares.
If Glazer reaches 97.5 percent, he will have the right to squeeze out the remaining shareholders, a hard core of United fans who have vowed to fight the U.S. financier to the last.
In a normal takeover the bar is 90 percent but because Glazer had such a high proportion of the shares before posting his offer document -- 76.2 percent -- he needs to get 90 percent of the remainder before the squeeze out can begin.

I think they should figure out some way to incorporate television time-outs too. Forty five minutes is too long a stretch without an advert. Just think how much more Bud could be sold with all the additional promotion. I'm always looking out for Man B's best interest.

Reds set for European boost
Thu 09 Jun, 4:36 PM
Uefa are expected to give Liverpool a place in the qualifying rounds of the Champions League.
The 14 men who make up Uefa's executive committee will vote on the matter during a telehone conference and although there is a block of members who believe the rules should not be changed, president Lennart Johansson is likely to succeed in persuading the majority to agree that the champions should be allowed to defend their crown.
The title-holders are usually guaranteed an automatic place in the group stage but that scenario is highly unlikely and, indeed, Liverpool themselves would be content with a place in the final qualifying round.
The Reds' failure to qualify through their Premiership finish has allowed Turkish champions Fenerbahce to take up the automatic group spot.
Fenerbahce staying in the group stages also brings Uefa's senior vice-president Senes Erzik, who is from Turkey, on board the campaign to allow Liverpool to become a fifth English side in Europe's elite club competition.
There have been suggestions a minnow from Andorra or San Marino would have to be bumped out of the earlier rounds but clubs from these countries only take part in the Uefa Cup anyway.
Uefa sources say under the most likely scenario the Slovakian champions - their league is not yet over - would play an extra qualifying round and be compensated by the country being given an extra Uefa Cup place.
A source close to Uefa said: "The executive committee is fairly evenly split but the fact the president has said he favours Liverpool's inclusion should prove decisive.
"The situation with Fenerbahce is very important. If they get an automatic place in the group phase that means a guaranteed £5.5m for them, so Senes Erzik will only support a qualifying round place for Liverpool."
The Football Association, who have been campaigning on Liverpool's behalf, have made it clear that they do not expect automatic qualification for the club.
There is another headache for Uefa in how they split up the TV money if five English sides do qualify - their formulas only cover up to four from the same country.
Liverpool would not object if given a place in the final qualifying round but they would not be happy if told they had to play in the first or second qualifiers - prinicpally because that would clash with their pre-season tour of Japan.
Should the unthinkable - as far as Rafael Benitez's side are concerned at any rate - occur and Uefa rule against Liverpool completely then the Reds will not take the decision lying down.
It has been suggested that they would then consider whether to pull out of the European Super Cup against Uefa Cup winners CSKA Moscow in
Uefa's glittering curtain-raiser in August.
They might also threaten to withdraw in protest from Fifa's rejigged World Club Championship in Yokohama, Japan, in December.

Congratulations. You did so poorly in league that UEFA had to make special rules for you to defned your cup. So I read it, but who's weaping?

The Red half of Manchester and all it's ex-pats! I wouldn't say they made new rules, they may just do the same thing for England that they do for just about every other country in the Uefa.

Glazer to up United ticket prices to boost profit - report
Fri 10 Jun, 4:17 AM
LONDON (Reuters) - The new owner of Manchester United plans to triple operating profit under a five-year plan which would see ticket prices rise sharply, the Times newspaper reported on Friday.
U.S. investor Malcolm Glazer, who gained control of the English club last month after a two-year fight, hopes to boost annual profits to 114.3 million pounds by 2010, the paper said.
The Times said Glazer could further anger supporters who opposed his takeover by raising ticket prices by up to 54 percent within five years.
The report, citing previously unseen documents, said the club hopes to raise total revenues by 52 percent to 245.6 million pounds by 2010.
However, the proposals have yet to be finalised and could still be changed, The Times quoted an unnamed source close to Glazer as saying.
If the plans are adopted, United fans would pay an average of 46 pounds to watch a game in 2010, the Times reported.
No one at the club could be reached for comment.
Glazer plans to delist United from the London Stock Exchange as early as June 22 as part of his 790 million pound takeover, his bankers said in May.
Glazer's takeover has angered many United fans who fear he will hike ticket prices and cut back on player investment to pay back the hefty loans he used to buy the club.
The Times report said the club's manager, Alex Ferguson, will have a 25 million pound net annual budget to buy new players over the next five years, compared to an average spend per season of 19.4 million pounds since 1998.
The newspaper said the documents gave details of the interest repayments the club faces on part of the debt.
The report said Glazer must pay an annual rate of 20 percent on 210 million pounds of the debt and 14 percent on a further 65 million pounds.
The documents make no mention of any plans to sell the club's Old Trafford stadium and lease it back.

Man City face Uefa disappointment
Manchester City are unlikely to be given a place in the Uefa Cup if Liverpool are allowed into the Champions League.
City, who finished eighth in the Premiership, had been lobbying to take the place vacated by Liverpool if they were allowed to defend their trophy.
But BBC Radio Five Live understands City are likely to be disappointed.
City missed out to Middlesbrough on the when Robbie Fowler missed a last-minute penalty on the season's final day.
This goes a long way to helping the old manc/scouse hate-fest!

54% over the next five years....sure it's a bummer, but in reality, with the other big-guns and Liverscum no doubt increasing their prices over the next years, they'll probably still be below, or at least on par with the rest of the big teams of England, and Liverscum.
I don't have the figures exactly but I do know United tickets are currently way below the other main teams, and Liverscum.....
I'll be disapointed if they change the rules to let scum defend the cup even though they weren't good enough to qualify. Unless I'm mistaken, Brasil are still going through qualification for the world cup even though they're reigning champions........no?
-
Sorry, three posts in a row, but most of you are still tucked up in bed...
My case in point on ticket prices...
The big squeeze
Big-money signings like Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney could be a thing of the past at Old Trafford. Secret documents revealed last night show transfer spending will be squeezed to £25million a season under Malcolm Glazer??s new regime. The new owner will also release an additional £25m, spread over the next five years. But, with the Rooney deal costing United a potential £30m and defender Rio £29.1m, it is clear Red Devils boss Alex Ferguson will not be able to buy a team of superstars. The spending cap will be imposed as Glazer pays off the £374m in loans he used to buy his current 76.2 per cent share in the club. Fans will also be shocked by ticket price rises of 54 per cent within five years. The price of an average United ticket ?? expected to be £29.90 this year ?? will jump to £33.40 next year, £38.70 in 2007, £41 in 2008 and £43.40 in 2009. United fans will be expected to pay an average of £46 per ticket for home games in 2010 ?? just below the current cost of a ticket for Chelsea home games. But American tycoon Glazer will also bump up the prices for ??Premier? games, such as Champions League quarter-finals and semis by 25 per cent ?? from next year. Tickets for group games will be 12.5 per cent more expensive.
Neil Custis, The Sun
Basically, in five years time, United tickets will still be below the current price of a chelski ticket.
Transfer spending at £25m is more than Fergie has been getting, which has been an average of £19.1m, and with the extra £25m over the next 5 years on top of his annual budget, that's an average of £30m per year for 5 years.....not too shabby if you ask me. He could buy the whole of Liverscum, including the slum of a stadium every year with that kind of budget.....but why would he waste his money?
Like I said, I'm not jumping up and down over the fact we're now owned by a doodle, but it's not all doom and gloom like some fear.

Sorry to disappoint you Mankie.....
Liverpool Given Champions Chance
Fri 10 Jun, 1:09 PM
Liverpool will be allowed to defend their Champions League crown next season.
UEFA's 14-man executive committee today decided to make a special case to allow the Reds into the first qualifying round of the competition next season.
It means Liverpool will have to play six matches in order to qualify for the group phase and it could interfere with their pre-season tour of Japan.
Liverpool, who failed to finish in a qualifying place in the Barclays Premiership, will become the fifth English side in the competition.
UEFA have also taken steps to ensure that the same scenario never occurs again by changing the rules so that in the future the titleholders will always qualify for the competition the following season.
If the Liverpool situation occurs again and the European champions fail to finish in a qualifying place in their domestic competition however they will come in at the expense of the fourth-placed side.
The rules will also apply for countries who only get three or two Champions League spots, but there will be a special exemption in the unlikely event of a country with one Champions League spot winning the competition but failing to win their own domestic league.
UEFA have confirmed that despite Liverpool's admission to the Champions League Manchester City will not be given a UEFA Cup place next season.

So....should a miracle happen twice, which is highly unlikely, Liverpool will be unworthy champions seeing as they should never have been in the bloody competition in the first place. I can live with that.
I'd laugh my dick off if they failed to get through the qualifying rounds....now that would be poetic justice.
I can guarantee you that if it was Man Utd whinging and moaning like spoiled brats, they would never have changed the rules.

Man Utd set for new ticket record
<img src="http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/40618000/jpg/_40618918_oldtrafford203.jpg" alt=" - " />
It was feared that fans would stay away from Old Trafford
Manchester United expect to sell a record 42,500 season tickets before the new campaign begins in August.
United have put an extra 2,500 season tickets on sale and have already eclipsed last year's mark of 40,072, despite an average price rise of 10%.
It had been suggested fans might vote with their feet following Malcolm Glazer's takeover at Old Trafford.
But a club spokesman said: "The likelihood is we will sell out before the start of the season."
Meanwhile, the Manchester Evening News reports that United have seen a minimal increase in the number of season tickets not being renewed for next season.
An average of 200 are not retained each year for a variety of reasons, and the increase this summer is understood to be in the tens, and not hundreds.

Owen: I want to join United
Michael Owen has revealed he wants to join Manchester United. The England striker is starting to accept his Real Madrid career is drawing to a close. And a source close to the former Liverpool star, 25, said: "It looks like Real are ready to sell. If that is the case, he has a hankering to play for United. He does realises it wouldn't go down too well with the Anfield fans who used to idolise him but that is something he is prepared to live with. He enjoys partnering Rooney with England and would love to link up with him at club level." A move to Old Trafford would enable Owen to live in his £5 million luxury mansion Lower Soughton Hall in Flintshire with his bride-to-be Louise Bonsall and their two year-old daughter Gemma. United are thought to be closing in on Owen with a £15 million bid ?? though Real Madrid would like Ruud Van Nistelrooy to be part of an exchange package. But the sale of United striker Louis Saha to Everton is the deal which could open the way for Owen to bolster Sir Alex Ferguson's strike force.
David Harrison, News of the World
Glazer gives green light for Owen bid
The Glazer family have told Sir Alex Ferguson: 'Go and sign Michael Owen.' New Old Trafford owner Malcolm and son Joel, the driving forces of the takeover, are determined to help deliver a transfer coup which they hope will deflect some of the criticism which has come their way from angry Manchester United supporters. The Glazers have been made aware that Ferguson is an admirer of England striker Owen, whose immediate future is up in the air at Real Madrid. Now the Glazers are backing Ferguson to actively step into negotiations to bring Owen back to the Premiership after just one season away in Spain. That would mean United coming up with the £11million to activate a clause in the player's contract - the fee which any club would have to pay to open negotiations with Real Madrid if owen said yes to a swift return to the English game. Ferguson knows Owen and £27million striker Wayne Rooney have hit it off at international level. He also believes Ruud van Nistelrooy can fit into the equation with Rooney playing wide.

Glazer: Is it Bust?
Stuart Brennan
MALCOLM Glazer has done just one thing for Manchester United - destroyed its dwindling soul and filled the gap with a shed-load of debt.
For the first time in the club's history, it is in the hands of a man whose sole interest is how much cash he can squeeze out of the name and reputation of Manchester United.
United were a club with a great tradition, a tragic and beautiful history, the club of Billy Meredith and Duncan Edwards, of Eric Cantona and George Best, the Stretford End and the Manchester Blitz.
What is it now? A means for a very rich man to make himself even richer, by driving up ticket prices, exploiting the "brand" and marketing United to people who think Munich is just another German town and that Nobby Stiles is a hairdresser's in Collyhurst.
My dad helped to rebuild Old Trafford after Adolf Hitler had done his worst in 1940 - he was born a bomb-burst away in Ordsall. Like hundreds of thousands of ordinary Mancunians, he could no longer afford to go to watch United, had he still the desire to do so.
And it will get worse.
Glazer will complete the United transformation from a club made by the people and for the people into a preserve of the middle classes, driving in from Cheshire and all points south on matchdays, consuming and spending, but knowing nothing of support.
A lot like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, in fact.
United began life when a group of railway workers got together to form a club, and they soon became a central point in Manchester life.
Hijacked
In the 127 years since the club's formation, that noble ideal has been hijacked and turned into something callous and calculating, where balance sheets are the bottom line. It is a club that knows the price of everything and the value of nothing. No one is claiming that this is all the fault of the Glazers. The process began years ago, when the Edwards family realised the potential and began buying up shares in the club.
The switch to a plc in 1992 freed up money to improve the ground and the team, but it also laid it wide open to predators like Rupert Murdoch and the Glazers. At least Louis Edwards had supported United - his first interest was in the football, not the dosh.
And the plc, for all its faults, had the nous to maintain some contact with supporters groups, and was accountable to the thousands of ordinary shareholders as well as the cash-hungry millionaires and City institutions who owned most of it.
Now United, bar the shouting, are solely in the hands of a man who sees them as just another business gamble, and it is the last straw for many loyal supporters.
Even for those who will continue to go to games, things will never be the same. The atmosphere, which had started to recover in recent years, will die. The sound of Old Trafford will be of polite applause from the puzzled know-nowts in the corporate areas.
Glazer is throwing the dice, and United's future depends on the outcome.
He may just throw a double six, and the club goes on to win trophy after trophy. But it will be a private party, with the traditional support bounced at the door because they cannot afford the admission price.
On the other hand, Glazer's business plan, described as "damaging" and "aggressive" by the man who is now trying to implement it, chief executive David Gill, could easily crash and burn.
Success
The image of the Glazers as street-smart American businessmen with a portfolio full of success does not quite hold true.
The last time they moved into a business they did not understand it was an unmitigated disaster, as they began a dotcom business which lost millions before it crashed under the leadership of Avi Glazer who one leading dotcom commentator said was surrounded by "almost surreal incompetence". Avi is now on the United board, and you can bet he knows less about football than he does about the internet.
The Glazers are taking a huge risk with United, and if the risk fails, they will shrug their shoulders and walk away, their personal fortunes intact, as big businessmen do, leaving their creditors to squabble over the pickings from the carcass.
Players will be sold, Old Trafford will be sold, and United will end up as another Leeds.
Overnight, the Glazers turned United from a profit-making business into the world's most debt-ridden club - and with more and more red ink on the way, if business analysts are to be believed.
Perhaps they have been taken in by the boasts of the plc, that they have 74million fans worldwide, and have not realised that the core of United support is, and always has been, in the north west of England, and in Manchester in particular.
Too many supporters have begun to be taken in by the spin. "You never know, they might prove to be a good thing, we'll just have to wait and see" is the phrase of the moment in Manchester's bars and barbershops.
Poverty
These kind of people would lie in bed as a burglar breaks in downstairs, and would say to their missus: "Let's just wait to see what he does - you never know he might leave us a few quid."
Because that is the one thing Glazer and his family are interested in - your cash.
Squalid claims that Joel Glazer is "an avid Manchester United fan" only serve to underline the poverty of the pro-Glazer argument. I have never seen Joel on the away terraces at Ayresome Park, or singing his heart out on the Stretty.
Those supporters are the ones United will try to fall back on once the Japanese and the Javans switch their allegiance to Chelsea or Barcelona. For the first time in the club's history, they will find that many of them are no longer there.
Many United supporters, probably the majority, are unhappy about Glazer but are lost in a feeling of helplessness. They feel there is nothing they can do to alter things.
They need to wake up to their own power. As far as Manchester United isconcerned, you are no longer supporters, you are customers.
If that is what they want, act like a customer - and if you cannot shake the United addiction and stop going to matches, at least refuse to give the Glazers any more of your cash.
Some fans are afraid of doing this, claiming it would just help United to crash and burn, to bring about financial meltdown even more quickly.
They are dead right. But United would come again. They did it after 1940 when Hitler's bombs seemed to have ended the dream, they did it in 1958 when so many aspirations lay shattered and torn on a Munich runway.
With Glazer removed, and even with the club shattered, United would rise again - and hopefully next time it will be the supporters who are the heart of the club, as they are at Barcelona, and not men for who money means everything.

It's because in our country it's innocent until proven guilty. In England, it's guilty if it sells papers...
At least Mankie is smart enough to say "Let's see what the Yank can do before we slam him, but dammit, did it have to be a Yank?"

Man United Fans Form Rival, Semipro Club
By SARAH LARIMER, For The Associated Press
Mon Jun 27,10:23 AM ET
MANCHESTER, England - Barry Harrison is a 16-year-old defender and all of 5-foot-4, and nothing will stop him from trying to make a soccer team from Manchester called United.
It's not the famous Manchester United, however. It's a fledging semipro club called United of Manchester.
Harrison was one of 200 players hoping to earn a spot with the breakaway club, which was formed by about 3,000 disgruntled fans just weeks after Tampa Bay Buccaneers owner Malcolm Glazer bought Manchester United in May.
In the week after the tryouts were announced, 900 applications flooded the club, according to United spokesman Jules Spencer. And 200 of those were selected for the Sunday tryouts.
Harrison, who started playing soccer when he was 3, said he saw the Glazer buyout and the formation of the new team as an opportunity.
"I think it's given other people a tryout really, like for those people like me," Harrison said.
Other Manchester United fans at the tryout said they saw the takeover as nothing but shattered chances.
Chris Mason, a 48-year-old carpenter, has been attending Manchester United games since he was a boy. Now, for the first time in 40 years, Mason said he probably won't be cheering for his team.
Mason, whose 16-year-old son Andrew was trying out Sunday, said he suspects each new season will bring higher ticket prices for Manchester United.
"Is it worth spending 60 to 70 pounds ($110 to $128) just to see a football match?" Mason asked.
Harrison, however, said he'd wait to pass judgment on Glazer.
"I think United fans should really give him a tryout, see if he can do something good," Harrison said. "And if he don't, we can go against him, can't we?"
Man United fans have had a relatively short time to judge Glazer, but that hasn't slowed action from the fans who founded United of Manchester. In a three-week period, the team had selected manager Karl Marginson, established a steering committee, given the team its colors and set up the open tryouts.
Spencer said players were drawn to the club for two reasons ?? they want a shot at soccer or they support the breakaway team.
Marginson said many of the players probably didn't care about the Manchester United shareholders and the tension between the new club owner and the infant program. They just want the opportunity to play for the squad's inaugural team.
"I think the players are here because they want a chance to play," Marginson said. "We're going to be part of history."

What does Malcolm Glazer know about the Premiership or Man U? That didn't stop him from spending millions to buy the club! I think the fans of United have a lot more reason to be pissed off than you do. You're upset about a sentence in a newspaper article....these guys could lose a whole fucking team.
