I saw this post on another message board. I don't know where the person found these dates for U2's upcoming tour. So, I can't claim any of the info to be accurate.

mci????
why can't u2 play fed-ex field, or even go out and destroy rfk?
i've been waiting for a band, perhaps pink floyd, to come around the town and show rfk off in style with one hell of a blow out show, before the thing gets torn down. maybe even ac/dc . . . yeah!!

My father and I have been debating for years regarding whether Floyd will ever tour again. He says no... But I think there have been small bits of activity within the Floyd camp (Dave's solo gig from Meltdown; cooperation in the Dark Side Classic album series) that suggests a nail shouldn't be put in the coffin. I know they all still play their instruments! Would love to see them one more time in my life.

smackie, did you sign up and pay the $40 fan club fee to help you get tickets? i'm debating whether i should or not.

I did sign up but not to get tickets and as a longtime Propaganda subscriber, it wasn't $40 either. There was deal because they owed us a few issues of the magazine.
U2 have been pretty good in the past about hooking up their fans with free stuff. The tickets are limited to two at an indoor show and four at an outdoor show per year. I see them more often then that on tour, so the fee wouldn't be worth it. I will say that for each of the shows in the past I have requested tickets for, I have been given tickets 100% of the time.
-
ok, sounds like it wouldn't be worth it as i too am planning on seeing them multiple times on this tour. thanks for the info!

Info re: the tour:

U2 Postpone World Tour
Family illness pushes back "Bomb" trek
U2 have postponed their much-anticipated tour behind How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb, originally scheduled to kick off March 1st in Miami. "All of the plans are in total flux," a source close to the band told Rolling Stone, citing a family illness as the reason for the change. Tour dates were to be announced and go on sale this month, but those plans have been delayed.
The band, which is nominated for three Grammys for the single "Vertigo," still intends to play the February 13th awards ceremony in Los Angeles and to attend its induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on March 14th in New York. However, a new timeline for the tour has not been set.
According to longtime tour designer Willie Williams, the tour's stage and video screens are in the process of being built. "We are developing some new technologies to deliver visual content," he told Rolling Stone.
U2's last world tour, in support of All That You Can't Leave Behind, made them the top-grossing act of 2001.

It's very sad news actually, and I'm not talking about the tour being delayed.

who's family member is ill?

I reported in error this morning that it was a family member of the Edge.
KROQ in LA is reporting that a band member has strep throat. The truth is, nobody knows for sure.

Perhaps they finally had an intervention for Bono's massively unwarranted ego.

Wasn't Adam or Larry vacationing in Southeast Asia? Maybe it has something to do with that.

SNL will repeat the episode with U2 and the three performances (Vertigo, STYCMIOYO, and I Will Follow) this Saturday, Jan 8. Try not to miss it.

U2 will kick off their 2005 world tour at the SAN DIEGO SPORTS ARENA on March 28.
Kings Of Leon have also been announced as the support act for the first leg of the global trek, with tickets going on sale on January 29.
The full dates for the Vertigo tour will be announced on Monday (January 24) and despite being two months away, it is likely to be the highest grossing jaunt of 2005.
From as many as 110 shows, conservative estimates put the tourâ??s gross potential at $225-$250 million.
"One of the great privileges of working with U2 is you get to go on the road with them," manager Paul McGuinness told Billboard. "We are, I suppose, that rarest of things: a major touring attraction that is still having number one records all over the world after 25 years."
The first leg of the tour will hit North America for two months, wrapping up in late May in Boston. The trek will then head to 30 European stadiums, kicking off in Brussels on June 10.
The band will tour throughout Europe until mid-August, before returning to North America for another run of 30 arena dates.
McGuinness said: "This tour will be not unlike the last production in that the lowest priced tickets will be on the floor. The best seats are the cheapest, and we want people to get excited."
Talking about the distribution of floor tickets, he said: "Some will be on sale, some will be radio contest winners."
McGuinness also revealed that some shows will be available as digital downloads, explaining: "We're exploring technology where it might be possible to download the show you've just seen. We've been talking to iTunes and the folks at Apple, with whom we have a great relationship, but it's not quite there yet. We're certainly looking at it."

ugh, buying u2 tickets...stresses me out

U2 what a sad state of affairs when THIS is what we call music.

Who is the genius who paired U2 and Kings of Leon?

same ones who paired them and 3rd Eye Blind in 98

Not the guy who once gave them the Pixies or Love and Rockets or the Pretenders or No Doubt or Public Enemy, The Sugarcubes and The Disposable Heroes of HipHoprisy.

When are those Old 89 rednecks going to pair up with U2?
-
Rule #1 when picking an opener. Never pick someone who will put on a better show. Kings of Leon will do just fine as the opener.

Whatever happened to Snow Patrol opening??

I believe the Pogues opened for U2 in the late eighties, same rule would apply here with the small difference that the Pogues surely gave a better live performance.

Was that around the Waterboys' "Fisherman Blues" album? If so, that would have been a good time to see both bands.
-
same here. though with a later start date for the tour, this make is more probably that i will now be able to see them on my birthday. hopefully they'll be playing either dc, toronto, vancouver or miami on april 23.
smackie, how is sound quality at the big venues in san fran/san jose? better to see them at the mci center or go west?

You'll have to ask Venerable. The only show I've seen at the Arena's out here is Britney at Oakland Coliseum and it's a lip synch show so it's impossible to guage sound quality.

Anyone on the fence about going to a U2 show should bite the bullet and go....I am what might be called a casual fan, "Greatest hits" cd and thats it in my collection. Without a doubt, they put on one of the best live shows in a large venue/arena so you won't be disapointed, unless you're next to a smoker/dancer/talker/snoggers/drunks, you know, the usual stuff. :)

or an obsessed fan who "touched" Bono because she was next a friend who touched him. this was the same person that couldn't understand why I didn't want them climbing up my back in order to get nearer to Bono. Never mind the fact that I was already three or four people away from catwalk Bono was on at that time.
-
Anyone know if it's still possible to sign up for U2.com and get in on the presale?
-
i would advise against it. it only allows you to get 2 tickets to any one show in a calendar year. not worth it.

I'd better not be with tickets costing up to $160

I'm missing something. What happened to the DC date?
-
Looks like DC (along with all of the South and mid-Atlantic) has to wait until the fall leg.
