Title: thank you, mister higher power in the sky
Post by: walkonby on November 17, 2008, 11:50:00 am
california votes to take away a certain group of people's right to exist as normal human beings . . . and now it is burning to the ground.  any other states want to piss off god?

Socal burns every year.

It would've burned whether or not they passed that amendment (the passing of which does make my stomach turn).

i thought the same thing after i posted.  now i think that god is punishing cali. for the ronson / lohan debacle.  give it up lindsay.  sam is really gay and thinks you love her.  your career will never come back.

Last I saw, no Churches were in danger...your theory is thus suspect.

churches are protected by satan (the one who invented them).  they're hard to touch, i've heard.

I don't believe that god or whatever exists takes a personal interest in any of us.  Even gays.

maybe the fires are due to the fact that catholics voted for Obama? (http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2008/11/17/nastasi.sc.priest.controversy.wspa)

I liked what my friend posted on facebook...

"If you're a tree in California and you are flaming you get help from the government, but if you are gay and flaming in California, your rights get taken away!"

 Funny, but unfortunately true.

This priest infuriates me.  Obviously.  Catholics had historically been a highly Democratic demographic, in large part based on recent immigrant status and blue collar backgrounds.  Alas, the 'social conservatism' of the Reagans and Bushes swept some of them up over one issue....  But, this priest has the same right to be a dick as every other person in the U.S.  God bless us.     :p

I remember fondly when he was just my second or third favorite anchor on sportscenter, but Olberman nails this. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21xdFUp-vVU&eurl=http://www.couragecampaign.org/page/s/prop8repeal)

what infuriates me is how various churches have become single-issue voting blocks, or try to be.  forget a candidate's stance on the death penalty, health care, the economy & poverty alleviation, war, torture, personal freedoms (AKA all traditional values for christian churches)... they'd vote for a despotic monster as long as it vowed to overturn roe v. wade.

what was smackie saying about the paucity of ideas?...

You got it Sweetcell -- looking at just one other issue, any candidate in FAVOR of the death penalty should be as villified in the eyes of the Catholic Church as a pro-choice candidate.

I'm sure I've said this before, but poverty and health care are moral issues to me.

Question, HOW does the Mormon church not lose their tax exempt status for all that advertising on Prop 8?!?!?

I don't even usually watch Olbermann, but happened to be watching and saw this commentary.  A minute or so in I was flabbergasted -- really great.  Just so reasonable.  Oy.

He's done a lot of good ones but that was my favorite of his "special comment"s. I got a knitpicky/hair-splitting response a few days ago after showing it to someone else.

You know, that made me tear up. It is my exact sentiment regarding Prop 8, and gay marriage in general. What a blow for human rights that was.
