I'm in for Camden Thursday and DC next Sunday
-
I'll be there for both Camden nights and DC.
-
I'm in for DC.
-
Camden friday, DC sunday.
speaking of camden: has anyone ever taken the ferry from penn's landing to camden? looks like a good way to limit one's exposure to that nasty place. one concern: the ferry website makes it sound like there is only one boat after the show. will it sell out? i'd hate to be stuck there without a ride back across the river...
If the Grim Reaper had a favorite vacation spot, it would be Camden, New Jersey. (http://www.maximonline.com/articles/index.aspx?a_id=7266)

I was actually wondering the same thing.

We can only pray it does. :p

I've done it. There were always multiple boats after the shows. No problems at all.
-
DC, my first PJ show. Friend that is taking me also took me to my first Bowie Show (Jones Beach) and u2 Shows (1st/second night of 05 Vertigo tour, floor @ MSG.)
-
i remember the days when pearl jam shows were the shit shit. bigger than radiohead. like every show was like that 930 secret smashing pumpkins show, meaning trying to get a hold of tickets and all. now everything means nothing.
-
my guess is because pearl jam fans don't require a paper bag in order to enjoy a concert of theirs...
-
I'll be in for VA Beach and DC. Anyone need va beach tickets? I've got three.
-
I'm coming down for DC.
Not doing Camden this year...HATED the ferry ride back after the May gigs last year. The wait was real long each night for us. Huge post show buzz kill.
-
o yea - we've got one extra in 419 Row B (Sunday @ Verizon)
the best we could get for 6 together.
sat similar a fews years ago in Kitchener (realizing this venue is MUCH bigger) & had great fun.
<img src="https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/248/905/10m/origin.media.ticketmaster.com/en-us/tmimages/venue/maps/wdc/15288s.gif" alt=" - " />
[just poked around - seems to be a lot of tix out there. re-sellers getting killed. there will be SOME great deals to be had]
-
I'll be there. I've got friends flying in from Minneapolis, who are then going to the New York shows too. I can't wait.
-
super excited, too, especially after that REM show! we'll be in section 107.
-
worst band
-
thanks for your input. we'll have fun without you :)
-
VA Beach, Philly I, DC.
Pearl Jam shows #40, 41, and 42, respectively.
All fan club tickets.. (fingers crossed for first two rows in "lottery")
Although I think Radiohead a few weeks ago will have blown all of these out of the water, imo, they are still the "shit shit" to me.
-
I have Ten Club tickets to Virginia Beach and D.C. I'm not going to Camden since I hated the venue and the city in '06.
I'm thrilled after reading the recent setlists, especially at Bonnaroo last night. It'll be my 8th and 9th PJ shows, and I don't know if I've ever been more excited (other than the Borgata shows).
Anybody hanging outside the VA Beach Amphitheater before the show on Tuesday? I'll be there waiting to get a poster.

I'm not a big PJ fan but that 1st encore is sweet!
-
yeah pretty good collection of song there... kinda glad to see that rockin' in the free world isn't on that list
-
I'll be doing VA Beach, DC and both MSGs....still considering at least one Camden show...
I'll be out there early for posters...
-
what's the deal with posters? is there only a limited amount, so you need to get there early?
-
people and posters are odd. they buy them, they worship them, they tell everyone and show everyone their sweet poster collection so carefully placed in poster books. then in about ten years, they sell them on ebay because they can't afford the rent.
-
i hear ya, walkie. i don't get it either. if i had a basement or a "man room", i might consider framing and putting up a poster or two that is particularly beautiful or meaningful. but otherwise, personally, posters only end up gathering dust in a closet. there are some gorgeous posters being made, no doubt, they just don't fit in with me... there was a time when my walls were covered in posters and that time was college.
anyhoo, still curious about the PJ poster deal. two people have mentioned it here so far.
-
Yeah, what the hell is up with these posters
-
"limited edition" and unique to each show... people like to collect such items
-
i gave up on posters after that whole white stripes at patriot bullshit.
-
usually a bunch of scalpers end up getting there early and make it even harder to get posters. It's just something I like to collect for the shows that I go to...

I agree to disagree on this. No Black or Crazy Mary. I'd be disappointed knowing they'd been playing both recently and didn't play either. Again, not a big fan. Between the 1000's of Pearl Jam wannabees they spawned and his idealogical ramblings, I'd just as soon they disbanded after 10. But hey, that's just me. To each their own. The only band that still holds up in my eyes from that scene is Screaming Trees. I still throw some of that in the player now and again.
-
Great show last night. Didn't win the "lottery" for the first two rows, but had 6th row center (between Jeff and Ed), so couldn't have asked for much better. PJ fan club rocks!
Didn't get out of DC area in time to make it for KoL set.. seen them enough @ the club anyway.. They made it out to join in on Rockin' i.t.f.w. to end the show. McCready threw hadfuls of picks, Vedder about 6-8 tambourines, a couple flew nearby, but Matt Cameron threw four sticks at the end.. and I caught one. :)
Not the greatest set list imo, but from the 6th row, I wouldn't have cared if they played all show tunes. ..can't wait 'til Thursday, Kosmo!
Set 1 Long Road, Corduroy, Severed Hand, All Night, I Am Mine, Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town, Faithfull, Low Light, Evacuation, Given To Fly, Green Disease, Not For You/Modern Girl, Sleight Of Hand, Even Flow, Wishlist, Insignificance, Do The Evolution, Rearviewmirror
Encore 1 Comatose, Why Go, Better Man, Jeremy
Encore 2 Guaranteed, Alive, Rockin' In The Free World
side note: if you go to www.pearljam.com (http://www.pearljam.com) , click on set lists, you can go to the individual show set lists and not only see what was played, but you can click on each song and it links to a page that tells you how many times the song has been played, what show it was first played at, the last show, and lists all in between. Kinda geeky, but pretty cool.

good to see PJ are becoming as dorky as radiohead fans (http://www.58hours.com/)... my worlds start to converge :)

There for DC show...and Samsfresh5: He threw the stick to you as a professional courtesy: From one great drummer to another! See you Sunday.

so predictable...soooo boring.....

Show was great, noticed lots of cougars. Couple next to me as well. Next show will be Sun in DC.

Am I the only one hoping that they play 'man of the hour' in dc?
-
Virginia Beach show was awesome!! I won the lottery and ended up on the front row all the way on Mike's side (the only 2 seats in ORCH 3). Incredible. The Ten Club is just amazing.
At the end of the set, I caught Jeff Ament's wristband (And to top that, I caught Nikko McBrain's drumstick last night at the Maiden show!). :)
The VA Beach setlist was just OK, but it was truly a surprise to hear "Evacuation" come back for the first time since '03. I thought it was the most hated PJ song, but I guess Eddie thought otherwise.
"Evacuation," "Faithfull," "All Night," and "Guaranteed" were the only new songs I hadn't seen yet. Otherwise, it was a fairly standard set. A lot of nice Binaural and Yield tracks ("Low Light," "Sleight of Hand," "Insignificance"), and it was nice to see "Green Disease" again.
Kings of Leon were awesome. Of all the PJ opening bands I've ever seen, I'd rank them above Sleater-Kinney, MMJ, Buzzcocks, and DCFC, but below Sonic Youth.
While "Rockin' in the Free World" was predictable, not seeing "Yellow Ledbetter" was not! I'll take "Rockin" over "YL" any day. It was also nice not seeing "Daughter."
I'll see you all in D.C. this Sunday. Let's pray for some NO CODE songs ("In My Tree" maybe??).
-
My thoughts are inside the quotes.

"Like he cares. Eddie's gonna do what Eddie wants to do."

"Of all the banter, this blows me away the most. Buzzcocks, c'mon. What, did you get to see a reunion show playing 30 year old tunes? Buzzcocks and Kings of Leon are not even in the same class IMHO."
"Kings of Leon. Sleater-Kinney. Buzzcocks. Dilemma?"

Kosmo, since I know you're a big fan, I'll give you some respect and try to make that last one my last post for this thread. I truly hope you enjoy/enjoyed the shows.
If I had to sit through Alive or Evenflow again, I don't know if I could take it. Let alone pay for it. But that's just me, the guy who'd still recommend paying to see Gibby. It is what it is.
-
no worries... I'm not one to worry about their setlists as they'll play what they want to play... but I won't say no to "bleed for me"
from the 7th row center... ted and co rocked
-
what time does the show start? when do KoL hit the stage? thanks for the info - it's going to be tight for me, tomorrow, getting to camden on time... ugh.
-
Oh, fuck off, Sparx.
Sweetcell: Kings of Leon isn't playing Camden. It's Ted Leo & The Pharmacists for the rest of the tour as of tonight. Sunday at D.C. will be my 9th PJ in 9 years, so I'm looking forward to seeing PJ and Ted Leo.
Tonight's setlist (so far):
Soundcheck (unconfirmed):
Nothing As It Seems, Rats, Love Boat Captain, U, Army Reserve
Main Set: Hard To Imagine, Corduroy, Severed Hand, Do The Evolution, All Night, In Hiding, Small Town, Gone, Who You Are, Unemployable, Even Flow, Light Years, Grievance, Given To Fly, U, Rats, Why Go
Encore 1: Love Reign O'er Me, Better Man/(Save It For Later), State Of Love And Trust, Black, Leash
Encore 2: No More

There's a difference between an opinion and just shitting on someone else's experience, though.

If that's how you interpreted it, you were wrong. It was mostly observational on my part and was meant to be generalized. I really was curious to the questions I pondered. I hope the next festival will find you with more like minded individuals. In fact. after reading it and knowing it would be misintepreted, I immediatley apologized to the moderator. I stand by my questions and statements 100%. Didn't mean to rave on your parade.

eddie had the glint in his eye and was in the mood to rock... about 30 minutes in he announced there was no curfew which explain why they didn't hit the stage until after nine and played until 11:45pm
as always a great show and i'll leave the setlist anaylsis to the experts

excellent, thanks for the info. i'm going to try my hardest to make it there on time for teddy, but it'll be tough.
-
I was kinda hoping they would have played "life wasted" to honor the guy in front of me who said he has seen dave matthews 146 times
-
beware there all these parking lots around the venue.... the one I thought would have been the most convientent in terms of leaving after the show didn't open up until the closer in ones were full...
the lot we ended up in had a big warehouse in the middle of it and while not gridlock getting out it was still slow going
there are plenty of ways to get to 676.... but it makes sense to follow someone else up those side streets
-
one more tidbit... we encountered at 3am some stop and go traffic on i-95 south of white marsh right before the beltway interchange... looks these lat night lane closures are on going...
http://www.i-95expresstolllanes.com/driver_info/ (http://www.i-95expresstolllanes.com/driver_info/)
-
thanks for the traffic tips, kosmo. i'm going to try parking in penn's landing, on the philly side, and taking the ferry across. did anyone do that last night? did it work out ok, with the late finish?
-
last tip.... if you are picking up ten club ticket be sure to get there earlier rather than later as the band actually delayed their arrival on stage so that the 500 or so people waiting for tickets could get it in...
i could see how it was a total clusterfuck to get tickets. as even around 7pm it was hard to determine which window you had to go to due to hand letter signs, beyond that it was hard to figure which line was the one even going to your designated window. thankfully, i got directed to right one as i got in a much longer line by accident at first.
-
is anyone going tonight that could pick up a poster for me????
-
i'd be happy to, but by the sounds of it i won't be there early enough to snag one.
-
Set looked great last night. I took an extra ticket for tonight's camden show, but I think last night was the show to be at. But I guess we will see, right?
-
set is the setlist

Encore 2 No More, Crazy Mary, Porch, Yellow Ledbetter

there is a part of me that wants to go out and buy a bush mask so that vedder can "impale" it on a microphone stand and retire bushleaguer in dc..
-
word over at the PJ message board is that someone arrived at 8:30 and posters were still available... they also give you a wristband so you get the poster after the show is over on your way out...
-
If this is not shitting all over someone's experience and laughing at them for what they like, I don't know what is. Alot of people think it's cool to get a pick or a drumstick or some other souvenier from a show from one of your favorite bands. It doesn't mean that you have to put it on an altar and worship it. I really like to go through an old box that I have that has a few of these items now and then.. brings back great memories for me.

I've seen fingers broken and other tragedy's due to the overzealousness of some fans trying to get a pick or whatever before someone else. Seems silly TO ME. I could get out said shoebox and do the same reminiscing with ticket stubs w/out resorting to diving over and possibly injuring someone for a souvenir."

Well now this, I COMPLETELY agree with.. As a matter of fact, I said to my g/f when Eddie was throwing the tambourines.. "if one of those comes our way, I'm getting out of the way" ..silly to me how people fight over that stuff and I see that all the time.. However, in my case the other night, the sticks were thrown directly in my direction, and I happened to catch one.. didn't dive or knock anyone out of the way, etc... but that's not what your initial quote was talking about.. (diving/pushing for sticks/picks, etc.) You said:
"I don't get the allure of this. Do you put them on an altar in worship? Sell them on ebay? Are you still in your teens? They're just veteran musicians not "enter savior of choice."
Which is busting on someone for having/collecting them... and you say "I was just asking" ..so why didn't you ask if he put them in a box or collected them? ..instead of asking snarky questions like "Are you still in your teens?" ..because the dude is glad he got a stick or a wristband... which imo is shitting on him for being excited about having a souvenier... there's a difference.
When you go to the RnR HoF in Cleveland.. there's memorabilia everywhere... so having a pick or a drumstick as a piece of history/memorabilia/souvenier = cool
...diving/pushing/fighting for such memorabilia = not cool.

That's because I don't get the allure to this. Those "snarky" comments were possible explanations I could think of at the moment. Didn't think of the "putting them in a box" scenario. Seems like that would defeat the whole purpose. To each his own. I'm glad you got a stick and didn't fight over it. You are the exception to the rule. If people want memorabilia, just purchase it from the band, not participate in a scrum. The band would appreciate it as well. Wouldn't me asking him if he keeps them all in a box be "snarky" also?
Edit: Strike that question. I promised to try to refrain from going further down this road.

Any reviews of Camden night 2? Looks like a pretty decent setlist (NAIS is one of my favorites), though I'd prefer night 1. Cool to see a reverse Mamasan trilogy in the second encore.
Set List: Severed Hand, Brain Of J, Animal, Dissident, Low Light, Down, Nothing As It Seems, Green Disease, Love Boat Captain (intro Only),Corduroy, Even Flow, Thin Air, Daughter/War (by Whitfield/Strong), Insignificance, W.M.A., Do The Evolution, Whipping, Better Man, Why Go
Encore 1: Lukin, Comatose, Given To Fly, Rearviewmirror
Encore 2: Footsteps, Once, Alive, Baba O'Riley (by Pete Townshend)

I won't take offense to your questions even if you came across as a dick.
I didn't fight or push for either the wristband or drumstick. I was front row for the Pearl Jam show thanks to the Ten Club lottery, and it was about 30 rows closer than I'd ever been before (in 7 previous shows). Jeff threw the wristband right to me, and I found it to be very cool since they've been my favorite band since the early 90's. I'll probably store it with my 15 framed Pearl Jam posters and wear it to Pearl Jam shows as dorky as it may seem. It may have been cooler 10 years ago when I was 16, but it still means something to me.
I caught the Iron Maiden drumstick out of luck. I'm taller than many in the crowd, and he threw it right at me. Again, I'll probably just put it in a box and show it to my dad the next time I see him. He raised me on Iron Maiden (one of my all-time favorites as well), so it has a special meaning.
I can't blame you for disputing the Kings of Leon comment. Obviously the Buzzcocks, Sleater-Kinney, My Morning Jacket, and Death Cab for Cutie are more well established, and I'm a big fan of S-K and MMJ. I just found the Kings of Leon performance to be better than the others. They rock.

Anyone have any ideas if it'd be safe to take Metro (ie: wouldn't get stranded) or would it be better to drive? I really have no idea.
-
i'm taking metro, and i'm sure there will be a lot of others. you should be fine.

solid performance by the band. had to leave after the first encore, mildly bitter about that. Dissident, Daughter/War and W.M.A. were the highlights for me. ten club seats were only so-so - halfway back of the 200's, center. luckily the venue is relatively small so still had a great view and excellent sound. funny moment: eddy walks out on stage, double-fisting. says he wants to buy everyone a beer - but the problem is, there is a two-beer limit. proceeds to hand off the two beers he has in his hands to the front row, asks folks to take a sip and pass it on. my girlfriend said it was arguably the most adorable thing anyone has every done at a rock concert this side of snow patrol :(
-
eddie was making good on his promise from the night before when he found out beer was $12 a pop, blamed you know who for beer costing $100 a barrel... did mccready buy two non-alcoholic beers, he was suppose to split the cost.
and speaking of drunken males... sam and i witness testosterone gone wrong as two car full of "alpha" males decided to go give an earful to the driver of another car who got in front of them pulling out of the parking lot... you would have thought someone's girlfriend got oogled or something the way they were carrying on... the idiotic thing is had they not decided to show their plumage and strut around they would have all been five minutes closer to home

Why thank you, serpent boy. Likewise as far as your initial reply. Had you answered me initially with above response rather than with a knee jerk defensive reaction, we may have been able to save Sams panties from bunching. It's all good.I'm glad ya got souvenirs from your favorite band without having to maim someone. For the record, it's not the 1st time I've come across as a dick via the written word on a message board. Those on here that know me would probably tell ya I'm not really a dick. Well, most of em. However, my cup of sarcasm sometimes runneth over.

If any of you guys are still looking for single tickets they must have released some today on ticketmaster. I pulled some good seats from 120 and 121. Too bad I already got a ticket in 105. I thought about buying the closer seat in 120 but it will be a pain in the ass for me to sell my other ticket. Go get those tickets!!
-
Had a quick question too. I have a 105 ticket section Q. Now is that on the floor because on the map it shows 105 too or is this in the stands??? Anyone know? Thanks
-
i'm fairly certain that 105/Q is in the stands, not on the floor.
-
Great
-
anyone up for a little pre-game?
if the train gods are merciful upon me, i'll be at RFD (http://www.lovethebeer.com/rfd.html) around 6:30, having a bite and a drink (but just one, really, i swear...)
i'll probably be wearing a blue university of kentucky t-shirt (go wildcats!). PM me if you need additional info, i can read it on my phone (but include alternate contact info, as replying to PMs is a pain - e-mail is good, as is texting).
-
three of us will be at section 114, row O. Good seats?

you're not going to like the show anyways, so does it really matter where your seats are? :p

Gonna have to say that the DC show was better than Camden 1. Ted Leo played a more inspired set with loads of new material.
Pearl Jam strung together more up-tempo rockers and downplayed the extended jams in DC. Eddie had his serious face on for most of the evening... Now when is that secret fan club show at the club again?

2008-06-22 Washington D.C. Verizon Center
Set 1 Hard To Imagine, Severed Hand, Hail Hail, Do The Evolution, Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town, Evacuation, Corduroy, I'm Open, I Am Mine, I Got Id, Daughter, Light Years, Even Flow, Green Disease, You Are, U, Who You Are, Why Go
Encore 1 Comatose, Sad, Given To Fly, Come Back, Grievance, Black, Rearviewmirror
Encore 2 No More, Last Kiss, Crazy Mary, Alive, All Along The Watchtower, Yellow Ledbetter
31 songs almost 3 hours!
-
Ted Leo was gggggrrrrrrreatttt...
This show was way better than the 06 show. Great to see some Binaural songs on the setlist as well as WHO YOU ARE(!).
Other than that, I did not care for the hits, namely Alive and Even Flow.
-
Wow! That crowd was unbelievably loud tonight. Of 9 shows, that was the best crowd.
The setlist was great. 31 songs. 5 songs I had never seen before (Hard to Imagine, I'm Open, Who You Are, No More, All Along the Watchtower). The "You" trilogy of "You Are," "U," and "Who You Are" was wonderful. That was easily the best "Rearviewmirror" I've ever seen.
I loved "Hard to Imagine" as an opener. What a beautiful song. "Hail Hail" --> "Do the Evolution" really set the tone for the night.
"Come Back" sounded great. I'm glad they brought it back on this tour.
I'm sure Ted Leo fans enjoyed his set. It just isn't my thing.
EDIT: Why abandon "Evacuation"?! I love that song. I was at the back of the floor; did anyone see who fucked up? Was it Stone?
-
great show better than va beach ted Leo good didnt know they were that hard
-
I never realized Pearl Jam was a semi-jam band. Then again, I haven't heard anything since maybe their third album. This show was probably better for the hardcore fans. I wish the Pumpkins would follow the lead and stop doing greatest hits shows all the time.
-
from the politico's daily playbook:
CHATTER: At last night's PEARL JAM concert at the Verizon Center, lead singer Eddie Veder made a comment against offshore drilling, prompting some in the expensive seats to begin chanting, 'Drill! Drill!' Lead guitarist Mike McCready ends by playing 'The Star-Spangled Banner,' a la Jimi Hendrix.
Spotted (but not chanting): Rob and Rebecca NICHOLS, Howard WOLFSON and Katie LEVINSON.
-
pretty sure Mark Messier was in the stands...
-
Personally, I thought they seemed sloppy last night...great set list, and Eddie is always entertaining...but I didn't think they came across as very tight.
-
Strong performance as usual. "Workmanlike" is the term I always use to describe a PJ show.
The crowd was VERY into it. I loved the pogoing during "Given To Fly". I did spend the whole show slightly distracted by the baseball-cap-wearing knuckleheads in front of us. I don't see many guys do the "rock out" sign (with your pinkie, index, and thumb out) with zero irony.
BTW, after we do something about the concert talkers our next mission will be to take on the farters.
-
great show. i was expecting eddy to get all political on us, what with it being the last show PJ will play here under the bush presidency... strange that he didn't. he was definitely chattier in camden. maybe he's still hung over from those shows :)
the band created a Perfect Moment™ during "black". phenomenal.
