I think he's doing a late announced gig in Atlanta tomorrow too. No word on if the puppets are making the trip.
-
Could someone please confirm.deny this asap. The link you provided offers the same limited information...info on tickets?
-
I'll add circumstantial evidence:
He's in New York to play on Letterman tonight (filmed in the early afternoon).
He's definitely playing Atlanta tomorrow night.
DC is on the way to Atlanta.
-
Washington Post blog lists it as confirmed by door staff, tickets on sale at 9pm. Advises being in line, oh, an hour ago.
-
Take this for what it's worth: http://blog.washingtonpost.com/goingoutgurus/2006/10/secret_information.html (http://blog.washingtonpost.com/goingoutgurus/2006/10/secret_information.html)
I think it's on and have someone waiting in line right now.
-
I'm already down there. It's pretty crowded. I'm about the 25th person in line.
-
I thought you are in SF??
Can you get me a ticket? I'll pay you?
HEHE

$12 PER TICKET, 1 TICKET PER PERSON. NO ONE CAN BUY MORE THEN 1 TICKET SO IF YOU'RE NOT THERE SOON, YOU'RE SCREWED.
60-70 PEOPLE IN LINE ALREADY.
-
OH MY GOD, I am so bummed that I can't make it! If it was a weekend I would be there in a flash. :(
-
Can't believe he's not making a bigger show in DC. The NYC/NJ area got like 4 shows.
-
holy moly. This will certainly be an insane mob scene. Although I still wish I'd known earlier, what with living like 6 blocks away. Beck puts on a good show.
-
Holy shit would I have loved to have seen this earlier. RSS would be handy in situations like this!
-
Either that or Dante Ferrande sending us a text message on our cell phones!
-
I'd take that too. Now, Dante's going to get a shitload of PMs with people's cell phone numbers...sweet...
-
i really wish more musicians would do things like this. I love it when bands play secret or non-publicized shows in much smaller venues than they're used to.
you can argue that this means everybody doesn't get to see them, but the important thing is that the people that are on their toes, do.
more bands should do this.
-
I got there at around 8:30 for the apples show and think I could've gotten in if I stuck around. Someone in line close by did a headcount and got something like 130. Unfortunately, I couldn't stay because I was relying on metro to get me home. The apples were fun if anyone cares.
-
the show was phenomenol. funky as all get out. worth the loooooong wait any day.
-
setlist?
-
setlist will have to come tomorrow -need to grab a few zzz's before tomorrow. ugh. played a lot of request from the crowd. very intimate.
what an incredible show. absolute clusterf*ck figuring out how the lines worked (or didn't), but if you stuck around you could get in. i got there at 7:30, eventually got in.
i spent 80% of the show stuck against the stage - incredible. funky as all hell. i held the backup/keyboard dude's cowbell twice. they played fro about 1:10, no encore. the show wasn't so much mind-blowing as dissarming: these guys got off a plane, played on someone else's instruments (for the most part) and kicked major ass. a girl close to the band took position as a bouncer in front of the stage- beck's GF?!? kick-ass :)
spoke with justin (bassist) after the show, he totally enjoyed himself and looked forward to coming back to DC.
killer evening. once again, these late shows are going to kill me... but totally worth it. top 5, possibly top 3 show of the year in term of how much i enjoyed it.
-
did they use the bc stage, pa and lights? or did the supplement it? that place is so small it would be hard bring more stuff in. the stage must have been crowded.
-
I'm sorry I missed it! Hope you all had fun.
-
damn...
WOuld've loved to have seen that show.
IF anyone has anymore details about the show, please post them!
thanks

yes, no, and yes. only PA i saw were two suspended bins which i assume are the house PA, nothing else. from where i was most of the night (up against stage), there was no PA to be heard - it was all amps. i don't remember seeing any mics on the drums, so the PA (and for the front rows, stage monitors) were mostly vocals. not the best sound, mix was understandably off a little, but definitely acceptable.
6 people on that small stage: beck (guitar/vocals), second guitarist/vocals, keys/cowbell/backup singer, way funky drummer, bassist, and maracas/cowbell/cheerleader dude. no puppets.
the place was a flash-fest so i'm sure pix will pop up online, eventually.

Here's what I remember being played. There aren't in order and I think I'm missing 1 or 2.
Devil's Haircut
Freaks
Nicotine and Gravy
Do You Realize
Paper Tiger
Guess I'm Doing Fine (speed version)
Girl
Black Tambourine
Hell Yes
Go It Alone
Think I'm in Love
Nausea
Motorcade
-
Wow...it sounds amazing.
He did something similar in San Francisco in 2002 at the Exploratorium...one of the best shows I have ever seen.
-
man thats cool
beck....i am just destined to never see him!
-
also played "Wraith Pinned to The Mist and Other Games" by Of Montreal
-
also, from the middle of the room on one of the riser things, the mix was pretty good actually. I could hear all parts pretty well. It was an excellent really dancy set. Best show.
-
I hate you all, but then again i saw Beck at the Download Festival last month...but he couldn't live up to the set by MUSE :)
-
12 years ago today beck played a show at the old 930 club. was anyone there? that same night the jesus and mary chain played at WUST, what is now the 930 club. i remember this clearly because i was not allowed to go to either show as i was in a situation similar to young betty at the time. bummer. i did see beck at the "new" 930 a couple years later in august 96. modest mouse opened. that was a fun show.
-
Man, I almost forgot about Modest Mouse opening that show! Don't forget, though; Money Mark, the Beastie's keyboardist, opened as well.
I couldn't make the old 9:30 show because of age either, but an older group of friends made it, and were invited in early by Beck who made them PBJ sandwiches...at least that's how their story goes.
I'll never forget Beck asking the audience at the newer 9:30 show if they wanted to hear "Lampshade," and no one responding except my friends and I (who were intensely obesessed with all things Beck). Still a little bummed about that; I've seen him perform some rarer songs, but that would've been fantastic!

MUSE did rock. Even Beck said he hoped he could rock as hard as Muse someday.
-
yep, the two MMs opening for beck. i wasn't too into money mark, it got old after a while. modest mouse played a nice and agitated set, though. maybe. who knows how accurate my memories are? i definitely do remember beck playing a very, very early version of "debra" that just brought the house down. right?

meant to post this last night: Beck's geek cred (http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/14.09/beck.html)
included are links to a few (old) pix... i haven't found any of last night's show, yet. anyone else come across any?
-
i like that David knows how i felt last night. it was pretty brutal. i can't IMAGINE missing The Jesus and Mary Chain...oh man. ohhhh man.
did you ever get to see them, before...you know?
-
I am so jealous right now.
-
This is why the Good Lord invented saying goodnight, going to your room, stuffing a dummy in your bed and climbing down the side of the house on a ladder, and hitchiking into town to see the show!

I was at that show and it was amazing, as you remember that it was a very small place. I was a dead Deadhead and got a pic with Beck after the show, I will search for the pic and post.

I was at the JAMC show...Mazzy Star opened up and Hope Sandoval was wearing angel wings I think. I actually have the setlist...for old time's sake:
Snakedriver
Taste the Floor
Blues From a Gun
Come On
Hole
Head On
Happy When It Rains
Girlfriend
Everybody I Know
9 Million Rainy Days
Catchfire
Sidewalking
Teenage Lust
Sugar Ray
---------------------
Sometimes Always (w/Hope Sandoval)
Reverence

Heh... I've only seen Jesus And Mary Chain once, but it was amazing... it was during the Rollercoaster tour, in Brighton England sometime around 91ish. They were playing with Dinosaur Jr., My Bloody Valentine, Blur, and Curve. The place was essentially a high school gymnasium, packed to bursting with thousands of sweating, ecstasy-crazed British teenagers all dancing their asses off.
After the show, everyone piled out onto the streets chanting "we are the mods." Just kidding, but the rest is all true -- the only time I've ever flown across the Atlantic to see a show, and totally worth it.

well yeah, but even if i did this, i'm not sure how safe i'd be going down there late at night all by myself...and furthermore, would only pay for a cab under extreme extreme circumstances as the metro doesn't go directly to my house and the bus DOES stop running at one point...
i've thought this through, buddy.
