hey i was just wondering, is it pretty safe to walk from the metro station to 9:30 club?

We haven't heard otherwise.   There may be bums hassling you for change but they  are, generally speaking, more a nuisance than a danger.   As with being in any major metropolitan area,  you should be aware of your surroundings and know where you are going.  In this case you should exit the U Street Cardozo - African American Civil War Memeorial station of the Green line via the Vermont St. exit.  At the top of the escalator do an about-face and then head to the right down U Street.  Left on 9th and then one block up on the right is the club.
