Are you dressing up?
-
I'll be there, and, no, I will not be in costume.
-
Yes to the being there. No to the costume.
Anybody else notice Jakov's Suite in the Nissan commercial? My favorite song on the Loon, now all's I can think of is that Nissan commercial when I play it.

No, I will not be in costume.
Yes, I saw the Nissan commercial.
Really looking forward to seeing Annuals.

I really want to go. Whether that translates to, I'm going, remains to be seen.
-
Will also be there and not in costume. The new dosh album is great; looking forward to his set too.
-
I emailed the band about asking it to be a non-smoking show :) Hopefully they will ask ;)

Ditto. I'm finally going to be there for an opener...it's going to be a long night. Hopefully, I'll be close to the front and can finally get some decent photos. The Cat is always crazy dark.

How in hell did I not notice that Annuals were opening this show? I'd have gone if I had. :(

Tapes 'n Tapes were wonderful! One of the best Black Cat shows I've been to this year, I think. I was surprised at how basic their setup was. They have such a full sound on their album that I expected a large group and/or a lot of funky instruments and/or laptop computers, but other than the French horn or whatever that was, which was used rather sparingly, they had a basic four-person setup of guitar, bass, keyboards, and drums. Lots of energy though, lots of fun. They played some new material, too, which I liked quite a bit, foreshadowing a solid follow-up album.
Annuals were decent, I thought. I was impressed by their guitarist. They played with a lot of enthusiasm and energy that unfortunately wasn't at all returned by the audience.
I got there too late for Doush. How were they?

I enjoyed Dosh's set a lot. I think he's a bloody talented dude. Although, I'm not sure if he was quite the appropriate opener for Tapes 'n' Tapes for everyone. Nonetheless, his music's great, IMO.
I enjoyed Annuals energy too, but I just couldn't dig much on their tunes...I'll try the record maybe.
TnT were solid. Again, great high energy, and I too expected a more elaborate setup. But I think that the songs translated well. However, I wasn't really blown away. I think in the end it was just a good solid show. And it was a baritone, French horn's are much smaller, more circular and much, much higher-pitched :)
Setlist for TnT:
1) Just Drums
2) Iliad
3) Beach Curles (I think that's what it was called)
4) Insistor
5) In Houston
6) 10 Gallon Ascots
7) Icebergs
8) Omaha
9) 50's Sprocket
10) Manitoba
11) Cowbell
12) Jackson's Suite
Encore - "Sweet 'n' Low" (old hip-hop song)

Freakin' Amazing show. It made me appreciate the slower songs from the album, esp. 10 Dollar Ascots.
Annuals were great as well but probably a mismatch with the Tapes. Dosh is a one person "band"...good stuff as well.

Thanks for the set list. Some minor edits: #3 is actually Beach Girls, #12 is Jakov's Suite (aka Nissan commercial. It's such a great song.)
I thought it was an all around good concert. I didn't know the Annuals or Dosh but really enjoyed both of their sets. Not a bad night for 12 bucks.

It's a drag that copies of the EP are no longer available.
They were out at the 6.8 Fletcher's show and I was hoping to pick one up last night...oh well.

Once I got there last night I immediately ran to the merch table to see if they had copies. I've been trying to get a copy of their EP since the Loon came out. I actually emailed the band at that time about it. They basically said that they didn't have any plans to re-release it. But this was months ago so maybe since the increased exposure it'll be re-released.
-
Why not just download it? I'm sure there are copies on Soulseek.

Thanks Terry. It was definitely a good night for $12.
