I say the High Dials by a mile, though I know the High Strung are a forum favorite. I like a few tracks but it doesn't really slay me the way the High Dials stuff does.

there are about 6 or 7 high strung fans on the board, 3 of them no longer live in dc, hardly call them a forum favorite, and based on album sales i would say high strung are underrated

Are you saying the High Strung sell more albums? Can't tell what you mean.
So maybe there not a forum favorite, but they come up often enough for such a small-time band.

i am saying that the High Strung sell less albums and are therefore more underrated, that is just my perception
and they come up because I think the same few people always bring them up, I only say there are not a lot of fans because I have been to several shows of theirs where I pretty much know who everybody in the crowd is

I would say both The High Strung and especially The High Dials are under appreciated. The High Dials are getting noticed by the few and until they get hyped by those who think they know will just continue making great music in the shadows. The High Strung like countless other small time rock bands aren't going to set the world on fire with originality, but they are certainly better at what they do then many acts that garner heaps of attention from the masses.

There were about 10 people in the audience for the High Strung show at Iota. Six of them were in the opening act. I stayed for about 40 mins, but unfortunately wasn't impressed with the new stuff soon to be recorded.
I don't know the music of the High Dials.

A quickie little update on the High Dials. They will be releasing a video for Holy Ground in a few weeks and are working on album #3 (a few songs are already recorded).
So hopefully we can count on hearing some new stuff and maybe seeing them in the spring. *fingers crossed*

I heard "Holy Ground" somewhere a few months ago and it's quite promising. The High Dials' albums are very tight and their live shows are usually pretty good, as most of you already know.
FYI: The Baltimore/DC area is one of their strongest markets so you know they will definitely keep us on their tour list. ;)

You can hear Holy Ground on their MySpace page.
By the way, High Dials fans should make an effort to check out Sam Roberts when he plays the Black Cat later this month. Sam and Trevor are friends from way back. I think you can hear some common musical influences, especially in Sam Robert's more "trippier" moments.
