i thought of that as well
i also bet there is some kind of problem with the early mini macs
but the cube was just a different shape, this is actually very small and could be put away, with a wireless mouse and keyboard and a flat screen it would be great

I guess this has a purpose.... throw away the beige box with evil inside, but keep your monitor, mouse and keyboard. It needs to be marketed that way. I wonder if apple could grab some market share if it does this well......

It's clearly an enterprise move in an attempt to capitalize on your iPod/iTunes marketability.
Take the cheap machine and add an office suite (of course, you'll have to throw an i in front of it, so AppleWorks and make it iWorks) and see if you can make a dent in enterprise solutions.
It's probably a few years over due, but a good business move. Of course, it's not innovative in the slightest.

is that as good as a regular computer though?
does it have the same power and capabilites as a regular Apple? or is it a big Ipod you can pretty much just watch movies and download music on?

Yep, its just like an imac or ibook without the screen, keyboard and pointy thing.

It's a full fledged computer using a G4 chip instead of a G5 chip. Not as powerful as the high end machines, but it doesn't pretend to be. It's marketed to do basic multimedia computing (music library ripping/download/burning) and desktop office tasks.

Make her get her own, get yourself something really innovative like a TiVo.

I'll have an Ipod before i get a TIVO.

what does she try and do on it that is so slow, I still use a G3 for all of my music purposes, it is not fast by any means, but it does the job nicely

Yeah, what speed G4? It might just need cleaning up, re-installing the OS..... It might not be super quick, but it should not be as slow as Econo.

I assumed this thread would be about me...

At least somebody's moving towards tomorrow. I'm sure Apple will have their own DVR by 2007.

well its her primary computer. she does graphic design, so illustrator, quark and all that just doesnt cut it for her. and her internet is MUCH slower than mine, running off the same router.

well she she will always want as fast as she can get then, but I bet if she backed up all of her work on to an external drive and reinstalled the os and basically started again from scratch it would run much better, but I guess that really cant be done unless she has copies of all the software

I dont think tivos are evil because they arent good at what they do or are aren't innovative, I just dont like it because of what it accomplishes, more tv
I watch enough tv as it is with just 4 channels, tivo would be then end of me doing anything productive, and I dont even like tv much, but I am very good at sitting in front of it and doing nothing, I would much rather be using a mini mac rather than a tivo
I wont be buying either
maybe apple will release a dvr once sony buys them and scraps the vaio and releases the playstation dvr as designed by apple to compete with the xbox dvr

Fuck you too, Mark.

Yeah a g4, especially older one really wont cut it for heavy graphics apps. It should run safari quickly enough though....
