 Question: what about point-and-shoot digitals? (like a Canon Sureshot)?  Those are by no means "professional"...

Sometimes yes,  sometimes no.  It all depends on what the band's definition of pro is which varies from night to night.  If you bring a digital camera just ask at the front door and if you can't bring it in just check it at the desk and pick it up after the show.
