Title: Swedish Indie Pop
Post by: HoyaSaxa03 on December 24, 2008, 10:56:48 am
why are the swedes so fucking good at crafting pitch-perfect indie pop?

every swedish band i stumble across is just awesome

my man crush on jens lekman is well-established in these parts... i found http://www.last.fm/music/Sambassadeur (http://www.last.fm/music/Sambassadeur) today and i'm loving http://www.last.fm/music/Acid+House+Kings (http://www.last.fm/music/Acid+House+Kings), http://www.last.fm/music/Irene (http://www.last.fm/music/Irene), and http://www.last.fm/music/The+Tallest+Man+on+Earth (http://www.last.fm/music/The+Tallest+Man+on+Earth)

who else should i be listening to?

are these people even that popular in sweden?

i was playing poker in vegas with this swedish guy a couple of months ago and he hadn't heard of ANY of these bands... granted, the guy was in his 30s and didn't seem like he cared about music, but still

Tallest Man on Earth is grrreat!

Also, try The Legends.

Actually, search for any bands from Labrador Records...

Hah...I have no idea.

On a somewhat related note, I found a compilation disc of recent experimental music from Gothenburg and on it was none other than Jens Lekman's DJ. So while he's not helping Jens reproduce his irresistable sugary pop on tour, he's creating some really dark ambient/noise pieces.

Oh, crap. I think that if you stumbled while there, you'd fall into about 5 of them all at once. I've been suspecting that all of the Scandanavians, including Iceland, are all brought up with a very good and intensive music education. Don't know that for a fact though.

Off the top of my head and this will include some from other Scandanavian countries:

Hearts Of Black Science
Kent
Mew
The Early Days
Epo-555
Northern Portrait
Windermere
The White Birch
Douglas Heart (the band, not the man)
Antifilm
The Audreys
The Radio Dept.
LKWRM
Heaviness
Acid House Kings
Twigs
Mum
Celestial
Xero-Kline
Swoon
Stafrænn Hákon
The Flaming Sideburns

I have an ex-gf that's obsessed with Swedish indie pop.  I never quite caught on, but I still do thoroughly enjoy:

Jens Lekman (duh)
Shout Out Louds
The Radio Dept.
