when he was on stern promoting it, he seemed like the most boring person on the planet, who also was the most conceited.

You know - the only times I've really enjoyed him he was surrounded by a great cast... Usual Suspects, 21 Grams, Traffic...  Other than that - he doesn't really carry anything on his own. IMO
