Time to flood your email box with obscure BS bands that only some
dorky ass kid rocking a rusted shut shirt, and John Fahey on his zune
would care about.
DNA TEST FEST is April 24-25th at The Velvet Lounge in Washington DC.
It is 18+, not 21+ like some of the rumors have said.
Tickets are 10 Dollars for 1 Day, 15$ for both (15 bands, 15 dollars,
you can't beat that, most of you all are privileged college kids, you
can put off your weekly shopping at the ironic thrift store and buying
stupid cds at insound.com for one week)
THERE IS NO GUEST LIST DONT ASK, I CANT GET YOU IN FOR FREE, I DONT
CARE IF YOU ARE MY BFF OR IF YOU KNOW GREG GINN OR VARG YOU WILL NOT
GET IN FOR FREE!
Both days START AT 7:30 SHARP...come early. No one cares if you're
"that guy" cause you probably already are.
Velvet Lounge info:
915 U Street NW, Washington, DC

FAN DEATH RECORDS will have a sellers table there as well. Get some
rad records (FNU Ronnies, Clockcleaner, Fathers day etc) that will fit

Day 2 is massive.
Most likely in for both.
Full disclosure: Joe is a candy raver bitch and will be going to Baltimore/Philly for Simian Mobile Disco over this.
Everyone point and laugh and throw shit at him.

I am going to do my best to keep this going so the more people come the longer I can do it, the cheaper I can keep it.
I will be manning the fan death table, say hi
pick up a "ask me about rap" pin

Listening to Drunkdriver - Born Pregnant. Completely floored by this right now. ;D Best release of 2008?

-
So I know you're at home right now getting stoked about that free
shitty flaming lips show and hanging out with bro's that take both the
flaming lips and the mars volta as seriously as they take their day
time co op food jobs. Keep in mine test fest II is almost a week away.
Need I remind you of how awesome the line up is? Day 1 will be the
place to be so you can take those totally awesome facebook pictures with your friends while
wearing big ironic glasses and looking like a grade A moron. Armida and her Imaginary band are kicking
things off for us, and the new ep is a killer. Screen Vinyl Image and
True Womanhood are gonna slay. Also Rosemary Krust will blow you away
with their twee harsh noise. I know I know day 2 is a total sausage
fest, but kurt vile is playing, you dont wanna miss that.
We'd love to be able to document the fest. Josh Sisk, an awesome
photographer from charm city is coming out to cover day one you can
see his work in Rolling Stone, Spin, URB, Decibel, Blender, XLR8R,
Revolver, Pitchforkmedia etc etc. (http://www.joshsisk.com). We need
more for day one and day two. Your shitty iphone camera doesn't count,
and no one wants to see some shitty post modern Polaroid crap so keep
it in your pants. If you got what it takes, email me. You will get in
for free, and maybe I will buy you a drink. We are still working out
the DJ situation for the chose few. Don't worry, You wont hear MIA for
the 10000000th time, nor will you hear music that sounds like the
windows_startup.wav ran through a trash can mic'd up, and repeated for
10 mins. If I did talk to you about DJing consider yourself part of
the elite, or a loser for even considering DJing your sorry excuse for
music at this thing.
I recommend for the second night coming fairly early (though day 1
might be the same way), one to see all the bands, but two this day
might be packed. Don't be lame by pre gaming at DC9 and listening to
their jukebox that plays bad rap and bands like the faint. No one
cares how early you are, you aren't that important, and who would
wanna miss twin stumps? Dudes dressed as interpol playing flipper on
crack.
Anyways get in touch if you can help out, get stoked, get ready to GO OFF.
-
This next week is gonna be a rager thats for sure. You can stop listening to that 30th blank dogs release that come out this year that sounds like synth farts going goth, and be slayed by three awesome shows all in the span of a week.
TOTALLY WEIRD FEST
Man this fest rules, it's kinda DNA's big brother fest. If I could i'd be going. The first day looks INSANELY GOOD. Baby bird is killer, and Berdan will be watching scrubs until the band is due to play.

CLOCKCLEAN ER DIES
This humorless, sorry excuse for a "punk" band is calling it quits so one dude can make babies, another can start his own sub pop jr, and another can live in Richmond Virginia doing what? I dunno. Say goodbye to this band, Tell them they tired to hard, or not enough. Maybe they'll do that "whitehouse cover". Did I mention the LAMPS are playing? This is also "sold out", but if you do your best you might be able to get in.

DNA TEST FEST II
Tired of my emails and posts yet? This bullshit of a city called DC should be excited for something that doesn't sound like the rapture meets fugazi 2.0. It's about time people put down the tallboy PBR's at DC9 and listen to some not so shitty bands. And the Frodus runion is dumb.

-
You thinking it'll be a good turnout? I was planning on making it out on Saturday, but probably won't be able to until later on that night. Sell out possible/likely?

-

-
i wouldnt worry though
-
Cool...thanks for the heads up. Here's hoping I can at least get there in time for Drunkdriver. Any thoughts on a time they'll be playing?
put it this way...lounge shows rarely sell out...youll get in
-

drunkdriver's lp is sickkk. hope they'll have it on sale.
-
they will...also they will have the 7"
-
The very last new flesh flesh show ever?
posted by greg of the new flesh
we'll be finishing writing/recording our new album in May but have no plans to play shows then or in the summer unless it's extremely lucrative or if we deem the show a necessity to play. We may play shows in the fall if our schedules can align.
Saturday will be our final show with many great bands: Twin Stumps are awesome, Drunkdriver is my favorite new band, Kurt Vile's new 12" is awesome & Pink Reason will all be riding the blog-buzz wave on Saturday with our final set for a while in the middle of the show. It is likely to sell-out before we play.
Also make an attempt to make it Friday to see Pfisters because their new album (which is going to be on Fan Death) is awesome and they work really hard and are great live. Pygmy Shrews (formerly Cutter of NYC) are fucking great too.
So you get our final show for a while and a bunch of awesome bands following... the hottest show in DC all year. Hopefully we'll see ya there cuz you may never see us again!
-
You know the set times for Friday yet?

Editorial Review
There's basically an entire year's worth of noisy, weird, and really underground music this weekend at the Velvet Lounge for the second DNA Test Fest. It's hard to find one defining sound for the festival, but that's sort of the point. Sure, most of the bands are loud, a few of them ungodly so, but their unifying theme is simply "good, weird stuff." Friday's seven-band lineup is headlined by a pair of local bands making both figurative and literal noise. Screen Vinyl Image released the excellent "Interceptors" earlier this year, an updated take on shoegaze with plenty of screaming guitars and foreboding keyboards and vocals. The addition of a drummer has taken the live performances to the next level. It's taken less than a year for True Womanhood to rise to the top of the town's indie-rock circuit, opening for Times New Viking, Health, Crystal Antlers and more. The rest of Friday's lineup includes the 1930s-style torch songs of Armida and Her Imaginary Band, old-fashioned power pop of the Lampshades and sludge-noise freakouts of Pygmy Shrews.
The main draw on Saturday is on-the-cusp singer-songwriter Kurt Vile who is about to become your favorite bloggers' No. 1 crush. Unless your favorite blogger is David, in which case he already is. His spacey, fingerpicked, acoustic songs are hypnotic. And it will be the lone break your ears get because the rest of Saturday's bands are skull-crushingly loud. Drunkdriver sounds like you'd expect a band with that name to sound; Baltimore's the New Flesh plays hardcore heavy on the distortion and fuzz and Twin Stumps is so brutal it can only occasionally be described as actual music. You will certainly hear something new over the course of the weekend, that's for sure.
-
SVI have a drummer now? Nice. That I didn't know.

-
How was last night? I decided to be extremely lame and skip out at the last minute.
Will surely be there tonight, though!
-
>:(
stupid wedding. the drunkdriver lp hasn't left my car's cd player.
-
packed very packed
-
Awesome. Too bad the online stream was down.
-
weird i'll get on top of it
-
What a killer night of music! Everything was pretty much perfect and went off without a noticeable hitch (and if there were any hitches, they were covered up pretty damn well. :)). Thanks to Epstein and everyone else involved for putting it on as well as an excellent job doing so. Kurt Vile->Pink Reason was the perfect cool-down after the almost 3-hour noise-rock assault that was Unholy Two through Drunkdriver. And that Drunkdriver set was more than I could've asked for. Holy shit! Turnout was awesome, too. Congrats on such a successful weekend; hopefully we'll have many more like it.
-
more drunkdrvier!
-
I guess if I had to make one complaint, it's that that set should've been 3x as long.
