it makes you giddy that hollywood sux so much that all they do can is make non-necessary sequels and remakes of classic films, and attempt to make it relevant to a generation of five second attention spaned whatevers by having a neato band do the score?
-
No, it makes me happy because the original film is a fond memory from my childhood and I think that a sequel made today (whether necessary or not) could be well done. And I think that Daft Punk could do a killer score. Two great tastes that taste great together, IMO.
-
wow - hollywood to make a non-necessary movie? what are the chances?
walkies, why so bitter?
jd, "Two great tastes that taste great together" - brilliant (that, and i love reese's pieces).

i should not be bitter since tomorrow will be the greatest day of my life. but after the "new" friday the 13th remake of the original, the pink panther 1 and 2, and now this tron news, it just grinds my nerves. what happened to original trains of thought? do you see people rewriting books, re drawing art to cater to a new generation's interpretation of relevance? look at most of those "worst movie remakes of all time" lists. 90 % of them were made in the last 10 years. of course i should not be surprised at this, seeing how the most popular music of the last ten years is by "artists" who steal other people's music, put their own words to it and call it their own.

blues is NOT that popular, FYI.
-
I've never seen Tron so it's all new to me. When the origional came out I was more into riding my bike and blowing stuff up than video games and sci-fi.
But if this new one doesn't suck, I'll rent it on blu-ray since it's sure to look an sound great.

Hello - Olivia Wilde is in it! Who cares who does the score...
It's days like this that I really miss Fico. He'd feel me on this one.

I have her screenname!
And who cares about the shitty re-make, new Daft Punk is better than no Daft Punk. Even if it is Human After All 2.0

walkies, why so bitter?
thinking hollywood is a tasteless wasteland is not bitter, its observant.
-
i feel so loved. :D
-
but will they tour for their soundtrack release of the film ??? a DC date would be dandy (hint hint) ;)
-
If they actually DID his DC of the DC area, where would they play? Let's assume the set is the pyramid or something the same size. I'd say Patriot Center. Anywhere else would be a cockblock of fun. Unless they could do it at the Club.

well if DC Armoury was used for more concerts like the Arcade Fire/Jay-Z show I'd assume it could fit the DF pyramid.
as for Tron 2.0 it's my understanding that it's not a remake.
-

You are correct, it is a sequel, and it's called officially called TR2N. I see one movie a year in the theater and this is my movie for 2011.
Oh yeah, and she's in it. I'm guessing she just showed up in this outfit and they gave her the job.

that's retarded.
-
official trailer released: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJHcyGS9tkI
negatives: based on the dialogue, this film is going to try to take itself seriously.
positives: from 1:10 onwards, we get our first taste of daft punk's score.
-
as i watched that new trailer, after rereading this thread and everything i wrote prior . . . dammit if that film looks, not half bad.
-
yeah, I'm trying to not get too excited...but man it looks awesome.
there is an alternate reality game going on with the movie as well, check out http://www.flynnlives.com, after deciphering some of the clues on the site, users were led to this game:
http://www.arcadeaid.com/challengingstage/quiz.htm
if you find all 50 and log in beforehand, they send you some sort of Encom ID badge. One of the games before this, people got tron wallets.
-
I stand by my statement. It's going to be epic, even if Olivia reamins clothed.
-
based on that trailers, i'm not convinced that it will be an epic movie. lots of eye candy, sure - but that dialogue, and the hints at the storyline... <shudder>.
per hipsterrunoff (http://altreport.hipsterrunoff.com/2010/03/new-daft-punk-music-in-background-of-tron-trailer.html): "Really just want to ?cut the bull shit?, have these mp3s leak, and see if Daft Punk tying their brand to this movie was really worth it. Have a bad feeling that this movie will sort of be the ?Starship Troopers? of the 2k10s. Seems like best case scenario, it ends up being ?The Matrix? of the 2k10s."
-
soundtrack for Tron: Legacy will be released on Nov 23, according to Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Tron-Legacy-Daft-Punk/dp/B0037KMHRY/)
apparently daft punk makes an appearance in the movie - as DJs in a nightclub, inside the computer-world. their names are listed in the credits on IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1104001/). looks like they've dropped the ridiculous "TR2N" moniker.
movie will be released on Dec 17. will also come out in IMAX 3D. that should blow a few extra braincells.

preview of "The Game Has Changed" (http://www.facebook.com/#!/video/video.php?v=157607147607558)
-
do you think three d will go away after people grow bored like they did in the fifties and eighties? or will the upgrades in technology just keep it going until "virtually" everything looks like what one of my freinds called it . . . "like you are always the holodeck of the enterprise." wow, i have a friend who would say that.
-
leaked.
-
Me too, but what does that have to do with a shitty electronic act?
-
if the new tour was sponsored by four loko . . . would you break out your leather, s & m gear?
-
Breaking out implies that I ever put it away.
Every day I just want to hurt so good.
-
i listened to the soundtrack. its much more orchestral than I was expecting. its mostly boring.
-
that's what i expect most people will think.
it is a soundtrack, and they recorded it with a 70-piece orchestra... definitely not a party album.
-
I wasn't expecting a party album, but I was expecting something more like the blade runner soundtrack. the track 'The Game Has Changed' is basically what I was expecting the album to be like

We submitted our remix of "The Game Has Changed" to Disney. Not sure what it's going to be used for at this point, but I think it'll be more along the lines of what you were looking for with a "Blade Runner" Soundtrack feel.
-
I rather enjoyed it driving through the white out I endured on my way to the slopes - made for a perfect adventure. I hope to enjoy it again and again while sleeping with Olivia Wilde, whether she's there or not.
-
Reminds me quite a bit of Peter Gabrel's Passion . . . dense, tense atmospherics that grow in power with repeated listenings . . .and that's probably a good comparison on various levels. The Passion soundtrack was an unlikely follow up to So that gained stature over time when it could be appreciated outside the context of general expectation.
-
I think "Invisible Touch" is the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility, at the same time it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Christie, take off the robe.
-
Do you like Huey Lewis and the News??
-
Christian Bale, is that you?

Monster builds Daft Punk Edition Tron Headphones, unwittingly unleashes moral quandary of a generation
(http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/12/monster-tron-headphones-1-1.jpg)
We can't tell, is this (and by "this" we mean the entertainment machine that is Disney / Daft Punk / Tron / Jeff Bridges, melding with the monster that is Monster, and creating a pair of $350 ultra-glossy headphones) the ultimate payoff of our childhood hopes and dreams, or their ultimate ruination and desecration? Both?

congrats on subscribing to pitchfork's opinions!
the review negates itself in the first paragraph: "This is not the new Daft Punk album. It's a score for a Disney franchise film... And while we knew this was going to be a score since it was first reported nearly two years ago, it's tough to shake the gloom of blown expectations... The French duo's current move is almost undeniably disappointing, but it's also not a surprise."
their current move IS TO WRITE A SOUNDTRACK. the only expectations blown are those of reviewers who were hoping for a dance album- something DP never set out to make. it's like saying the latest dylan album lacks a bangin' club hit or the new kanye album fails on the country charts. evaluate something according to goals it never set out to meet, and of course you'll get disappointment - and a useless evaluation.
" Naturally, the music synchs a hell of a lot better when you're watching the stunning images it was made to accompany." really? ya think?
"Even so, it hems frustratingly close to the sweeping classical film music style..." - again, ai iz shokt. a soundtrack that sounds like a soundtrack.
this album isn't the pinnacle of their career. they were asked to do a soundtrack, and they made a good one (even PF agrees on this). maybe they're victims of their own success: people now want to deny them the right to take a side-trip and do something non-dancey. how enlightened.
on the upside maybe this horrible, disappointing album will make the bandwagoners jump ship. makes sense, LCDSS is on the outs too.

Scoring a movie is not making a new album.
Look at Idlewild. Boom.

and new music is new music whether it's a soundtrack or not. atleast i think it is.

Man, sweetcell coming to Daft Punk's defense! Whew, based on that post, you'd think Pitchfork gave his mom a 5.5 ;D

Discovery: 6.4

just watched a bunch of trailers and stuff for the new film. damn! and here i hate "remakes/sequels" that should never be made. the upcoming "prequel" film for the wizard of oz is a prime example. i have yet to hear the soundtrack as a soundtrack, but the music i heard in the trailers was pretty awesome . . . but then again i love stuff like elfman's batman soundtracks. i will buy it if the film is as awesome as it seems.
and is it daft punk, as in the sound of daffy in duck . . . or is it daft punk, as in "you're daft for not taking sweetcell's love of the band seriously"?
and i hope we are still friendly sweetcell. you know the power of cats and bacon controls our minds like some online borg from the delta quadrant.

If anyone is interested in hearing the remix we did for Daft Punk's track "Derezzed"
