Title: The Primavera on WFMU thread
Post by: azaghal1981 on May 28, 2009, 04:47:26 pm
Spectrum on now, Magik Markers up next.

This Spectrum set is already sounding better than that boring Black Cat set.

Sonic Boom needs to sit in on the Spiritualized set (not holding breath).

I really, really, really hope there's a Spiritualized bootleg of this show.

FMU will be broadcasting/archiving it so we'll have at least that.

I'd rather have flac but I'll take what I can get.

Speaking of which, on a semi-related note, I'd totally throw NPR some donation money in return for pre-stream flac recordings from their concert archive.

Anything sounds better in Barcelona than in DC. Even Eurodisco.

I'm way too lazy to look...link?  I'd love to check out that Jesus Lizard set.  I don't think any reunion has me more psyched.

No, it's just that he had a full band last night that played a bunch of spacemen 3 covers whereas when he played here, it was this aimless synththing.

-1 indie-cred-point for me... i've only just figured out what this thread was about.  i had no idea WFMU were streaming primavera!  sad thing is, i listen to the station all the time here in NJ. i assumed that azag was talking about some UMD station.

will they be streaming more of the festival?

link to archive?

Yeah.

3-7 and 8-11 PM today and 3PM-12 AM tomorrow.

Haven't looked for an archive link yet. Not sure if anything has been uploaded.

http://wfmu.org/audiostream.shtml (the "Stereo Broadband 128k MP3 Stream" sounds best, IMO, although i don't have realaudio installed on this machine so can't evaluate that.  RA tends to add a little distortion, so i doubt it's better)

azag, did they specifically mention that they'll be archiving their primavera coverage?  sometimes websites can carry the live stream but are prohibited from making it available after the fact.

if you're listening this afternoon, do post updates on who's on!

They did say they'd be archiving (pending bands' permission).

Wow, so did they capture that Wavves disaster at Primavera last night?!

I bet this news made Matt Horseshit's day.

Nathan Williams continues to reveal himself for the worthless hack piece of shit toolbag that he is.

last half of dead meadows was decent.  got to hear it in the car on my drive home.

ponytail were only a tad less annoying than the last time i heard them at the black cat, but they're still too much to endure. i gave them 25 minutes... had to turn the dial, i had run out fo hair to pull out.  it's as if they're attempting to play an elaborate joke on the indie crowd: how close to mentally deficient can we sound without people calling our bluff?  the guitar work definitely improved, but their "singer" still bugs like no one else i've come across.  it's not just the noises she makes - when she tried to give her voice a pitch, it's consistently flat.  she hurts my ears.  bitch.

Totally agree re: Ponytail. I wonder if Joe caught them. He loves them. :)

Sunn 0))) are on next.

Somehow, I don't think that will translate well on the interwebs.

here's FMU's page (http://wfmu.org/playlists/SZ) with 19 archived/streaming sets. free music archive (http://freemusicarchive.org/) also has some downloads available, just do a search for primavera. that free music archive site is pretty fantastic.

Good looks. Thanks.

There's a good amount of stuff in lossless formats on dimeadozen.org, too including some pro-shot dvd's (Vaselines and at least one other that I can't think of off the top of my head).

wavves is total bullshit. he really pulled the wool over many an eye.

azaghal, i opened for spectrum in april at kung fu necktie (with the curanderos: me with the gibbons bros and aaron igler from bardo pond). it was the best sonic boom set i've seen, because he had a tight band and they played "revolution" and "suicide", among a few other choice spacemen gems. sonic's a funny guy, we stayed up all night testing various pharmaceuticals and arguing about hawkwind and improv sets.

Yeah, the Primavera set sounds incredibly tight and I'm pretty sure it included those covers. The new War Sucks EP is really nice, too.
