Fan Death Records will be DJing between bands during the Pre / Post Sonic Youth party. Locrian is a DNA TEST FEST alumni so you know its gonna be a rager. We'll be spinning everything from noise to prank phone calls. Drink some beers, listen to some good music, and nerd over that stupid masonna record you bought before going to watch some people in their 50s play grunge anthems.
Velvet Lounge
915 U Street NW
Washington, DC
Doors 7:30pm/Show 9pm/21+
$8/$5 w/ SY ticket stub!
Kohoutek
Locrian (psych/noise from Chicago)
Our Brother the Native (Fat Cat)
Religious Girls
Teething Veils

The new Locrian album is really nice.
That'll be a late night.
It's been a while since I left Velvet after 2.
-
sweet, i set up this show and had no idea there were going to be djs downstairs. not that i have a problem with it!
the idea is to have a long, late show, so people can either check it out before SY starts, or after they finish. kohoutek will probably play around 12:30. the heavy psych-drone will be in full effect that night!
-
yeah this is gonna be rad, we got some surprises planed
locrian is killer
-
u guys r gonna need an afterparty becuz sonic youth show will be a dud. lol
-
hopfully some of those kids that are really into dinosaur jr and nirvana will swing by. I'm all for it
-
I like Rather Ripped and most of The Eternal but Dino Jr.'s output has destroyed SY's over the last few years.
And Nirvana is the most overrated bandin the history of forever.
-
i bet you nkotb is googling "dinosaur jr." as we speak. first it was jesus lizard...

I do like the untouched Steve Albini mix. But still.

while i actually agree with the above, this still might win for "Most Perfect Indie Elitist Statement" ever.
-
just in general? i never considering nirvana an "indie band"
wtf is indie anyways? wtf is indie rock i really dont get it

yeah, just in general. like, if you were at a bar and heard someone say, "well, i like the untouched steve albini mix" you'd be all, that's the perfect indie elitist statement.
indie rock is a genre of music that emerged in the early 21st century out of williamsburg, brooklyn.
-
so shitty bands like pavement are also from brooklyn?

yes, that is correct. don't believe what you read elsewhere. "stockton, california"?? i mean, that doesn't even SOUND like a real town.

Good for them, but...
"Ringing up their professional contacts... "
"To encourage his development, his parents built him a studio at their home in the Malibu hills..."
"...arranged for their son to continue his drumming lessons during their summers in Italy and while on location for movie shoots..."
?They hired a manager, hired another guy for recording, had band rooms, recording rooms. "
"The band, whose two other members... also have parents in the music industry, was signed to Geffen Records in 2004." (when the singer was about 17)
followed by:
"I like the D.I.Y. aspect of this."
is pretty classic.

geologist of animal collective will be DJing with us...so come early or whatever

Cool. Maybe I can tell him/bitch to him that AC need to go back to the noisier freakouts and retire that set of songs that has gotten boring over the last two years. Or they could even just do more (meaning entire live sets) of the vocal improv/electronic noise stuff they usually do between songs. Those little segments were the highlight of the last 930 show, IMO.
