Can you do this before the day of the show? In case you are giving them to someone else?

Generally speaking, yes.   Occasionally there are shows where there is not permitted and if the tickets were purchased through a fan club site or presale, those tickets will only be available an hour before doors on the day of the show.

Awesome thanks. So Sonic youth tickets purchased through ticketmaster should be ok to pick up?

Yes.  Just be sure to bring your id and confirmation number.
