that's not the worse list in the world... i disagree with much of it, but it's defensible.  uh, i hate not hating pitchfork.

wow.wow.wow.

i actually think this is pretty spot on.

b.o.b has always been my fav outkast song and i don't think it is possible to get sick of it, but seriously, this is amazingly awesome to me. i'm pretty much in shock about it being no. 1.

how can it be that shocking if it was #1 on pitchfork's mid-decade list?

because they are the fairly fickle people...i imagined it would still be in the top 5 at least, but not still 1 again.

The only two that I have a hard time with in the top ten are "Maps" and "My Girls."  The rest seem pretty defensible to me.

Maps is indeed a good song...pfork picked the singles I guess.

If I had to choose a YYYs song, it would be "Black Tongue" ...

--------------
Hot
AWWW

You can keep your black tongue
Well i found at the mortuary
you know im gonna want some want some
we'll hide in the backroom gonna have a packed suit
with this you will regret
just let it be your yeah yeah yeah

sunny kept his ring on
red tape so ordinary
love I feel like it was gone gone gone
lets do this like a prison break,
I wanna see you squeal and shake.

Boy you just a stupid bitch
and girl you just a no good dick

Hot

were gonna keep it in the family
yeah well even though were on the run
you know you want some want some
well hide in the backroom gonna have a packed suit
with this you will regret
just let it be your yeah yeah yeah

Boy you just a stupid bitch
and girl you just a no good dick

I didn't understand Crazy In Love. Or My Girls.

And any top 10 list without Chocolate Rain discredits itself.

Purple Bottle and Winter's Love are leagues better than My Girls.

Winter's Love is my favorite AC track, as I think we've discussed before.

I also didn't understand how Such Great Heights was so low on the list. I thought that'd be a top 20 track for certain.

I'm surprised Bros isn't in the top 20.

There is no serious list if "...Baby One More Time" is not on it.

No "Sk8er Boi"?  No "Since You Been Gone?"

Pfft.  You guys missed the 2000's....they were a lot of fun!

Since You Been Gone was there, kind of high too, wasn't it?
Was Toxic on there? It wasn't high and I always thought that was agreed-upon Best Britney Jam
God I hate LCD SS. Losing My Edge is in the top 20? Jesus Christ.
BOB is a good song but the best song of the last 10 years? Nah. I figured they'd go for some kind of reprazent track like Hey Ya.
Get Ur Freak On could've even been higher.
Crazy In Love is a great song, I have no problem with where it ended up.
Maps placing so high was surprising. I have really no other thoughts other than that.
There really is no song they could've put at #1 that wouldn't have sparked outrage.
Here are some leaves out I found outside somewhere

some songs that I was really happy to see in the top 20:

The Walkmen: "The Rat"  -- I played the hell out of this song 5 years ago.  Actually got sick of it for a while.

Radiohead: "Idioteque" -- I listened to this about once a day in college when it was on pretty much every mix CD I made.

MIA: "Paper Planes" -- yes please.

LCD Soundsystem:  "All My Friends" -- what a great fucking song.  Deserves every accolade.  Franz Ferdinand couldn't pull it off, but some rock band will do a great cover of it one day.

John Cale did a cover on the same single as Franz Ferdinand. I really really like Cale's version, but then again Cale is one of my favorite artists.

Didn't Baby One More Time come out in the late 90's?

Interesting. That being said, if I had no knowledge of any other music in the 2000's, I would say "wow, what a crappy decade of music".  I realize they had to gravitate towards singles and such, but I am not surprised by some of the mediocre selections. It looks like a list of what Pitchfork would pick. Of COURSE the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Radiohead, Animal Collective and Arcade Fire would be included in the top 10. Now if Magnet (the magazine) put out a list, I think it would probably be more suited towards my tastes.

So that being said, if I had to pick my top 10 songs of the decade, it would gravitate towards the stuff that I never, ever get sick of:

Queens of the Stone Age -- In the Fade
Elliott Smith -- Everything Reminds Me of Her
Death Cab For Cutie -- Transatlanticism
Yo La Tengo -- Our Way To Fall
Belle & Sebastian -- Jonathan David
Interpol -- Leif Erikson
Fischerspooner -- Emerge
Sleater-Kinney -- One Beat
Eagles of Death Metal -- Speaking in Tongues
PJ Harvey -- A Place Called Home

Of all those songs Idioteque is the only one I can hum in my head.  The rest I may have heard but didn't even know it.

weird, since idioteque is arguably the least hum-mable :)

wait, you can't recall the melody to DP's "one more time"?!?
