Have a ticket and almost surely will use it...

Not too revved up about the lineup...

i'll be there +1

Who in me  ;D

is that a question?  or an offer?  :o

Have a ticket and almost surely will use it...

Not too revved up about the lineup...

there are a few acts that i'm excited about, but it's definitely not the festival's best line-up (but i'm not their target audience this year, apparently).

I guess I'm in... If my tickets ever arrive?  Pretty much just going to see Weezer although they haven't put out a good album since Pinkerton!  Would like to see Public Enemy too - Wish there were other bands to get excited about :(

So Ive got 2 tickets and I was planning on driving, but realized it might be a total pain (im coming from nyc). does anyone know of a good way to get down using public transportation? Ive looked into megabus and all the others, but it seems most let you off in random places in B'more.

Suggestions.... feel free to email me on here.

i'll be there.....will probably roll out early though, no desire to see blink 182 or weezer.

regarding public transport....using public transport to get to merriweather would be way more of a pain in the ass than driving

I'm in with a group of 10 or so in tow...  Def should make a plan for 932 -- that was great fun at Curiosa.  I'd never complain over a free show, but I wish the schedule was seeing the light of day earlier than the Friday before.  This is making it very difficult to arrange transportation.  I'll check out before Blink 182, be there before Hold Steady goes on early in the day.

i'm looking forward to going to a festival with no big expectations and few must-sees.  i plan on walking around a lot, taking in the atmosphere and hanging with friends.  for once the info booths and vendors might get more than a once-over.

I'm going too, but bummed I won't be getting there til about 4pm, due to an event the in-laws have scheduled on the same afternoon (without bothering to consult). So guess I'll miss St Vincent. Mainly going to see the Weeze, though, so I'll get to see them I expect. And Hold Steady and Girl Talk.

The smaller stages at Lolla role over in 30 minutes. And just cause a band gets an 1:15 doesn't mean they'll play for that long.

comments from weezer's 874983475th bassist

"I have fun watching people have a good time listening to ["Beverly Hills"] and be totally confused by something off "Pinkerton," Shriner said. "But I'm just as happy when I see all the "Pinkerton" fans light up and the "Beverly Hills" fans scratch their heads. That's fine. I think we're going to mix it up even more."

Any clue how parking is going to work on Sunday?  I was there tonight and noticed the "West Stage" is in the big outer parking lot that borders Broken Land Parkway before Little Patuxent.

The FAQ says:
Are parking spots sold out?
No, on-site parking is not sold out.  You can purchase on-site parking tickets.

Where does one purchase parking, is it day of, and if so how much.  I still dont see how they will fit this many people, especially with one of the grass lots completely unavailable.

Not exactly. A batch of them will be for sale tomorrow morning, but I don't think Will Call is an option which means I would have to pick them up that very day I guess? It's something weird like that.

932 is a bar that's on the right side of the pavallion when you're facing the stage.  it'll be on your left if you're walking up the hill, away from the stage.

click here for map (http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=112287669953888073397.0004723fdfde708cb5f4f&t=h&ll=39.209649,-76.862068&spn=0.002191,0.004812&z=18).  the arial photo is old so there are more buildings & whatnot in MPP, but the blue marker is more or less where the 932 is (might be a little below the marker, on the other side of those trees... but you get the general idea).

I just wanna throw a bit of info out there.  Perhaps cause i gave out bad info earlier. I originally thought that the Dance Tent was going to be on the parking lot near the administration house, on the opposite side of the lawn from 932 (where it was for Area one) , thats not the case.  Apparently there is no tent at all.  it is a stage, located in the woods behind the lawn (Symphony Woods) and its a small area (looks to hold about 2000 people) and is already a mud pit.

Hopefully i'm mistaken, but theres a stage with a podium out there and no tent to be seen.  kind of a bummer.  I dont understand why events even have "dance tents" if they are put on ground that is not suitable for dancing.  waste of time if you ask me, just have some more bands then.  very disappointed, cause i'm not rolling around in the mud no matter HOW much I wanna see Tong.

Finally landed some tickets...i'll be sticking around the Hold Steady/National stage all day I think.  Anywhere know exactly where that stage will be?  The only time i've been to the venue was for Phish recently, so i wandered the lots a good bit.

Where's parking going to be at?

It's the same exit as the Merriweather, just drive past the venue and the mall will be on your right.

I think it's the Columbia mall
Title: Re: VFEST Roll Call
Post by: killsaly on August 29, 2009, 02:04:35 pm
The road it is off of is 175/Little Patuxent Parkway.  There is an exit for it on 95.  The mall is definitely the way to go.  I did the on site parking once, and will never do it again.  It took about an hour to park, and longer than that to leave.  But that was 2003, maybe they have fixed things.  The mall on the other hand, is in and out.
Title: Re: VFEST Roll Call
Post by: Christine Moritz on August 29, 2009, 05:10:39 pm
Hmm, maybe I will try doing the mall-parking thing.

I've been to Merriweather only once before (for Thievery et al. a year (IIRC) ago) and had no problems with the parking... but I am dismayed at the idea of having to pay for parking.

Plus I had the idea from the Virgin FreeFest site (under "Info, Getting There, Car" that you couldn't even park on-site unless you had "four or more" people in your car:

If you have 4 or more people in your vehicle, you can park in the Main Parking Lot.

[. . .]

Off-Site Parking
There will be plenty of it. You will be directed once you get to Brokenland Parkway or South Entrance Road.  Shuttle busses will take those in the further-away lots.

Title: Re: VFEST Roll Call
Post by: blinkboy on August 29, 2009, 05:36:14 pm
the mall is in and out for most merriweather shows, but people, remember that

a) there will two times the amount of people than a normal merriweather show.

b) they wont have the west lot for overflow parking due to the stage being there.

the mall, is gonna SUCK to park at.  now, i figure the cops will be trying to get people to park elsewhere so if you are determined to get into the mall, it may be ok, if most ppl are dumb enough to park where the cops ask them to.

I just went on a recon mission to the mall..... there are metal barrier all around the mall... they are currently in the grass at all the entrances, no clue what they are going to do with them but they may be trying to keep people out.

weird what about for people who actually want to go to the mall.  Usually I park I think in that jcpenny or sears parking lot but more towards the exit.  I think it will be fine tomorrow but who knows I sure as hell don't want to pay for parking  ;D

I agree, not sure how they decide who is a mall customer and who is looking to park for merriweather.... at least in mass.  We have been asked by mall security if we were going to a show before and just walk toward sears until they were gone

I am sure it will all be fine

my friends tickets never arrived in the mail.....ticketmaster said they could convert the tickets to 'print at home' but they would have to pay the service charge to print at home.  real nice ticketmaster, real nice.

sucks about the mall parking looking off limits....I only have 3 people in my car, i'm still going to try the mall I guess.

when i picked up my ticket at merriweather, they had signs up saying that Little Patuxent Pky would be closed Sunday.  Traffic is going to suck big time.

Have to admit I totally disregarded the parking issue.  My group of 4 had planned to come in 2 cars but that looks to be a bit of a headache.  I'd have to think parking at the mall will be a tad more difficult today than a typical show at MPP.

The thought of taking a shuttle back to the car after the show sounds awful but the bus-to-metro arrangement they had at Pimlico worked really well.

Probably a bit late but I just came from Mall area and all the lots surrounding the mall but not at the mall proper are marked for concert parking.  There are some professional buildings between the mall and merriweather with little garages that are open.  Appears to be no forcing of people anywhere at the moment.
