Any chance of a sellout?
-
would not miss this for anything. i think the baltimore show probably prevents this from selling out.
-
I can't imagine there won't be a healthy turnout. The reissues seem to have sold out of most record stores in the area, Crooked Beat hasn't had any for weeks. Last time I saw them was in 1993 at the old 9:30 Club when Mr. Yow spent nearly the entire show crowd-surfing.
-
Wouldn't miss this for anything either.
I'll be pleasantly surprised if it sells out.
Don't sleep on Noveller. Although, I'm not sure how well she'll go over with this crowd.

I'll be there acting like I'm 16 again.
-
leaving soon... 8)
-
They were fucking great! Looking forward to the show tomorrow.
-
Holy crap this fucking ruled hard. They nailed every song. David Yow is officially in my top 5 greatest/craziest/best frontmen I've ever seen live with Henry Rollins, Iggy, Lux Interior, and Zach de la rocha.
Yow: So I got a joke for you guys. A woman at a restaurant ordered some soup and rice but told the waitress she'll just have the soup. The waitress brought the rice. ;D
I actually kinda liked the opening act Noveller.
-
Fantastic show although the crowd was lame. And this is coming from the most stand-right-there-do-nothing concertgoer ever.
-
did yow pull out his ballsack?
-
Best. Live. Band. Ever.
-
Great show, but Yow was definitely a bit restrained compared to the old days. You can tell he has aged some. We didn't get any ballsac, but a little penis action in the encores.
-
Dude's 50! I hope I can still act like that when I'm his age. On second thought, no I don't :)
For all of Yow's zaniest, I still find Sims the most off-putting guy on stage. It's easy to just focus on Yow's antics, but jesus christ, Sims actually makes me afraid. He looks like he wants to murder someone, and that horrifying glare of his hasn't lost a bit over the years. Shiver.
Also, nothing cracked me up more than seeing him get carried to the very back of the club, then all the way forward with a Hershey bar in his hand. And he didn't miss a word.

I was impressed by how respectful the crowd was to Yow when he was surfing. I've seen all his clothes get ripped off of him before when he was out in the crowd and him ending up crowd surfing naked. People were very nice to him last night.
Definitely agree about Sims. Very disturbing. You can completely understand how he used to play in a band called Rapeman.
Best. Reunion. Ever. Pavement can suck it.

I was always amazed at Sims as he was doing some interesting bass lines without once looking down. I always felt he was the "cop" on stage, staring down the audience, kicking people off stage, and holding down the fort as Yow went crazy. Great show, even had a bloke get thrown out early on. The band still has it and puts a lot of bands half their age to shame.
-
I was impressed with Yow's throwing arm. I'm sure that Hershey bar nearly put some guys eye out.
-
I LOVED this show. They're playing in Chicago when I'm there, sold out but I'm thinking I will have to try to go and compare. Something tells me that Chicago will be TOTAL insanity.
-
Agreed. People were freaking the fuck out at Pitchfork. It was sheer madness. Of course, I was sore for 3 days afterwards...but it was worth it!

he just had to throw the hershey's bar at a fat kid. nearly broke his glasses too.
great show. the crowd was a more reserved than the newyork one, but by dc standards, it was an impressive showing. plus they sounded alot better.
anyone else notice the mini steve albini in the pit?

chicago crowds \m/ lost half my toenail during sonic youth's daydream nation set at pitchfork festival 07. pure insanity.

I'll be in Chicago too.

Best. Live. Band. Ever.
You've obviously never seen Coldplay.
-
Sorry as hell that I missed this. How many people came out for this? I hoped it was going to sell out - the band deserves that - but I gather it did not.
-
Not even close. Maybe 400 people? The stage was pushed up so that the floor was at its smallest.
-
Best. Live. Band. Ever.
you obviously never saw the dead kennedys, black flag, minor threat or fugazi during their best time period.
-
400 people sounds about right. I was kinda disappointed there wasn't a bigger turnout. But I'm guessing the Sonar show tonight had something to do with that.

So you're saying its a natural Baltimore show and the 930 Club was planning on being propped up by out-of-town'ers filling their venue?
-
Damn, 400 is a bummer. I really hope they return.
Between this and MBV and a few others I will remember 2009 more for the shows I didn't go to than the ones I did attend.
-
Ouch.
This and MBV are both in my top 5 of the year.
-
Sims is hotness. Damn.
We didn't get two encores like Philly, but it was still phenomenal.....~~~~~

AGREED. Insane hotness. Woof.
-
bearman, did your panties melt?
(sorry ya'll for the gayness LOL!)

No problem at all. As a straight woman, I can relate when it comes to hot men. Not that I'd fight you over this one but I could have some fun comparing notes with you guys. ;) Besides, it's refreshing as about all we usually ever see on this board regarding hot people is about hot women. Obviously, that leaves us out when it comes to the enjoyment factor of appreciating such a post.
-
his bass was throbbing......violently...! :P
-
:o ;D
-
I think sims is amazing. and hot. he's like a pitbull on the bass.
baltimore show was complete insanity. I probably had a better time at the DC show (and loved the thunderstorm leaving) but they were definitely higher energy in baltimore. I was down front for both shows but had to give up after 7 or 8 songs in baltimore- i couldn't take the crush of people.
-
Goddamnit.
Knew I should've went.
Did David spend more time in the crowd?
-
I knew the Baltimore crowd would be more rowdier. Was there a double encore too?
-
i heard there were three encores + cock 'n balls.
-
I can't help but wonder what someone unfamiliar with this band would think upon opening/reading this thread.
-
more rowdier
Pardon me, but what finishing school did you attend?
-
I saw two encores. No peen. Sorry fellers. there was a barricade which i was thankful for- it gave me something to push back against the crush of the drunk/stoned/hirsute men of baltimore
I did get my hair tousled by Yow. The last time that happened to me was at a New Bomb Turks show in 1997
-
Ok, fine, but were there at least balls?!? Enquiring minds need to know!
(Jules, your finishing school quip almost made me spit up my sangiovese. You've been on a roll lately)
-
Blockbuster at DC Space in '91 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HHl-X9pr9Y)
Crowd was nowhere near as weak but Yow missed more lyrics here than he did all thursday night.
-
I'm guessing they played Wheelchair epidemic in the 2nd encore? They didn't play that one here.
-
They did play Wheelchair epidemic on thursday. I think it was the last song of the night.
-
(nevermind, post i was referring to has been deleted...)

You got it wrong:
"A woman at a restaurant orders the beef stew no rice so the waitress brought a bowl of rice".
Great shows, agree B-more was rowdier, tossing cups of water/whatever at the band, Yow looked to clock someone good with the mic in the front. Didn't make it to the soundboard at Sonar, not even close, I held him the last bit to the board at the 930. The band is still super tight.
