meh. first night of the tour and it showed. boring setlist.
-
did they play anything pre-69 love songs? i'm more of a fan of the '90-'95 magnetic fields.
-
I disagree. I loved the setlist as they really mixed it up this time. Glad that they didn't do "The Book of Love", "Papa Was a Rodeo" and "Yeah! Oh Yeah!" (three songs that they always play) and instead played some other cuts from 69 Love Songs.
snailhook, they played "100,000 Fireflies", "Fear of Trains", "You and Me and the Moon", and "All The Umbrellas in London". "Fear of Trains" was probably the biggest surprise of the night, though it was sung by Shirley.

They also played "Falling in Love With the Wolfboy" and three songs from records by The 6ths.

I counted 4 songs from The 6ths (Lindy Lou, Movies in My Head, Falling Out of Love, Nights Falls Like a Grand Piano).

Ah, you are correct. I forgot about "Movies in My Head"

Completely agree with Joe. Very good show. Really want to do at least one NYC one.

Looks like a great show, they did a good job of mixing it up from the last Lisner show. Presumably lots of folks were at both. Although, I think I'm glad I saw the last one versus this one, if only to hear Take Ecstacy With Me and All Dressed Up In Dreams.

they played a lot of early stuff, i think "all the umbrellas in london" was the highlight (is it possible to call one of the most depressing songs ever written a "highlight"?) ... "you and me and the moon" and "fear of trains" were also great ... "the nun's litany" is one of stephin's best songs, i love hearing it live with all the production crap from the album stripped away
i much preferred the setlist from the last lisner show .... they were also just kind of out of sync on a lot of songs, seemed like first show issues that will be ironed out
shirley was predictably fantastic, such a great voice and range, all of her songs really hit their mark

So this is on Dime.
Given that there was next to no amplification, it is a very distant sounding recording. Still sounds good with a little EQ boost, though.

man the opener for this show was godawful
