Post by: sweetcell on April 24, 2010, 09:25:45 pm
.. is currently being streamed on NPR?  One of the band members just said "hi to all the folks listening on NPR".

damn fun show.  xx met expectations, HC exceeded them.  place turned in to a hot, steamy dance party.

i completely missed that - too funny!  (in my defense it was really loud in there).

mix sounds way better on NPR, HC's multi-layered sound was a bit mushy at times.

No "Colours" or "Keep Fallin'"? Lame.

Set was too heavy on the latter two albums for my tastes.

Still think it would've been a fun time, though.

Joe mentions that he'll be DJing at Velvet at the end.

I thought Hot Chip was very good, XX was too. we were apparently standing in douche central for a while but moved to a much cooler spot.

I , too, would have liked to hear a bit more older stuff, but i expected a lot of new stuff.

the show was high on the douche-o-meter.  during the xx, we had a drunk girl and her date behind us who wouldn't shut up.  their conversation consisted mostly of them screaming at each other how great the show was.  when the missus turned around and asked her to pipe down, ms. drunk proceeded to explain how much she loves the xx, how many times she's seen them, and that if we liked the xx we really needed to check out mogwai 'cause they're totally on the same vibe, man.  the missus then asked "if you're such a big fan, why aren't you listening to them perform?".  that shut her up for about a minute before she started blah blah blah'ing again.  thankfully they left before hot chip.

the floor looked ridiculously packed, but up on the balconies we were relatively comfy.

i'm not particularly impressed with the new album (first half is decent, second half bores me) but it came across better than expected in a live setting.  i too would have preferred more of their older more energetic stuff but i came in expecting mostly new material so my expectations were tempered.  maybe that's why they were surpassed.

"The xx is like Mogwai" . . . I'd like some of what she had been drinking.

it had less to do with "what" and more to do with "how much".

Did anyone else see the people that had drawn big X's on their faces?  It was like being at some wierd alternate reality Fugazi show.

I saw the XX in Chicago recently and they were awesome. First time I had been really excited by a performance for a while. How long did they play for at 9.30?

Saw the xx at Sonar the night before and I thought they were great.  The girl, romy, did a dj later in the night which was also very good.

did anybody who saw hot chip also see them the last time they played the club?  i was sad i couldn't see them because of a widespread evening, but was just curious how it compared to the (fucking incredible) time that i did see them.

this saturday was my third time seeing HC at the 930.  i preferred this show to the previous one (i.e. the second time i saw them).  that second time was indeed a great show, too, but this last one was a tad better as I wasn't expecting as much and they over-delivered.

I love my boys, I swear I do...but wow. I miss "The Warning"...let's just say that.

Also, wow, they have some horrible fans.

Yeah, the last two albums do nothing for me with the exception of "Ready for the Floor."

Another friend of mine had those sentiments about the crowd; "knobby" was the word she used.

P.S. I would've tried harder to go if I knew you were going.

Made in the Dark and Whistle for Will are two epic songs that never get any live love from the band.

I feel the same way about Careful, Arrest Yourself, and So Glad to See You. Seriously. So good.
