Can anyone recommend a program for editing music files? For example, I want to chop the sound file from last night's show into two pieces so I can put it on CDs.

Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/)
I used it to do the same thing for the B&S show from a few months ago.

I'm partial to Cool Edit but it's been discontinued. If you can find it and an unlock code then you'd be set.
I've heard good things about Audacity but I've also heard that it's unstable. Since you're only splitting a file it would probably be okay but large files may make the app less stable.

Yes, I too fancy the Cool Edit. I use it for everything from mixing to editing to recording. It is the best. Have they really discontinued it?
If that's the case, try to find it somewhere anyway. It's really the shit.

Adobe bought CE a few years ago. They discontinued the basic version and renamed the pro "Audition." It was a really bad move; Cool Edit was already a very well established and respected name (perhaps a silly name but the app rocked). I almost never see Audition mentioned anywhere other than in posts like this. Adobe could have kept the basic version and just sold it like a non-pro version of Photoshop. Adobe should stick to static visuals and leave the sounds alone.

I agree. Except the new Photoshop sucks, too :(

You are obviously drunk. CS2 is a VAST improvement over CS; I wouldn't be able to do about 50% of my job working in CS.

i'm still using photoshop 6 :(
but actually I still like it

I am using CS, and I liked the previous photoshops much more than this one. And I am 400% sober :)

Now that explains it! I got the CS2 upgrade just recently, and it fixed every bullshit problem I had with CS. And the in-layer warping and editing has been mostly perfected, which was my biggest gripe about CS.
Sorry for assuming you were drinking; for me, that's when I do my best work :) [/b][/quote]

I like cdwave for cutting up/putting together files.
