So I went to the 930 Club tonight to see the Drive By Truckers. It was an hour after they started playing and I was a little wasted and I didn't have a ticket or anything, but I am the GGW, man. I let the door guys know that I was tight with thatguy, and that I have sparred online with shadrach and that I have lost vast sums of money to Seth Hurwitz in football betting - and they still wouldn't let me waltz in without a ticket. It's fascism, man. Fascsism I tell you. As a member of the online 930 community I am entitled to whatever I want when I want it. The sooner the hired hands realize that, the better. Bitches.

excellent 12,000th post.
fight the power, man. and don't forget to blame ticketfly for your lack of a free ticket.

Perfect that was post number 12,000 for you!
-
12000 posts! Has carpal tunnel set in yet?!

You should change your handle to The 930 Club Sux Man. Or t930csm. You've earned it.
-
Cheers, GGW. ;)
-
man I am so sorry
perhaps you should have told them you were James Ford
-
GGW,
Highly anticpitating putting your cash in my pocket this upcoming football season instead of Mr. Hurwitz's!
We all need another lunch gathering soon,if I can stay out of airports long enough to sit down for an hour.
Congrats on your new "SUPER POSTER" designation!
12k.....very impressive........
Kind regards, The Dr.

seth's ability to hold a grudge . . . is so twilight high school. i just watched the first film for the first time last night. wow. i'll give it a passing grade for effort, i guess. the writing was so bad, and i wanted vampire / wolf action throughout the film to say hey, "ok, its a movie for girls and lonely women, but give the guys some action so you can make more money." isn't that really the point of art nowadays?

Is this why The Mars Volta has only played DC once? They played the 9:30 back in 2003 and its was magical. Ever since then when they have toured it has been "Live Nation Presents" or something and they only played Baltimore (three times I might add) What the hell is going on?!?
-
That Mars Volta was one of my all-time favorite shows.

DBT was kinda eh on Friday, maybe i've just seen them too much and expect too perfect of a setlist
-
That's what i thought when i saw them earlier this year, and why i skipped this one.

If I had been there, I would have fixed all of this for you. Just call me The Wolf.
-
sounds more like a job for Whiskey Smackie.

See at least Seth cared enough to apologize ;)
This thread is awesome for a 12,000 post too btw!

Funny...I've never seen them before (I'm a late bloomer to the band, only getting into them around Decoration Day, but they always tour when I'm out of town), but I thought it was great. That's a real rock n roll band. If they're better than that, I'd be floored to see it.

For me, its a matter of setlist rather than execution.
Everything through the Dirty South was nearly perfect, especially SRO. After that, it's been hit and miss. So if they're playing too many of the misses at the expense of older material, well there you have it. Plus, DBT has their own "Heavy Metal Drummer" songs.
And anything that the chick sings means a pee break. Before she joined the band, no pee breaks.

very . . . interesting.

For me, the DBT show came alive when they played 4 songs in a row off of Decoration Day, then took requests, and then ended up playing songs usually reserved for the encore in the main set (Buttholeville, Zip City, Let There Be Rock).
I agree about the material since Dirty South being hit or miss, and hearing the new material live didn't change my opinion that it is sub-par for them.
-
Yep, agreed.
But I think that's also more my problem than theirs. Why would they want to play a greatest hits/oldies set every night?
Not hearing "18 wheels of love" kind of sucked though, that song live is just amazing.

They have been going downhill ever since Isbell left. I am very partial to Hood's songs, but the dynamic they had between Hood, Isbell and Stroker Ace was always great.
