Honestly, there is nothing within a 500 mile radius going on tonight that is worth missing this for.
Unless you're a giant hipster cunt like Joe and would rather see Xiu Xiu.
-
this is the hottest show of the year.
-
After missing Fennesz due to car trouble, I'm even more determined to see this.
I will be wearing clothes.
-
i heard fennesz played for 30 minutes?
-
In a perfect world, it would be.
this is the hottest show of the year.
The Fennesz set was very good but yes, it was short. IMO, the highlight of that night was Janel & Anthony with Arturas Bumsteinas.
-
i was being sarcastic.
-
I know.
And I was saying that in a perfect world, that wouldn't be sarcasm.
Enjoy your bullshit indie rock band that plays the area 10x a year.

I'm still undecided...I may not go out dude.
and merzbow is opening for xiu xiu in NYC...deal with it.
-
That's just wrong.
Almost as wrong as Pavement essentially opening for LCDSS.
-
Nah, pavement will play their full set, i don't see it that way. They are just playing before LCD.

Their full set this tour consists of 25-30 songs. They won't do that.
-
set time of 7:40 - 8:55 = 25-28 songs.

-
You're kidding. They will play no more than 15 in that length of time.
-
haha...!
Malkmus at Philly show: "so yeah, we're getting shafted in DC,....playing Virgin Fest ya know".
You're kidding. They will play no more than 15 in that length of time.

I don't blame him for being bitter.

Going and pretty excited. Last time I saw Merzbow was in 1995 at a winery in Portland, OR. The bottles were rattling loudly in all the wine racks around everyone.
-
He can't be too bitter. I mean, wouldn't the band, at some point, have to OK the tour schedule? He could've easily played a stand-alone show if he wanted...

So yeah, that was epic.
Not noisy at all except for maybe the encore. I didn't even need the earplugs for most of the main set.
Very blissed out and spacy.
Based on all the collaborations I've heard, Merzbow is great at showing restraint and not drowning out his collaborators.
They filmed it and made a multi-track audio recording. Hopefully it sees the light of day somehow.

That was very satisfying indeed. They started so tentatively I feared a bust but once going it was often sublime. Besides the obvious Fripp references, Pinhas' playing early on also reminded me of Vini Reilly. Never broke out the plugs. Hell, it could have been a Merzbow date night ;D. But I think the sound may have been cranked as the performance went on, as ears adjusted.
Blue Sausage Infant was pretty good, sometimes hypnotic. TL0741 needs to develop his performance. It was a meandering catalog of occasionally interesting sounds. He had a few good ideas but never developed them for more than a minute.

There were way more women there than I expected. A dude I was talking to referred to them as "merzbait." Easily the funniest thing I heard all night.

A friend of mine was tasked with giving Merzbow a ride back to his hotel. Wonder how that went.
