Title: MoogFest 2010
Post by: blipvurt on November 03, 2010, 11:19:35 am
Anyone else get down to NC for this?

I went all three nights. It was a great time. Very unique-feeling festival. Looking forward to what they do with it next year.

Here is my Night One write-up and pics:

Saw an ad for this and heard Big Boi from Outkast was there. Gonna try to make it next year if I'm able to. I'm already planning for SXSW and CMJ.

1. It was pricey
2. Lots of conflicts

Did you make it to the Omar Souleyman set?

I had to miss Omar's set. I was hoping to catch half of his set then move to the next thing I wanted to see, but the way the venues were laid out, I couldn't split it up like that. He played Orange Peel which was a bit removed from the other venues and would have taken too much relocating time.

Plus by Sunday, when he performed, I was a little DJ'd to death.
-----

Big Boi was tearing it up when I poked my head in during his set. Crowd loved it. Just not really my thing.

1. It was pricey

you consider $104 + fees for 3 days of music expensive?  it's way less than lolla, coachella, etc.  not on the same scale, i realize, but a damn good value at that price.

2. Lots of conflicts

that's going to be a problem at any big festival.  it's like saying "i'm not going, there are too many good acts performing" ;D

Joe's arguments rarely contain any sort of logical base.

It's just...Joe being Joe.

lol.  on that page the price is struck through - so the eight looks like a zero :)

$184 is less interesting, but i still think the ecclectic (but good) line-up made it worth it.

Consider paying a couple a hundred for either WMC and SXSW. That price is actually not too bad.

i'm pretty sure ticket prices were actually originally around 150. The price increased as festival weekend came closer.

great series of reviews and pix, blip.  well done.  if they do this again next year i'm definitely going.

i forgot that younger brother were performing.  that alone almost got me on a plane.  glad you stuck around to listen (and then write about it).  a little dissappointing that they didn't drag their light show with them 'cause it's pretty impressive when they do.  one small dorky nit-pick - you wrote:

Especially Shpongle who often came out from behind his table to play guitar.

posford is only half of shpongle, raja ram being the other half.  methinks it's technically incorrect to equate posford = shpongle, even if it's the only name people might recognize.  he releases his solo stuff as hallucinogen - genre-defining music but unless you're in to psychedelic trance/goa you've probably never heard the name :)

Sweetcell - thanks for the clarification. He billed himself as Shponlge for his earlier DJ set so I went with that. Fixed.

Glad you enjoyed the posts.

lol, that's simon setting himself up for such confusion.  billing himself as shpongle for the DJ set was more an indication of what he was going to spin - as opposed to a hallucinogen set, or a younger brother set, etc.  he tends to not cross lines when he DJs, thus one knows what (generally) to expect when he's behind the decks.

this is bound to happen to him, given how many hats he wears...

sounds like i'd better start planning, since moogfest 2011 is apparently on the books.  for example, it's mentioned on their contest page (http://moogfest.com/2010/news/filtatron-contest-extended/).

fyi - younger brother, simon posford, and the label (twisted) all linked to your write-up from their facebook pages.  for example, http://www.facebook.com/pages/Younger-Brother-Official/240811596365 (need to scroll about half-way down at this point)

Nah, I missed them while watching Devo with Octopus Project.

Jealous of FFF Fest dude. I want to get down there for that next year!
