The guilty pleasures thread made me think of this.
I'm curious what you boardees consider as your favorite band/artist? If you can't just do one, you can do your top 3. I think the results will be interesting.
My favorite artist of all time is John Cale.

did you ever listen to the john cale/lou reed "songs for drella" album. that, and twin peaks, can make me auto-ejaculate.

We should have a reveal/boarder photo thread.

We should have a reveal/boarder photo thread.
i might do that. only if everybody else does. that would be fun.
-
and my favourite band of all time . . . the ramones.

But no one wants to see the real faces of people on the internet!
And in regards to drella, it is a really good album. Too bad Lou Reed has to be a prick anytime he works with anyone else. (I'm a huge Lou Reed fan too).

As for my favorites, I'd have to say:
Favorite Band: The Minutemen
Favorite Record: Psychocandy
Favorite Song: She Bangs the Drums
-
Impossible for me to answer because my top 3 change with my moods/the weather.
Those that seem to appear the most consistently
Smiths/Morrissey
Bowie
James
Honorable mentions
Waterboys
Pogues/MacGowan
Squeeze
Clash
Mundy
I could actually add to this list all night so I'll stop there......
-
Good pick with Bowie. He is also one of my favorites. Too bad people ignore everything post Scary Monsters. His 90s and 2000s albums are quite good.
-
i saw bowie at patriot, which i guess was his last tour years back. and even though it was at patriot, i had great floor seats. he was one of those shows you never forget and glad you got to see him once.
-
The Grateful Dead
R.E.M.
Then it's like a 10-way tie for 3rd.
-
That is a really difficult question, but if I had to narrow it down to 3:
Neil Young
Tool
Richard Thompson
Those are probably the 3 artists that feel most like they have tapped into my soul.
-
tough question, as of now
Patti Smith
TOOL
Van Der Graaf Generator
-
Pearl Jam
-
Impossible to pick just one.. I have a list of stalwarts...of course Dylan is great but I tend to think of bands/artists that tend to come around and with whom I associate having a good time...I guess they mean the most to me personally:
Ween
GBV
Luna
Los Amigos Invisibles
Los Autenticos Decadentes
Andres Calamaro (never seen him though.. he avoids the US or can't get a VISA..not sure which)
Outer Body Llama
-
Nada Surf
David Bazan
Sea Wolf
Versus
The Beatles
-
guided by voices
-
Queens of the Stone Age.
All time favorites.
Never even though of this, but it's funny now that I think about it, my 2nd favorite might be Death From Above 1979. Led Zeppelin is also there. Might be my top 3. Hard for me to pick.
-
Pearl Jam
I met Mike McCready last weekend. Good dude.
-
Muse
-
Manic Street Preachers
-
If I had to pick one, it would be Cloud Cult.
-
I can't name one... so these are names that will always stick with me.
Nine Inch Nails
Joy Division
Prodigy
Radiohead
Underworld
Sigur Ros
The Cure
Bauhaus
Brian Jonestown Massacre
Gary Numan
-
John Fahey
Willie Neslon
Carter Family
Howlin' Wolf
Minor Threat
Ornette Coleman
Portishead
Tom Waits
Sam Cooke
T. Rex
Wow, zero crossover here.
-
BLACK SABBATH
-
Springsteen
Pink Floyd
Whoever's playing The Beatles
Ugh! I'm not sure if I want to associate with any of you ever again after reading your lists. I guess Hieronymus's is the "best" or most interesting but with a list like that and a name like "Hieronymus" he's got to be an insufferable prick.
Brian

Impossible!!!!
Just too damned many, too moody, too many different interests and I'm just too damned old and I do keep up with newer music. All that makes for a very broad history of music. Even if I could remember everything, my short list would still look more like a Top 50, at very least.
Somehow, Brian Eno would have to find his way way up towards the very top. Of course, that's after I allow him clemency for all of his work with U2.

Walkie, Brian has a nasty hangover and is making fun of his most hated musicians that many others love. It's the Brian Walalce way that we all know and 'love' so much. ;)
