So, the Fort Reno (http://www.fortreno.com/) summer concert schedule hasn't been released yet, but I have an idea brewing...I think we should pick one of the shows that would get a pretty good Forum turnout, and make it a forum party! A drawback is the onslaught of summer rainstorms, but we can always try. If it falls flat, who cares. I'll head to Guapos for margaritas, myself.
Keep your eyes peeled for the Reno schedule and think about a good showcase for Forumites.

Gads haven't been to Ft. Reno since Fugazi's last show there.
-
sounds like a partay...?
gross, i just used the word partay.
-
q and not u maybe?
-
Ted Leo would be an obvious choice if he plays this year
-
may i ask where fort reno is...also no, you can not see pictures of me in girls pants, those are personal and too sexy for you :D

My vote is for Ted Leo if he plays as well.
-
ay on Ted. According to the dischord site the Evens playing ft reno on june 30th, i'd be down for that and by "be down," i mean part-tay.

i would actually vote for a smaller show-- it's easier to have a get-together when the place isn't filled with people.
Sounds of Kaleidescope?
1905?
-
Oh, if we're going for a show no one else will be at, may I suggest Travis Morrison? No one in their right mind would show up for that.
-
Actually, the one thing I'd ask for is that it be a Thursday show, not a Monday show. Monday shows are impossible for me, even when they're free! ')

As the planner, idea person, etc., it'd be nice if I could make it. Regardless, I asked, I didn't tell! (I think chances are 50/50 it'll be a day I can't make it or a band I don't want to see....I don't care, just thought it was a cool idea, 'cuz Fort Reno's cool...)
Actually, the idea came when I was talking to someone about going to Fort Reno before I'd met anyone from the board, and I kept checking people out wondering, "I'll bet that's LuLu...LuLu would wear black tights in the summer, most likely....Hey, that's a pirate-like shirt, could that be Paige?." Rather than the surmising, why not just have an actual gathering?

I work every Thursday night.
-
what about like, weekend shows?
everybody can make those, right?
every time i meet people from message boards, i feel like a total internet geek.
"oh, Bags! It's me, you be betty!"
it's pretty (underscore) awkward...

How do you think I'm going to feel announcing to people I'm Julian, faux celeb-porn CONNOISSEUR?
-
well that's a silly visual.
the worst thing is, too, that people always assume my name is Betty.
i don't really know if your name is Julian or not, but my name is certainly not Betty.
it is a bit of a let down when i call somebody and they know multiple Alyssa's, and they ask "which Alyssa?" and i have to reply "BETTY" and they suddenly know who it is.

I could definitely go for a Dismemberment Plan reunion. A friend of mine from Beauty Pill said that Travis' new stuff is more Plan-esque
-
in general I am much more comfortable addressing forumites by their screen, as opposed to their 'real' names, even when I know their real names
lulu will always be lulu, kosmo will always be kosmo etc etc

I could go for that big-time as well. Never so glad to live in the area then I was for the two "last shows."
I hope his new stuff is better, because Travistan was one of the worst things I ever heard.

I always want to say hi to Kosmo when I see him at the club, but I feel weird because I don't know his real name, and even if I explained I was from the board, I doubt he'd know who I was or care if he did.
-
yeah, too bad i don't know what any of you look like...uhh...given the fact that i just started coming on here a few months ago.
that reminds me of this girl on myspace.
i could have sworn i saw her at a show earlier this year, and said "hey, are you my friend from myspace?" but it WASN'T HER...then i saw her (i was almost positive it was) at the rilo kiley show and my friends refused to let me go find out because of the previous experience. and guess what? it turned out to be her.
stupid computers.
-
wise move - he's a bit of an elitist prick :p

everytime i see someone get off a bike in front of the club, i automatically assume its chimbly sweep
i even forget if chimbly is a boy or girl. :'(
but yeah, if ted's there, so am i
-
Bags, you know I'll be there. And I second Guapos for margaritas as our backup plan! I wouldn't mind checking out The Hard Tomorrows if they play a show this year.

Sir HC is adamant that everyone refer to him as "sir."

ma'am works too...
Too many Chris's in this world. Remember the night at the club Chris doing lights, other Chris doing FOH, and third Chris on Monitors. Bummer was that it wasn't Chris managing. (and 3 of the 4 had M at the last initial).
-
we should have a thread where everyone posts their picture...someone start it because no one reads my topics...

It's true, but you get past that quickly once the first strange introduction occurs. Though Bags is a longtime nickname of mine, so I always answer to it....And Kosmo's just too awesome a handle to let go.
Hey, why not do two -- a Monday and a Thursday? No reason to limit ourselves. One early summer, one late....

I did the same...had been posting over the Spring and didn't know anyone. Hence the wondering if there were boardies at the Fort Reno shows! Once you meet one of us, we'll introduce you to the rest (though I'm making this sound like some big club or cool posse or cabal -- we just tend to see each other at shows and then have folks to hang out with if we're there alone or after...).
I was ADAMANT I would never meet anyone from here...seemed kinda creepy, and back in the day I took comments here personally. I got over that pretty quick! (Okay, not quick, but I got over it). Though I was only ever really offended by folks I still haven't met, and never will. :p
-
have i ever offended you bags?

No, you are offensive in such an odd and general way, I've never been offended....I find you, flawd, an enigma...

"Wow, i've never been called an enigma." says flawd in a little kid voice.
-
exciting.

i can vouch for that. i think you've only called me lily-even when i've run into you outside of the 930/black cat!
also, i'm with bags and vote for a thursday night show as mondays are out for me as well.

do you all work on saturdays??

Good thing I wasn't DJing :D
The other day someone thought my name was actually Kosmo, which is flattering in a way... As is being called by my screen name.

Just replaced it last night with a purpley blue one. (Helmets have a shelf life of 2 years. I just noticed that the sticker in the pink one said '02. Scary.)

I gotta take my daughter to Ft. Reno this summer....she'd have a blast. The Evens would probably be a good one for her to check out.
Just so you know when you meet her, her screen name is Spawn of Chaz.
-
really?

The Evens/Ted Leo were my daughters first gig last year - shes still talking about it and wants to go back this year!

that was most certainly me.

Considering the first show is just a week off, they certainly are taking their sweet time getting a schedule up.
Gist is Nayan's band from Revolutionary Records -- he's a guy everyone should support!

yo chimbley
2 years!!!!
that sounds like a bike shop/helmet manufacturer scam?
from helmets.org
"Most manufacturers now recommend that helmets be replaced after five years, but some of that may be just marketing. (Bell now recommends every three years, which seems to us too short. They base it partially on updating your helmet technology, but they have not been improving their helmets that much over three year periods, and we consider some of their helmets since the late 1990's to be a step backwards, so we would take that with a grain of salt.) Deterioration depends on usage, care, and abuse. But if you ride thousands of miles every year, five years may be a realistic estimate of helmet life. And helmets have actually been improving enough over time to make it a reasonable bet that you can find a better one than you did five years ago. It may fit better, look better, and in some cases may even be more protective."

But I really abuse mine-- it gets tossed in corners, thrown on floors, pounded against walls, covered in snow/salt/rain/hail/etc. Besides, it was 3 yrs old anyway.

Shows at Ft. Reno end pretty early. You could probably catch Tegan and Sara after Q and not U, but would miss the opening act.
-
which bands are worth checking out? i'll definitely be seeing q and not u and travis morrison...
they should have links to each band's site
-
hypothetically, that's a great idea.
too bad i don't have transportation :(

From Fort Reno's site (http://www.fortreno.com/about.html) :
"Fort Reno is located across the street from Woodrow Wilson High School and is 2 blocks from the Tenleytown-AU stop on Metro's Red Line."
Viva El Metro

And, possibly, you can find a ride! As of now, I plan to try to hit both shows and can take you over to the 9:30 Club with me (though it's not a definite yet).

calling people by their screen names in real life is insufferably geeky, especially when it continues beyond the first meeting. "So, I spoke to Merlin, and he says Megadeth Roolz and Lady Gwynevere broke up, and Arthur Dent has already asked her out even though he's still kinda seeing Vampyre Gyrl."
but I digress... y'all should be going to Ft. Reno every week... it's free, for chrissakes, it's outdoors, the setting is beautiful, and if the band turns out to suck, you can picnic on the far end of the park, or walk to Guapo's and down margaritas. And sometimes bands you've never heard of will suprise you and turn out to be good. It doesn't get more perfect!
-
whatever dude
