i saw last year's show and it made me remember why i don't listen to much LA positive "underground" rap anymore ... it was like a hip-hop boyz-2-men concert ... the big guy with the deep voice might as well have had a cane to complete the image
that said, i'm sure it'll be packed

you clearly don't have a clue when it comes to hip hop. j5 bring it back to the days of b-boys and turntables. they have 2 of the illest dj's on the scene. hip hop is supposed to be fun, and they do a good job at it.
clean the wax out, and respect.

HAH! while i'm not obsessed like some of my friends, i can assure you that "i have a clue" when it comes to hip-hop ... and i could show you plenty of people who "have a clue" about hip-hop who can't fucking stand J5

J5 and the whole positive-thinking e-nun-ci-ate LA scene (like dilated peoples, et al) just bore me right now, maybe i'll get back into it later, i dunno ... but it's a personal opinion, respek?

hoya writes for a paper, he knows all.
dont argue with him.
(i think Jurassic 5 is pretty good, but i dont really care for live hip-hop so much)

J5 aren't bad for backpack rap, but I'm gonna pass on the show.

i agree, it seems that the la ug hiphop fizzeled in the last year or so. the def jux cats, and rhymesayers, and all the other indie heads took control while dilated and j5 took breaks. either way i dont know. j5 is still ill, fun hip hop, talneted cats that demend respect. Ill be at the show for sure, and it seems like a lot wont.

Jurassic 5 is to Rap what Bloc Party and Franz Ferdinand is to Post Punk. figure it out, it's not a good thing.

im glad you said RAP and not hip hop...
casue you dont know what your talking about.

well, he makes a decent point that J5 harkens back to golden age 80s hip-hop much like bloc party/franz draws on 80s post-punk ... but i dont think it's a particularly strong analogy

I think too many of the post punk revival bands shamelessly ape the 80's bands. Many of the new bands I hear on the radio - I've actually mistaken them for older bands. J5 delivers in the same lyrical style that 80s rappers did, but musically, its much different. The guys on the turntables for J5 are extremely creative. They stand out from the predecessors and more importantly, stand out from the pile of horseshit that is popular rap music today.
