Yeah, I almost pulled the trigger and got tickets on either ebay or stubhub. Glad I didn't now, now I just need to find a place to stay ;D
tickets still available but all in the 300 sections as of 11:08 ;D
-
I've lost all respect for James Murphy.. he's nothing but a common scalper...and a hypocrite....its pretty documented by now what happened with the Madison Square Garden sales...
guess the brokers couldn't unload all the tickets on the secondary market.

wow, Terminal 5 isn't a bad venue after all (but this is experience from the floor). Sound isn't bad at all.
-
the sound is definitely good, i've never heard anyone complain about it. it's just that it has no soul... has all the character of a strip mall. it is very new york - bigger than life, towers up to the sky, huge VIP section, etc. i don't hate the venue (i wouldn't skip a show just because it's at T5), but i'm not in love with it either.
-
How was the show last night?
-
Not the best I've seen them but will still rank it in the top 3 out of the 6 times I've seen them. I think it would have been a better experience for me if I wasn't in front in the pit. I was in the pit last year in SF and don't remember a pit as rough as this and the crowd was more grown up. Show was 3 hours long, divided in three sets plus encores. The biggest surprise was probably Freak Out/Starry Eyes (from the 45:33 single) with a male choir who also helped out with 5 or 6 other songs. Wish I could go to the MSG show but I think the setlist will be the same.
-
I was also at the show last night. It was fantastic. Best show i have seen from them (which includes freefest, coachella 2010, the last 9:30 club show, and one of the T5 shows last may).
Crowd on the floor was a bit rough though.

This is why you have to elbow peoples faces off like some dancers in here do ;D
-
^^ I didn't elbow but I did push back....we were upfront on the rail so it was much easier to push back using my back while hand on rail... :)
-
I appreciate the information that the pit was a bit rough/unpleasant. I was going to go for that tonight, but now am thinking about the balcony railing instead.
-
Friends were there last night and said it was awesome up there. On the 3rd floor - dead center balcony. The floor is always rough for shows like this. Definitely avoiding it tonight. My friends and I will either be on the 2nd or 3rd floor on the rail.
Cheap drinks and access to the restrooms without having to push my way to the front. Total win!

Looks like Mr. P and I have a spare for the final show at MSG. In the 100s if there's an interested boardee.
Section 131, Row F to be exact. Annnnd, you don't even have to put up with us, we'll be in another section ;)
-
thats a good area someone on here better jump on it ;D
-
Show was absolutely amazing last night. Completely eclipsed the other three times I had seen them.
If anyone is going to the remaining T5 shows or has GA for MSG and wants to be up front, I highly recommend being on the opposite side of the stage as James Murphy (if you are looking at the stage, he is on the right, by the drum set).
I got there early last night and ended up on the rail between Nancy (who is center stage) and the guitarist. There was tons of shoving and crowd surfing (seriously) but it was all in front of James. I had plenty of room to dance, never dealt with crowd surfers, and got minorly pushed from behind once or twice. I saw several people who were on the rail more in front of James get pulled over the railing because they couldn't handle it.
I won't post any spoilers, but I think the setlist last night had some variation from the first night. Including one song that James said was the first time it had been played in 4 years.
-
you like the venue Mr. Whippy?
-
hmm wondering how early I need to show up for Saturday. I don't want to be too close and also don't want to be too far ;D
-

Compared to other similar NYC I've been to (Irving Plaza, Bowery Ballroom), yes I do like it. I don't really understand people's issues with it. I understand that it is somewhat characterless, but it is by far the most efficient and best run of the comparable venues I have been to in NYC, and I've been to T5 six times now, I think.
I like how they bring the people who arrive up to the rooftop deck with bathrooms and bar service. They were very good about controlling the line and making sure people didn't cut in it. Staff were generally curteous and helpful, for example handing out tons of free water bottles to people up front last night.
Also, the other thing I really like about T5 is that the sound is great, clear, and well mixed even from the very front. Most venues sound like crap from that close, but I've been on the rail at T5 many times now and the sound is always clear as a bell from there.

I don't know if this helps your planning at all, but I walked by T5 at 3PM yesterday and no one was there. I came back at 4 and was about the fifth person to show up, and ended up front row for the show.
-
i prefer the sound at Terminal 5 than at Webster Hall....ugh....and yes, the individual bathrooms up the rooftop deck are great. I also just learned that they serve empanadas in the third floor?
-
i suspect that people will be lining up *really* early on saturday.
the pit at MSG is pretty small, less than half a rink, so even if you're at the very back of it you'll still have a better view (and better sound) than 90% of the people there.

sounds awesome ;D

i know people who said they will be there around 10 am (they have GA seats)
-
Such a shame, really. What will you do when he "retires" and Pitchfork won't tell you what to post-ironically dance to?

i dance to springsteen and that cutie patootie girl from friends in that one video. then i get it done all groove style to floyd. yeah man . . . floyd.
-
At least there's something that gets people to dance, even if it is for a few more days....
-
Empanada mamas is currently not there. Not sure if its coming back. A friend said its seasonal. They have the vietnamese hotdog place now on the 2nd floor. Cant think of the name of it.
T5 one of the best venues here? I think (whoever said it) you had only been to like Irving Plaza and Bowery. Theres a lot of other venues out there, Id much rather go to. Granted at that size our choices are going down.
With that said - LCD SS was awesome Tuesday night. Upstairs we had plenty of room - and could drink a lot and get back to our spots with no problem. If T5 always had $4 drinks for a happy hour, thatd be a great change. And being able to see the entire stage with an awesome view was great. Tues night had drummer of TV on the Radio dancing and looked to be hooking up with some redhead, and Aziz Ansari (Parks & Rec). I forgot who else we spotted around us.
And Webster Hall has recently done quite a bit of renovation. Their sound is usually quite great around the soundbooth (at least since the renovations have been done). I do miss the floor feeling like it was going to collapse when everyone was jumping in unison. The feeling was unreal; and the first time I saw LCD SS there, that place felt like a tidal wave.

webster hall sux
and im not the only one who thinks that
-
wow! since you (and your friends?) said it, it must be official. feel free to keep going to T5! You must be the one always posting on BV saying how the sound at T5 is so great and its such an awesome venue! All the better - coming from someone who doesnt even live in NYC.
Hopefully you wont be up here for Beady Eye and all the other bands playing Webster Hall since it sux.

yes, i'll gladly go back to T5 if i have to...i don't mind, i'm not a spoiled concertgoer.

Is it true that all attendees of the MSG show are strongly encouraged to wear black, white or a combination of the two?

dunno about "strongly" but yes, LCDSS has asked that people dress in black and/or white.
for those who aren't making the trek: they will be filming the show & pitchfork will be streaming it live on saturday night (more (http://pitchfork.com/news/41857-pitchfork-to-stream-lcd-soundsystems-final-show-live-from-madison-square-garden/)). there has also been talk of a DVD/BR recording.
speaking of which: "You Were There: The Complete LCD Soundsystem"
http://pitchfork.com/features/articles/7947-you-were-there-the-complete-lcd-soundsystem/
good read, IMO, but obsessively fanboy'ish.

williamsburg called - they want their irony back.

I'm wearing black, but red boots...

Ok, finally in NY. Trying to get settled in at the hostel. I walked by MSG and I think I saw the guy who's name on here is ixb something like that. I'm pretty sure that was him. So Elvis Costello played with the Strokes last night. Lets hope LCD gets some huge guests ;D
-
^^ that's the guy on page 3....

yeah yeah, I think that was him. I almost went up and said are you on the 9:30 forums?, however that will reveal my identity. Too early for me to be standing in line ;D
-
Arcade Fire just sang backup on 'American Scum'. Whatever.
-
*North (blame it on Bass)
-
Awesome show last night. I expected some more guests though. I didn't realize it was Arcade Fire until the song was finished. Was it only those two members?? I got tons of video. The pit was chaos but pretty fun ;D I was too tired to do anything after the show so grabbed some pizza and went back to the hostel. Come to find out my key wouldn't work for my room. So I was locked out until morning. Guy said we are fully booked but there is a couch in the basement. "No worries there is no mice or roaches down there." I was thinking great, if he said that there must be a million down there. So my night of sleep involved hissing pipes and loud strange noises. Great, just great. But back to the show, it was fun times ;D
-
So did Pitchfork actually broadcast the show last night? I checked in, expecting to find a link on the homepage, and saw nothing.

It's frohawk.

It's frohawk.
Is it him or am I mistaken? ;D

great show last night, but i think overall i preferred their set at freefest. 3+ hours was a tad indulgent (and very impressive!).
Is it him or am I mistaken? ;D
that's him.

Show was insanely awesome. Their show at T5 was really great too - but this just killed it. Was great to see Arcade Fire on 'North American Scum'. We were way up high, but it was still a dance party up there. The view sucked but whatever. They played everything I had wanted. 45:33 seemed much better this time around. All in all - it was a great goodbye.
And we all spotted frohawk from above.
And we found a great philly cheesesteak place on 9th that we'll be going back to.
Awesome night!

What a fantastic time! We were near the soundboard. Everything sounded great. I wasn't going to take pictures, but did snap a few at the end, when the balloons were coming down. It was so wonderful to just look around and see everyone dancing. Great send off.
